  1. Two possessions with a 1st & Goal that yield a total of 3 points..........
  2. Sounds like they are getting some decent pressure on the QB. 3rd & 15............let's hold' em Defense!!!!
  3. An injury to Bamba is really not what this football team needs.
  4. INT good job! That's the stuff we need.
  5. What a great start..........
  6. The D is picking up right where they left off last week......... 7 SUU 0 UND 12:38 1st Q
  7. WE WON THE COIN-TOSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  8. As far as I know, there is only radio for this game.
  9. The Sioux swept New Jersey Tech at the Betty tonight to take over 1st place. Attendance was a record 891. Congrats ladies...
  10. Southern Utah 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the GWC. They are a much improved team from years past including last year when they beat North Dakota in the Alerus 15-14. This year they have wins against DII Dixie St. and then Top 25 ranked Texas St. They lost this past weekend to #19 Cal Poly in SLO. Their other losses were to Northern Arizona and FBS school San Diego St. and Utah St. The Sioux again appear to be statistically outmatched in several areas against the T-Birds: -SUU has the #1 scoring offense in the conference, UND has the worst scoring defense -SUU is 2nd in the league in total offense (398.5), while UND is last in total defense (449) -SUU is next to last in total defense (412), but UND is dead last in the GWC in total offense (316) -SUU has the worst rush defense in the league giving up 190 yards per game -The Sioux are 2nd in the conference in interceptions, and SUU has thrown the most INT's in the league -Neither the T-Birds nor the Sioux have much of a pass rush........just 3 sacks for each team on the season. -The SUU O-Line has given up a league worst 17 sacks -SUU's O-Line averages 298 lbs. By comparison, Stony Brook's weighed 296 and USF's averaged 292. Ours is around 285. The forecast for Cedar City on Saturday calls for lots of sun and 70 degrees and winds under 10 mph. Who Has The Advantage? Offense: Southern Utah--Dangerous passing game, effective running game. Can become one dimensional though. Defense: Southern Utah--Good against the pass & in the red zone, forces alot of fumbles, but vulnerable to the run. Special Teams: Push--Both teams have excellent kickers and quality return men I like the match-up. Neither team plays particularly good defense. SUU will be tough to stop on offense, but UND has shown the ability to move the ball as well. Their run defense is pourous. If Sutton is healthy, this is the type of game that the UND O-line could gain some confidence in again. We rolled up 190 yards against South Dakota and they have the best run defense in the league. I think it will be a close game that UND will have a chance to win. We are not going to over power their defense and we are not going to shut down their offense, but if UND gets back to doing what it did against Texas Tech, Northwestern St, USD, and Stony Brook, which is take care of the ball, force a turnover, have a good kick return or two, and eliminate penalties, UND will be in a position to win the game at the end. They didn't do any of those things last week. It should be close, rather high scoring game. 33 Southern Utah 31 North Dakota
  11. Thursdays can be problematic as well for alot of people who work a regular job, and especially those that travel from outside of Grand Forks. This game was originally supposed to have been a Thursday game, but Idaho St. screwed that up. I wouldn't mind one Thursday game a season.......either the home opener, or if the game falls on either the duck or deer opener.
  12. Tough............nobody is using the seats right now, so's who's to complain?
  13. Someday, students will be like me and regret not attending as many football (or basketball or hockey) games as often as they could while they were attending UND. When I was a student I rarely attended anything that took place on a Saturday because my ass was hitting the road for home on Fridays. Now I pay several thousand dollars a year and travel 100+ miles every weekend to take in Sioux athletics. Seems kind of stupid that I didn't take advantage of it more when it was free for me, and Memorial Stadium, the Hyslop, and the Ralph were just a few blocks away. On a different note, I think the student section in the Alerus should be moved to the 3 northern most sections of the visitor side. That is prime real estate there, and if the students don't want to utilize it, it would be better to open it up regular season-ticket buyers.
