  1. Wisconsin is my #2 most hated rival. Mostly because they are a bastion of morality that refuses to play schools with Native American nicknames..........unless it is a conference game, or a post-season game and they stand a chance of losing some $$, that is. I like to think that their policy stems mostly from experiencing shallackings at the hands of said institutions.
  2. Anybody know what the $$ is that UND would get from the Frozen Four if we were DI in all sports?
  3. I was going to mention that fumble, but I didn't have a good vantage point of the play. It looked like they prematurley indicated UNO recovered, then the UND linemen came out of the pile with the ball, then there was a lengthy discussion among the officials that ended with UNO retaining possession. Lennon was livid at this point. But like I said, I didn't have a real good vantage point. We need to take care of business next week in the Dakotadome. If we lost that game, depending on what Grand Valley does, we could be in jeopardy of not having any playoff games at home.
  4. The offense was just horrid, as a whole. I didn't see one good thing on offense all day. It was the worst I've seen them play in my three years as season ticket holder. The defense was solid as usual, but just ran out of gas in the 4th quarter. I am usually not one to criticize officals, as they have a better view of the game than I do, but there are things that were a joke, yesterday. The one interception that Belmore threw on the sidelines at midfield, the DB looked to be clearly out of bounds. The final UNO drive that culminated in the score to take the lead, there was 3rd down play, Masek rolled out under heavy pressure, threw to Denney, the pass was 10 yards over his head, and 10 yards out of the endzone, totally uncatchable. This is not the NFL, it doesn't matter if you're out of the pocket, it was clearly intentional grounding in my opionion. And don't get me started on the clock management. However none of this would have been a factor had UND taken care of business on offense. If not of the defense and special teams, we would've lost 20-10.
  5. I see......I was not aware of that. Thanks bisonguy.
  6. UND 26 UNO 17 Let's get the people out ther for this one. Biggest game of the season so far. UND has a chance to average over 10,000 per game this season. Let's make it happen.
  7. Haven't seen anybody else mention it, but I think the big news of the day is that NDSU will be playing U of M in football in 2007. What do you all think? While I understand the game will likely be a slaughtering of NDSU, it is also great exposure, guarantee money, etc. While I love the fact that UND is what it is in DII, challenging themselves rather than playing "cupcakes" all the time, by scheduling the best of DII, i.e. Westchester, Winona St., etc., I do fear that UND is falling behind our long time rivals from the past, and likely our rivals of the future, NDSU. I think a move to DI is inevitable, but I prefer sooner rather than later. I will reiterate what I have said before, that U of M would likely/prefer to bring in UND for a similar guarantee game because of the long and established rivalry we already have with them in hockey. Such a game would also likely be a blowout, but the added exposure and revenue would be tremendous. NDSU will be playing a top notch DI team in its 5th year of transition. I really feel they could probably bring in UND in the 3rd year. Big help. The Forum article said NDSU expects to play that Gophers every 3 or 4 years. I'd think they'd love to have UND as an option in years they don't play the Bissson, maybe even in years they do? With the nickname issue where it is at, I think now is the time. For, football we are going to lose our tremendous post-season advantage starting next season, anyways. The cost of moving up added to the cost of fighting to keep the nickname will be huge, but what better time to do it than when our sports will not be eligable for post-season for five years anyway?
  8. I'm watching at home in Binford, with my cool hockey-loving wife.

    ESPN.com

And it doesn't mention hockey either.
  10. I find it ironic that nowhere in the UMD press release is North Dakota referred to as the Fighting Sioux. "Troops" once, but never Sioux. Always "Bulldogs-North Dakota matchup". http://www.umdbulldogs.com/mens/football/i...3&story_id=1990
  11. I am not a great hockey mind, but I like what I have seen so far. Alot. How do the rest of you more educated hockey minds think Toews compares to ZPar?
  12. I have DirecTV, with WDAZ as one of my local channels. Has anyone else with a FTA set-up noticed that the picture quality is much better on the FTA than DTV? I know last year when games were also on WDAZ, I always fired up the FTA receiver and watched on that because the picture is so much better. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.
  13. 90% quality and looking good. 1.2m Primestar dish. I have never seen the replays of a prior game before though, is that new? Also saw the disclaimer about the private broadcast. That's new from last year also.
