  1. Has he really said that? Or are you just referring to him applying for the Marshall job?
  2. The Herald reported today that Kupchella wrote a formal letter to the NCAA asking them to allow schools to move sports to DI on a sport-by-sport basis. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/news/13265612.htm IMO, this is just silly. While it would be ideal for UND, and probably lots of other schools, there is no way that the NCAA will allow this to ever happen. To me, this makes it look like Kupchella is basically saying that UND probably isn't going to move to DI. But by forming a committee and writing this letter, he can tell the football alumni and others in favor of DI that he did everything he could do to look into it. I am starting to adopt the opinion that many others have, that UND will not go DI as long as Kupchella is at the helm.
  3. Sioux lead by 1 Seckar-Anderson at the line less than a minute
  4. Sioux are shooting the ball well, 51%, but do not have presence in the post. UND leads by 2 with 3 minutes left. tie game 2:30 left
  5. Sioux lead by 10, 13 minutes left in the game.
  6. Just thought I'd see what would happen if there was an actual game thread for basketball. Sioux led by as many as 9 points but are down by 4 at the half.
  7. I know the Massey Ratings don't mean much to most people, myself included. But in the latest Massey Rating, UND is the third highest rated DII team (GVSU, Saginaw) in the ranking. Just to illustrate the strength of the Northwest Region, the Top 5 teams are all from the NW. Also, UND is rated higher than 97 of the 120 I-AA football programs. Unfortunately, NDSU is ahead of UND by 9 spots. http://www.masseyratings.com/rate.php?lg=cf
  8. Jeff Kolpack article in today's Forum on UND and DI. Nothing new. http://www.in-forum.com/articles/index.cfm...=Jeff%20Kolpack
  9. I like Lammy alot too. But Parise was hot at the end of last season, and has been hot at the beginning of this one. If I remember correctly, at the beginning of last season, Lammy was the hot goalie, and many of us were convinced that he was our goaltender. Right now, though, I'd like to see Parise play both nights in conference games, and split them in non-conference games. I also don't think it would be a dumb idea to shake it up and have Lammy start on a Friday and Jordan on Saturday, since the team seems to be coming out more fired up on Fridays right now. Maybe that could help boost Phil's confindence. I heard Parise on 1310 KNOX on Wednesday, and without knocking Phil in any way, he basically made it clear that he wanted to be playing both nights.

  11. SDSU has been admitted to the Mid-Con for swimming & diving. http://www.mid-con.com/release.asp?RELEASE_ID=3398
  12. So hypothetically speaking, if Rastilav Spirko, scored 30 goals and 40 assists this season, an NHL team could draft him out of the blue this season? In other words, it does happen, that an older college player gets drafted?
  13. Thank you. I said I would be asking dumb questions.
  14. So is +/- more an indication of good defensive play, offensive play, or overall play. Everytime I see stats on TV for hockey games for a player it is always: goals, assists, and +/-.
  15. I've been a casual college hockey fan since my fresman year at UND in 1996, but I've become a rabid hockey fan (especially college) in the last two years. I hate to have to ask this, but how is the +/- computed? It seems to be a pretty important stat. Also, how does the draft work, regarding older players? Will players like Jordan Parise and Rastislav Spirko ever be drafted, or will they have to take the free-agent route to continue their careers in the pros?
  16. I admit that I don't know alot about USD. I would like to see them move with UND, especially if a BSC invite is not in the fold. About all I do know is that they haven't been competitive in football for years, until recently. And that their host city is far smaller than those of the other 3 Dakota schools. Are they really anywhere near good enough financial shape to make the move? Didn't they have to cut baseball recently? I would think that if UND left, UNO would either move up or over, leaving USD as the dominant program in the NCC, and they'd probably like that. Does anybody know how many scholarships the other NCC programs are at? Especially USD, UNO. That shocks me! How can the Sun Belt be more attractive than the conference that is right in their backyard?
  17. Another question out of the blue: With DII getting so "watered-down" has there been any DI talk from the other traditional DII powers like, say....Pitt St., Indiana of PA, or GVSU?
  18. I really don't think that the Sky would be interested in any school east of I-29. The Sky is already an extremely far reaching conference, that is really spread out. That's why I think it is probably 3 Dakota schools, or none. We're already on the outer fringe. The western most members would really object to expanding that far.
  19. GVSU hosts Michigan Tech on satuday. Tech is 6-3, and lost a close game (17-10), AT #7 Saginaw Valley last week. Wouldn't an upset be nice? I won't hold my breath, but I'll keep em' crossed.
  20. I love the idea of the 12 team Big Sky. I think it is the most logical step the Sky can take to fortify itself in all sports, not just football. It makes sense for the Montana schools because I think they are the cornerstone of the conference, and I'd think it is no joyride for them to have to travel to Places like Sac State and NAU. A 12 team conference including the 3 Dakota schools offers them natural rivalries and better travel, and doesn't further hinder UNC or Weber as far as travel goes. I wouldn't think any of these schools would object to adding the 3 Dakota schools. And, obviously, it is the best overall option for all 3 of the Dakota schools. That being said, while this is a logical scenario, I think the Sky has another logical option as far as expansion goes, and fear that this is the way they could be leaning. They are at 9 members now (starting next year). This is fine for football, but not really ideal for basketball. Perhaps their goal all along has been simply to grow into a 10 team league, and their looking to add one more member and be done with expansion. I don't know who that member may be, but I think if this is the case, none of the Dakota schools are very attractive contenders. Southern Utah fits geographically, but I don't know much about them, whether or not they are a school the BSC would consider, or if SUU is even interested. Another candidate, assuming the BSC wouldn't mind adding one non-football school (I have no idea if they'd want that or not), would be Denver. Perfect geographic fit, in a large market. As members of the Sun Belt in most sports, their travel costs must be astronomical. I'd think they'd join in a heartbeat, if they were offered the opportunity. But like I said, maybe the Sky has no interest in a non-football school. However, I still hold out hope that 12 teams is their agenda. If they wanted a ceiling of 10, I personally would have thought a package addition of NDSU and SDSU for 2006 would have been more attractive than UNC in the long-run, despite travel concerns. Just a question out of the blue, has their ever been any indication in recent years that any current members of the SKY would look/like to leave for a different conference if a spot were made available?
  21. One of the things that Roger Thomas said way back when was, "We'll see how the transition period goes for NDSU. Maybe we'll see that Division I in all sports would make sense for us." Part of the reason UND is looking into it again could be because UNC/NDSU/SDSU have not totally fell on their faces. UNC got a conference invite in their 3rd year. NDSU is ranked in the top 25. SDSU has put together a fantastic bball schedule. NDSU and especially SDSU have had enormous increases in attendance in football. These could all be mitigating factors in UND looking into it again.
  22. Just thought this thread on the Pitt State Gorillas' message board was funny. Apparently, Ralph Englestad was a bachelor-hermit who left his entire fortune to UND when he passed away. This should solve all funding problems for everything! http://www.teamkong.net/cgi-bin/ikonboard....f=1;t=1588;st=0