  14. I know, I know..........wikipedia is a terrible source for info but how about this statement? Are our linebackers athletic enough to shoulder the load in DI? They weren't effective enough yesterday to shoulder the load against an NAIA team. Kasowski got a "coverage" sack yesterday, just the second one for the entire team all year. I'm not a great recruiting mind, so I don't know how good the young guys coming up are supposed to be, but I can tell you that on the current defense there are no Digger Anderson, Tim Tibesar, or even Dan Ullsperger type players. The 3-4 was put in to stop the veer offense. How many veer offenses do you see in DI? Cal Poly runs the triple-option, I don't know if that is similar or not. SUU and Davis like to chuck it around. SFA spread it out and tore us up. USD and USF both had quarterbacks that can run, we contained Shephard, but USF's Brown destroyed us with his arm & his legs. Just something to ponder, because what we are doing isn't working.
  15. Worst. Loss. Ever. Sure, Sioux Falls is a nice team, but losing to any NAIA team should never happen to a UND team. This was easily the most embarassing loss I've seen in 20+ years as a Sioux fan. Not ready to jump on the Fire Mussman train yet, he's only had a year and a half on the job, and before 1:00 yesterday had this team exactly where I felt they would be. Manassau and Kelling however are in their 4th season leading this defense, and every year since the D has gotten more and more disappointing. The only concern I have with Mussman's influence on this team, is the apparent Jeckyl & Hyde factor every other week. Have a good showing against FBS Texas Tech, then get smoked by SFA. Totally in control agains South Dakota, then get smoked against NAIA Sioux Falls. UC Davis & Montana St. both went to OT with USD, and really we didn't have much trouble with them after the first couple series.
  16. A little write-up touching on the strength of the Great West from College Sporting News.
  17. The Great West as a conference is ranked 2nd in the FCS in both the GPI and the Sagarin. Link
  18. That portion of my disclaimer was directed at JacksonW's post regarding Lakesbison, which I see has since been removed.
  19. VMeister's posts, although I admit find quite humorous, are teetering on the edge of being Smack, which as we all know is something we try to keep of the SiouxSports.com forums. We can certainly do without posts attacking other posters of other sites which could be construed as personal attacks, defamation, or libel; as outlined in the Forum Terms and Rules section.
  20. October 10 was originally supposed to be a bye week, hence the original Thursday Oct. 15 date for USF. Then Idaho St. bought out their Sept 12 game with us. Stony Brook was added to the schedule very late for October 10, so the USF game was moved to Oct 17 so it wouldn't be short week of preparation. There are alot of things that are certainly not ideal about this schedule, but it is what it is. To me, the worst thing about it is having all 5 home games in a 6 week stretch. Had to have been the lowest turnout for a Potato Bowl game in many years. Potato Bowl and homecoming have historically been the biggest draws (with the exception of NDSU).
  21. The only saving grace for this team thus far is the opportunistic play of the defense. They give up big yards. They were horrid on 3rd down today. Then they come up with an interception, a fumble, or a goal-line stand. That's all good and fun to watch, but you can't consistently win that way. North Dakota was totally overmatched on both sides of the line of scrimmage today. Landry has thus far gotten adequate pass protection this season, but not today. He was constantly on the run, and knocked around all day. Game ball goes to him today in my opinion. When he didn't have time to do it with his arm, he did it with his legs, which I think he would prefer not to do. Run-blocking was non-existent again today. Haven't checked the box score, but I don't remember a sack being registered by UND. That would make 1 sack in 5 games. That is not good. Why doesn't UND blitz more, when they've proven they can't get any pressure on the QB with a 3 or 4 man rush? The recievers seem to be always open downfield anyways. Stony Brook's QB had all day to survey the field on virtually every drop back. How good are Schewnzfier and Hawkins? Answer: real good. Bamba has put together 4 consecutive 100 yard games. This kid is going to be an excellent player. Student section gets an F today for being absent. This was a very frustrating game to watch today, but is a good win over a quality opponent.
  22. 29 North Dakota 20 Stony Brook Off to the Al and then the Ralph tonight.......... Should be a great day!
  23. I think that is because since their inclusion into the MVFC, they are less willing to do home and home agreements with other FCS schools. They have 8 conference games, 1 FBS game, leaving them with two other FCS OOC games to schedule. They want to end up with both at home. Their away game with Sam Houston this year was the back end of a home-and-home that started in 2007.
  24. During halftime of the game on Saturday, they did a video piece on the history of the UND/USD rivalry. Coach Mannasau mentioned that they used to play for the Sitting Bull and that it is in Memorial Stadium.