  14. What do you think so far?
  15. Fightingsioux.com now has television coverage listed on the hockey schedule page. It now lists Jan 13 & 14 at Minnesota on Fox Sports Net. That brings the total of games on nat'l cable TV to 10, including 5 road games. With FSSN a total of 9 road games should be televised. Awsome. Fightingsioux.com does not list the Nov 4 Wisconsin game on ESPNU, however their website still does. http://www.fightingsioux.com/sports/mhockey/schedule.asp
  16. In 2004, Cal-Ploy averaged 8,395 per game. Attendance could be down this year due to the above mentioned renovations. In 2003 they drew 6,700 per game.
  17. I'm sure crowd noise in I-AA has to be somewhat of change. Average DII attendance is 3,700 per game, while average I-AA attendance is 7,600 per game. Remember, most DII games are not played in venues like the Alerus, Fargodome, or even the Dakotadome I'd assume can get loud at times if it is full. I know NDSU has certainly not played in a environment as hostile as the Alerus can be, but I know Montana St was louder and probably so was all of their other away games than was the whopping 1900 fans at Central Washington. UND is currently drawing over 10,000 fans per game this season. That is more than 92 I-AA programs.
  18. There are plenty of Coach Babich's DII recruits still on NDSU's roster, including big contributors like Bobby Babich, Cory Vartanian, and Kyle Steffes.
  19. Just to beat a dead horse: SDSU attendance in their last two years of DII: 5,757/game SDSU attendance in first two years of DI-AA to date: 8,828/game 35% increase NDSU attendance in their last two years of DII: 11,094/game NDSU attendance in first two years of DI-AA to date: 13,533/game 18% increase UND attendance in past two seasons in DII to date: 9,625/game Projected UND attendance at DI-AA (26.5% increase): 12,176/game* *Estimated increase of 26.5% based on SDSU/NDSU increases averaged together (I think this is a plausible number to use in that support of UND's football program is probably more similar to SDSU's than it is to NDSU's because football is considered the secondary sport at SDSU like it is at UND, while football is and always has been considered NDSU's primary sport). Wouldn't it be nice to see a crowd like we saw at the SCSU game, week in and week out? It could mean an increase of around $230,000 per year in ticket sales as well.
  20. I agree completely. My biggest concerns with Duluth is that 1)They are much improved from last year; 2)Bubba knows our team as he is only one and a half seasons removed from it; 3)It is on the road, remember our road games last year against Augie, SCSU, and UNO? I worry that UND is just a totally different team on the road, especially in conference play, hence my concerns about Duluth and USD. I think the match-up between UND's defense and USD's offense should be quite a battle to watch. I must admit though, that when the schedule was released last spring, I was far more concerned about UNO in GF than I was about Duluth or South Dakota on the road. To use an old cliche, I guess that's why they play the games.
  21. Anything can happen in the NCC, so I hate to speculate. With UNO losing another conference game today, I think it proves that UM-Duluth may be for real. I know the have good leadership in Bubba. I think anything could happen in the final 4 games, but Duluth and South Dakota scare me the most as both games are on the road. The whooping that USD put on UNO was pretty impressive. UMD has been impressive today and also against a pretty decent Concordia-St. Paul team. I think they should crack the top 25 this week. I'll be watching closely to see how these two teams do against each other, before we play USD, and also how USD does next week against SCSU. But I'll be watching even closer as to how we do against UMD next week. This will be the biggest game of the season to date, and it is on the road.
  22. Attendance was 8,838 First half was a fun half to watch, in that it wasn't a blowout from the beginning. I think alot of fans got nervous by Ferris scoring the opening drive, but remember the Sioux give up 9 point per game, it's normally just a matter of WHEN the opposition will score. The Sioux dominated Ferris' run game today, and was in the backfield all day. UND's run game was solid today, and Belmore was effecient as usual. I get more comfortable with him every week. Ferris' QB play was actually pretty good considering the defense he was facing. Ferris' punt unit did a great job of neutralizing Dressler, by making kicks that he couldn't return, and most of them were quality kicks as well. Dressler seemed to struggle some today, fumbling once, and flat-out dropping two passes.
