  1. It is on again, Dec. 17 at 4:30 p.m CST. NFL Network (DirecTV Channel 212)
  2. Is there a bar in the Chicago area that leans toward Notre Dame? If there is they would probably get Fox Sports North, and that's all you need!
  3. Again, and I quote, "They've made their bed, now they have to sleep in it."--Gene Taylor How juvenile is that?
  4. There is NOTHING wrong with the rivalry. It is a rivalry, and I'll be the first to admit that I miss the games of the rivalry. Do you think it is any different between Michigan and Michigan St. or Florida and Florida St.? You are too caught up in trying to manufacture a rivalry from thin air (SDSU) to realize it. There was nothing wrong with Kupchella's comments, NDSU assuredly isn't going to go out of it's way to inflate the importance of UND to the Red River Valley and the state of ND, therefore, one could assume their numbers are at the very least a minimum which is impressive.
  5. That's what I was trying to say, I agree
  6. With the landscape of DII continually changing, and with UND and SCSU looking into DI moves, what are the odds that the hockey schools of the NCC could move up to DI, form a conference, and leave behind Augie and USD to deal with the NSIC and Dac-10?
  7. Concentrate on Grad School. That way, you'll make more money so you can give more to Fighting Sioux Athletics. Listen to the audio webcast while you study. You can focus on future games. Remember the Sioux play the Gophers every year, unlike other minor ND colleges!
  8. Damn, what does that say about me?!? Really though, I like Bernstrom. I've noticed during broadcasts of football and basketball games that he gets lost in his notes some, but I remember when Marni Gellner, as easy on the eyes as she was , constantly fumbled through the highlights on the weekend sports casts. It was like pulling teeth trying to listen to her. Personally, I think they should move Bernstrom to Fargo and give him Steve Hallstrom's job.
  9. Tony, you have hit the nail right on the head. Nobody can honestly argue that one of the reasons RT didn't sign that contract was because UND wanted to spite NDSU. But, by definition, that is a theory and at best heresay. The fact is though that UND's official reason for not signing it is because of the playoff implication factors that said game could have. Implications for a program that for the past several seasons year in and year out is a favorite or at least a contender for the national championship. If the roles were reversed and UND went DI first do you honestly think anything would have been different? Would NDSU have agreed to play a hated rival that suddenly had nearly double the scholarships? 2 years later, with Bunning at the helm and showing interest in having the game, Taylors official response for showing no interest was, and I quote, "They've made their bed, now they have to sleep in it." Don't try to paint UND as vindictive or nasty and NDSU as a bastion of morality, because the truth is that both institutions are forever linked as rivals, competitors, and peers because they are so similar in many many ways. Although most Bison supporters would like to believe it, the fact that they gave the NCAA $15,000 in 2003 to change divisions, doesn't make them Notre Dame or Duke.
  10. For those of you across the country that get Fox Sports North, the ad in the GF Herald said "Watch Thursday at 10:00 p.m.". Not sure what this means but FSN Live usually airs before and after Gopher Hockey games (which would be Fri & Sat)........ Anyways, the ad said guests will be Jim Kleinsasser (he dunked on me in high school ), Roger Thomas, Dave Morinville (Moorhead Highschool Hockey Coach), and Dave Hakstol. Hosted by former Fighting Sioux homer/Current Gopher Homer Marni Gellner (my college roomate's cousin and ex-WDAZ weekend anchor). Ironically, Marni Gellner was once a guest speaker in a class that I was in with John Bernstrom while we were at UND. She went on to Midwest Sports Channel (now Fox Sports North), and Bernstrom got her job. And here I am, a big nobody, reminiscing about them.
  11. Just said titles, not National Championships. Could he be referring to conference titles? NDSU fans are quick to point out that conference championships in DI mean alot more than National Championships in DII.
  12. It is always nice to be mentioned with the likes of Harvard, Princeton, and everyother university that is collaborating in this effort.
  13. Spirko will likely be here for 4 years. I really like him alot, he is fun to watch. But I don't think he is the type of impact player that could even be a candidate for the Hobey.
  14. The guys played kinda ugly, but got the win. Lindahl looked good again. They have no inside presence and have trouble rebounding. Really fun game to watch though, have to give credit for pulling it out. Don't know much about CCU, 1-4 this year, but I heard Sweeney say they were 19-9 last year. Sad to see so many people leave the Betty early during what was really an entertaining game throughout.
  15. I admit I know nothing about soccer. I'm a UND fan and I keep track of how all the sports are doing. From what I can tell, this program is on the right path. I have heard that the field our favorite squad plays on is similar the grass clearing in my yard where I park my farm machinery. I am about to pose a really stupid question: Why can't they grow grass in Memorial Stadium and play soccer there?
  16. Good showing by the Sioux tonight against a decent Mesa State team. Lindahl, Doyle, and Nobles all played well. Looked on TV like the Betty was pretty empty though.
  17. If you build it, they will come.
  18. First off, I am a huge supporter of UND and ALL of its athletics, I don't want to see any program suffer. Not football, not XC. Not hockey, and not Tennis. And I sure don't want to belittle any of our wonderful programs or the athletes that play them. But....... I have heard alot of talk about UND being better off as a "Big fish in a small pond". Well, my question is what constitutes being a big fish? Being good in Football, Women's Basketball, and Swimming? Cause those are the only sports UND has had national championship success in. I would like to know what other "fish" are in the national FB/WBB/S&D "pond" that UND is the big fish of. Track & Field has had little success since the 1930's. Baseball has won 2 NCC titles, the last in 1967. Soccer has never won an NCC title but appear to be headed in the right direction. The Tennis team has made the NCAA tourney 4 years in a row. But in 66 years they only have three conference championships. The softball team has not had a winning season in this millenium. Men's basketball is in a downward spiral, and hasn't won an outright NCC title in 15 years. In the meantime, Football has enjoyed a period of unprecedented success with its first national championship, the women's basketball team has won 3 national championships in the last 10 years, and the Swimming & Diving teams have crowned 22 individual National Champions and 16 relay team national champions, and competes against and has success against DI competition all season long. My point is that ever since UND has been playing football, women's basketball, swimming and diving, those programs have had success, and can usually be counted on as being a factor in NCAA play. The same cannot and has not ever been said about UND's other sports (except Men's B-ball every once in a while). Why not get behind these programs even more, and propel them to higher level, where I firmly beleive they will continue to have success, and continue to work on developing the rest of the Athletic Programs at the next level where at the very least, more fans may take notice if they are competing against the Minnesotas or Montanas of the world than they do if they are competing against the Upper Iowas or Wayne St. of the world. A Move to DI: Good Idea
  19. Free-to-Air Satellite, thanks in large part to PSB and Iceberg.
  20. I thought that last year, when RT was all gung ho and sending the inquiry letter to the Big Sky that the dead line was Dec. 10?
