Kenpom and Sagarin basically say the same thing as RPI, except they both have HBU slightly above Centenary.

Legislators trying to cut funding to higher education
FargoBison replied to dakotadan's topic in Community
It should be ...."Legislators vote increase in higher education funding by 4% but leave universities underfunded and students carrying a bigger burden." Some of this was nothing but a hit at NDSU lead by some legislators that have an axe to grind, but nothing that Skarphol does surprises me anymore. The man needs to go, his mission in life is to gut higher education. -
House Bill to Save the Sioux Passes 65 to 28.

House Bill to Save the Sioux Passes 65 to 28.

The game happened because UND was taken off the NCAA's list when the lawsuit was settled. Wisconsin and I think Minnesota have policies that say they won't play UND in non conference games for as long as the school is at odds with the NCAA over the nickname. http://host.madison.com/sports/college/basketball/men/article_015c650a-f296-11df-80f8-001cc4c03286.html -

Hockey would be affected if the Big 10 Hockey conference comes to fruition, UND could be blacklisted by Minnesota and Wisconsin if things aren't resolved with the NCAA. Other schools could also take similar stances. Personally I've always thought UND should keep the name but I don't think this is the way it should be done. -
Agreed. DUI should mean automatic suspension of half a season worth of games, I don't care if it is the first or second. That said a MIP isn't the end of the world as long as the player learns from their mistake. Definitely not worth of suspension if it is the first offense.

I know enough to say what is in bold is just not true. I won't say NDSU athletes conduct themselves any better than UND athletes but I've spent enough time in GF and know enough people to say with extreme confidence that most UND students aren't sitting in their dorms studying on Friday and Saturday nights. I don't think I've ever seen the Herald pump up a MIP like the Forum does. When Kristo got his MIP earlier this year it wasn't' quite the spectacle that Jensen's has been made into. Picture right up on the front page all day for everyone to see on the Forum. Don't think I saw that from the Herald or have ever seen it. Lately the Herald has been getting criticized for their coverage, there is a reason for that. Both papers maybe owned the same people but they don't have the same staff. Kolpack is just a reporter and he had a scoop and what Douple said gave him a newsworthy story. You may hate Douple, which is fine. But don't hate on Kolpack for doing his job and being an actual journalist. Most of the time I have no idea why some at BV whine about the media so much, Hammer was pretty bad(he is good on TV though) but I think anything short of wall-to-wall Bison talk won't be good enough for some at BV. Sadly most don't know how good NDSU has it, most FCS schools have to fight for 1/4 of the coverage NDSU gets.
-
It was epic, beyond epic but obviously it doesn't have to be epic to make the Forum. They'll run with just about anything these days.
-
This entire post is one giant crock of BS. The Forum reports basically everything it can, the Herald may as well call itself the UND Campus Press.
-
He probably doesn't want to piss off Douple because there is more to the story and he wants it to just go away.
-
I think reports like this is what Kolpack was talking about... http://www.grandforksherald.com/event/article/id/118748/ It wasn't really the Summit League, but it was always UND leadership and SBoHE board members saying the sooner the better. No need to be in denial Bin, I think Douple is telling the truth and he has no reason to just make this up. It doesn't exactly make him look any better.

Tell me how this fits together...

Two things before the oil boom ND wasn't running a deficit and wasn't in dire financial straights. Also not sure what federal money has to do with a state budget, or how you could even figure out that without the federal money the state would $1 billion in debt.
-
Disagree, if Hoeven and Conrad can work together it could get done. Anything in DC is going to need bipartisan support to get done. Hoeven isn't exactly your typical freshman senator either. I have bigger questions about Berg, especially since there is so much pressure on the house to cut spending.
-
Yeah, because Pomeroy was going to get a lot done in a Republican dominated house. You can't possibly believe that. Hoeven is on the senate appropriations and energy committees, two of the most powerful committees and he is a freshman senator. I don't think the chances are any worse than they were before, at least based on the people we have sent to DC.

It looks like Lucia has that figured out...looks like they will hit the road or at least the roads nearby.... http://www.startribune.com/sports/103185109.html?page=2&c=y

When the State B is in Bismarck it probably gets 10-12K more than the hockey tournament draws. The Super A might be closer. Basketball is probably the number one high school sport in ND, followed by football. I'd say football is number one though, it is popular on all levels in ND(high school, college, and pro(lots of Vikings/Packer fans).

NDSU's attendance will see a huge increase this year thanks to that game, Of course it doesn't help that every game besides UND was either against a non-DI or played while the students were on break. Our average is a bit over 3600 now and we still have our marquee games with Oakland and SDSU yet to be played. Nobody really knows what the status is exactly of the BSA, supposedly there is another huge donation coming but the SBoHE wants it all in the bank before shovels can hit the ground. I've heard as early as this spring or as late as next spring before it can start. NDSU's attendance records in the media guide does have two sets of records "actual counts only since 1990-91" and "All seasons since 1970-71." So I think you could say the school is admitting to some prior attendance inflation. It does say 8500 people showed up for a game in the early 80s, I was at the K-State game a few years ago and there was nowhere to sit or stand with 6110 people there. So yeah they definitely are flawed.
-
Considering the dump we play in and have very few decent non-conference games, our attendance is no shock. It will be nice to get rid of Centenary and SUU though since nobody cared about watching either of those teams come to Fargo.

When you have an OL that is bad at pass blocking and receivers that are below average you are in trouble. The Colts have good receivers, but when they had injuries Manning struggled just like Favre did. Losing Rice was huge, it just completely changed the offense. He was the one guy the team couldn't afford to lose. The secondary couldn't tackle outside of Winfield, I've never seen such terrible safeties. I think the best they can do is bring in Orton, draft Pouncey from Florida to help on the OL(could maybe even move down to get him) and go defensive back or LB in round 2. I'm not really a fan of the QBs in this draft outside of Luck, who should be long gone by the time the Vikes pick.
-
The Vikings also had a horrible secondary, a bad pass blocking OL(both Mckinnie and Loadholt are brutal), below average receivers and of course Chilly. Some of it was Favre but this team had a lot of issues. It all started with Rice not getting surgery, if he was back and healthy in week 1 everything changes.

They are peers, I got a little carried away with what I was trying to say. I do agree the Summit name isn't the best, would love to see something like the Grain Belt conference or Badlands conference.
