PSU ran for 465 yards against Montana St
-
I'm pretty sure they will always be a Top 10-20 team. This loss might put them in a precarious position though as far as having home field throughout the playoffs.

Bobcat defense is terrible. 28-14 PSU. 2 qtr
-
Not much defense being played in Portland right now. 21-14 PSU leads MSU at start of 2nd qtr. Game is on Root....

I'm not surprised. We were horrible last year. The results of the EuroTrip were nice and I hear a lot of hype about some of the additions, but until I see them play a few games, I'm not overly optimistic.

My point was that I simply didn't like the decision to throw that pass on 4th and 6 with a minute to play. Whether or not the OC told the QB that was to be his first option or whether it was Bartles' decision, I don't think any of us will ever know. My own personal opinion is that given the conservative nature of our OC, I don't think it's likely he orders up a home run ball in that situation. I don't think I'm throwing anyone under the bus. Bartles is very capable, but I don't like how that play unfolded, and he was a big part of it. In the long run it is probably not an issue if Studsrud doesn't throw a horrible pick to start the game and Santiago doesn't fumble it away for the 5th time in 6 games.

Honestly, I don't feel we have lost any games thus far due to QB play, and I don't think we've won any games thus far due to QB play. My preference is for Studsrud because I feel he is a great leader and is more dynamic and is a better athlete than Bartles or Mollberg. I think UND can excel with any of those three taking snaps, given the offense that Rudolph and Bubba seem to want to run. Studsrud needs to correct the fact that he "stares down" his receivers. But that last heave-ho throw that Bartles made toward Santiago to end the game was be-fuddling to me. And that is coming from a Junior that has 4 years invested into the program.

Maybe the web stream is so far behind that the athletic department hasn't heard the outcome of the game yet.............

Montana and MMontana St. could very well Chuck it around nearly as much as ISU did.

Well it was a frustrating loss to say the least. Turnovers on 3 of first 5 possessions is no recipe for success. Could not get any pressure on the QB the entire game, and that was going to be key to helping out the young and unproven secondary. After finally settling down in the 2nd and 3rd quarters and moving the ball successfully, I felt the sidelines sort of deflated when Studsrud went down. You could tell there was plenty of miscommunication when Bartles was in there. Something there really shouldn't be with Junior QB who has played a fair amount of football here. They had a nice drive on his first series, but after that it was 3 straight 3-and-out's. I'm not sure what I think was worse about the final offensive play. The fact that interference wasn't called or the fact that was the play call. Whether it was Bartles' or Rudolph's decision to throw that deep ball, I obviously don't know. But on 4th and 6 and the Bengal 46 with over a minute to play, there should have been several other options than basically a hail mary. That was a low percentage play.

Couldn't crack 10,000 for Potato Bowl, so I'd be surprised if we go over 10,000 for this game. Sad but true.

Jameer Jackson is another guy of Mussman's that was a very good player and it was unfortunate that he left. Not sure why, but he sat out all of last year and has just 9 catches this season for Mankato. He had over 100 receptions in his two seasons here. He would have been a major factor the last two years here.
-
The most important stat to me is win percentage, and Studsrud's winning percentage is .667.

I have to disagree there as far as the supporting cast goes. Mollberg (and Bartles) were definitely thrown into the fire way too early. But so was Studsrud, and he has handled that exponentially better. In fact I'd say the circumstances surrounding his ascension to the starting job were far more difficult, and he has performed far better. Studsrud has never had anybody named Hardin, Jackson, or Golladay to throw to either. I like the fact that this staff seems to be committed to one QB. Even Dale Lennon could never decide on a QB, and I think that hurt the team, even as great as his teams were. It was always Manke vs Belmore, or Bowenkamp vs Wilson. With Mussman it was Landry/Goska, or Hanson/Hendrickson, or Mollberg/Bartles. When you have two QBs, you really have no QB. The QB is supposed to be the leader of the team. When the coaching staff looks like they can't decide who should lead the team, the rest of the team doesn't really know who to follow.

The Bengals were giving up 217 rush yards per game BEFORE they got routed by Cal Poly yesterday. Poly, with their triple option, racked up 499 rush yards against ISU. I think that bodes well for North Dakota given how they have run it the last two weeks. However, ISU's pass heavy offense could be a challenge.

I like North Dakota in this game. But that really means nothing since I like North Dakota in every game.....................

I was disappointed with the attendance for Drake, considering it was the home opener and Potato Bowl combined, and UND was coming off its first ever FBS win. Too bad we can't replicate that awesome 2008 schedule whent the all time attendance record was set.

Thank you for the insight. The intro video is great, there is no problem with that. I still will question the decision not to have the lights off during the intro though. It seems they have done it for three years prior and has worked fine. In fact, I really thought the way they powered them back up during the National Anthem was great and actually added to that part of the event as well. It also seems to give plenty of time for them come back on. It may seem like a small thing, but UND/Alerus has really struggled over the past several years with the pregame intro for football. I thought they finally solved it two years ago when they picked Welcome to the Jungle as their run-out song with a dark building and a solid intro video. There is a huge regression in that area this year. I'm a middle aged guy that has been a season ticket holder for hockey for about 10 years now. I still get goosebumps every night when the REA goes dark and the pregame build up starts. I would imagine the average 20-something year old college student gets even more amped up during that. There is no reason this can't go on for football. There are few FCS venues that are as well equipped as the Alerus is to put on a high quality pregame display, yet for some reason, it is something that continues to be overlooked. I know I am being redundant, but UND would do well to pick an entrance song and stick with it for the long term. I was hoping they had done that with Welcome to the Jungle. I can't hear the song Thunderstruck come on the radio and not think of NDSU's pregame dog and pony show. I can't hear Enter Sandman come on the radio and not think of Virgina Tech's run-out. Many of us often point out that there are 3 problems with gameday atmosphere for UND football: the product on the field, tailgating, and the in-game production. Bubba seems to be doing his part to improve the area that he controls. It is now up to the Alerus and UND to do their part. And there is plenty they could easily do..............

Dale Lennon's Salukis took down #10 Liberty tonight.

I'm not implying that Studsrud doesn't have plenty of room to improve. Just pointing out that the team has been fairly successful with him under center. Statistics are fun but the most important statistic to me is that UND is 5-3 overall since he was thrown into the fire, and 3-1 so far on the season. No need to fix what isn't broken IMO. Injuries are unfortunate, but they are part of the game. QB controversies are also unfortunate, but with a 3-1 record so far, I don't think we have one. One of the MANY problems this program has had is that is has been "unsettled" at the QB position since Danny Freund graduated. IMO this program still has many areas of concern, but the quarterback play is far from the top of the list.

I would think it would be pretty tough to pull a starting QB that has won 5 of his last 6 starts.........

Big Sky Conference Commissioner Doug Fullerton Conversation
bincitysioux replied to UND-FB-FAN's topic in NCAA News
I would... .... -
After the dismal 2nd half against Drake and the debacle in Fargo, this is one of those games where the fan base could really get turned off if the team comes out and lays and egg. This is the type of game we should win in our arena. Davis isn't horrible, but they aren't great either. And they are not a bad matchup for our team. Statement game for sure.

I agree that the Big Sky's decision to change the format of the Basketball tournament was an unfortunate one. However, I also think the location of the Summit tournament is a weak argument as well. Based on the number of fans that show up for games at the Sioux Center, I find it unlikely that North Dakota would have a large contingent of fans at a conference basketball tournament regardless of where it was held, except of course in Grand Forks. I've attended games all over the country and have come to the conclusion that UND fans really don't travel well unless the game is being played on ice.
