  1. One of the things that has impressed me about Jones is the fact that he seems to always have his teams playing their best basketball at the end of the season. Halfway through 2007-08 season, things looked pretty bleak, but they ended up in the NCC title game. They again played well toward the end of last year against mainly other DI transitionals. What concerns me is the apparent change in recruiting philosophy. I don't know if it is recruiting to the Princeton offense, or just can't get immediate impact guys, but I was quite impressed with his first recruits like Little, Youmens, Harrison, and even Joseph. Haven't seen any guys like that the last two years. Mertens and Clausen are nice players, but not athletic difference-makers like Little especially was.

  3. I will jump on board and am optimistic that next year could be better. It will be difficult to replace Bledsoe and Mertens (Travis B. can be explosive and Travis M. may be turnover prone, but has been a consistent player as a Sioux). Goodman, Haugen, and Archer all give me reason for optimism. I'm hoping Wilmer can progress into a good player, his size is just so appealing. Troy Huff especially looks to be a good looking recruit. Personally, I think Mitchell has been disappointing this season. He looked great at times last year as a freshman, but has struggled alot this season. He's shooting around 33% for the year. That won't cut it either from beyond or inside of the arc. He needs to step it up if this team is to succeed over the next 2+ years. As someone who has been a staunch supporter of Jones (I admit I was pretty emotional after the Mayville game), I feel next year needs to yield some improvement or a change would be justified.
  4. Bledsoe sure looked pretty talented tonight. And I thought Archer played quite well. He looks to be pretty athletic out there and isn't afraid to take it hard to the rim. As they gain experience and add strength, the youngsters will get better, Goodman and Archer in particular I think. As far as attendance, Pat Sweeney did mention on a couple occasions that there was a surprisingly nice crowd on hand considering the weather. Wayne Nelson mentioned the same in his blog.
  5. I see they are trying to get the students to come out....... FightingSioux.com
  6. I'm also looking into finally getting an HDTV. Does anyone have any experience with the newer generation projection HDTV's? I've been thinking of going with a projection over an LCD or Plasma because you can get larger screen sizes. I've seen them advertised up to 82", which I would love, but don't know how much picture quality/clarity I'd be sacrificing compared to an LCD, LED, or Plasma.
  7. I'm not much of a hockey-mind, but being at most of the games this season including Friday night I feel that, in additon to not having Genoway for several months now, losing Hextall's intensity and leadership has dealt a blow to the confidence of this squad. They played with no fire on Friday, and were lucky to get out of Marriucci with a tie. If they would have hung on for the win, I would have almost felt guilty.

  9. Not sure what tonight's game had to do with NDSU but............. Listened intermittently, sounded like Ralston felt the team probably played their best game of the season. Great to see Bledsoe bust out. It was definately a quality win, on the road, against an opponent expected to be one of the top 2 teams in the league. Congrats boys!

  11. They were still mightily inconsistent through the game. At one point, North Dakota led by 20 in the first half until Seattle went on a 24-0 run and had a 5 point lead at one point in the 2nd half.
  12. Nickname issue aside, neither the Men's nor Women's basketball programs are doing much to make UND more attractive to the Summit League...........

  15. I know I'll miss alot of them, but the ones that stand out to me in no particular order are: -Women's basketball going to the Elite 8 in 2001 & 2007 -Men's hockey National Championship in 2000 -Football National Championship in 2001 -Football losing the NC game in 2003 -Men's hockey beating Minnesota in OT in the 2007 West Regional to earn a trip to the Frozen Four -Men's hockey losing in the National Championship games to BC in 2001 & to Denver in 2005 -Upset win for the football team over Northern Iowa -Paukovich breaking Bina's neck -Bina's 180 foot goal against Minnesota -Ryan Duncan wins the Hobey Baker -Men's Basketball hosts Kansas at the Ralph in front of more than 13,000 fans -Football's come from behind win in the 2004 playoffs against Grand Valley State What else?......................

  18. I see where you are coming from..........................I've been adamantly witholding money ever since we went away from the Flickertail moniker.............. Because, afterall, the most important thing about college athletics is not the student-athletes nor what they accomplish on the field of play...........the most important thing about college athletics is what we get to refer to the players as during the climax of a Gary Glitter song.
  19. Who is this "Minnesota" that you speak of? Seriously though.............have the staunch nickname supporters sunk to the point that their new battle cry will be to blame the basketball programs for the demise of the name and logo? Funny, I don't remember alot of backlash being thrown their way back in the ealry 90's when the first Sioux Head logo went away in favor of the geometric one, at time when the Men's Basketball team was dominating and the hockey team was, for lack of a better term, sucking.
  20. What I struggle with most about this year's team is the fact that on multiple occasions, tonight included, UND has entered the half with a managable deficit, a tie, or a lead. Then the wheels seem to always come off in the second half.
  21. I wasn't at the game, but I watched on TV last last night. I didn't notice him get in there. With everyone now healthy, I wouldn't think they'd have put him in there.
  22. 1-10? Although I've tried to be the eternal optimist with this program, sadly I won't make it to the game despite the fact that I've had this circled on the schedule since it came out. I guess a 1-10 record will do that. Santa Claus coming to my town to visit the kids this Saturday sealed the deal.............
