  2. See, now there's a substantative post! I was just responding to Lakes' post...........he's the one who brought up football & basketball...........
  3. You are of course aware that North Dakota's football team had twice as many wins as NDSU last season.........and our WBB program is 30 spots ahead of the Bison in the RPI. But at least Saul's squad is tearing it up on the hardwood............... Now why don't you add something of substance to the conversation rather than just trolling.........LINK
  4. That's funny, all we ever play is zone too.........I agree with SiouxDude, I think alot of it has to do with athleticism. Until we meet in the post-season, which is where we normally end your year after getting swept during the regular season!

  7. I have always loved watching a game in the Sioux Center, much more so than in the REA. I've only been to two games in the REA, NDSU in 2004 which had attendance of around 7,500 and that was a great atmosphere, and another game against UNO I believe had around 4,000-4,500. Didn't care too much for that one. I'm of the opinion that all games should be played in Sioux Center until it is consistently sold out, with the exception of future NDSU games. If USD or SDSU games in the future regularly fill the Betty, I would be in favor of playing those games as well, and perhaps any potential future visits by UNI as well given the UND ties there. But the Sioux Center can become a pretty raucous place even when it is just 3/4 full. I didn't realize there were just 2,500 for USD last year, but that was a great environment. Seating capacity could be modestly increased in the Sioux Center easily enough simply by adding larger portable risers. They could have a really large one on the North end since there aren't concessions behind that one. I really think that a 3,000-4,000 seat arena is about the right size for UND, especially given the fact that REA is available for known big draws. Back in the early 90's when UND was getting 4,000-5,000 per game, in addition to being much better teams, there were also only half as many seats available to attend hockey games. The new REA effectively creates more competition for Grand Forks entertainment dollars and allows alot of people to basically "blow their wad" on hockey seats, whereas 20 years ago, many more people couldn't get into the old REA so alot of them chose basketball instead. Hopefully we will end up in the Summit League which averages ~2,700 for attendance. Summit fans probably won't travel nearly as well as NCC schools did save for the Dakota schools due to the much larger of geographic area that it covers compared to the NCC. My 2 cents.
  8. I agree he could probably be more helpful in that role, although he seems to have the shooter's mentality. He's attempted nearly twice as many 3 pointers as two point FGs in his career. He shot from 3 at a pretty good clip last year around 38%. This year he's dropped off to 32%. IMO, Mitchell will be a key factor if this team is to improve over the next two years.
  9. One of the things that has impressed me about Jones is the fact that he seems to always have his teams playing their best basketball at the end of the season. Halfway through 2007-08 season, things looked pretty bleak, but they ended up in the NCC title game. They again played well toward the end of last year against mainly other DI transitionals. What concerns me is the apparent change in recruiting philosophy. I don't know if it is recruiting to the Princeton offense, or just can't get immediate impact guys, but I was quite impressed with his first recruits like Little, Youmens, Harrison, and even Joseph. Haven't seen any guys like that the last two years. Mertens and Clausen are nice players, but not athletic difference-makers like Little especially was.

  11. I will jump on board and am optimistic that next year could be better. It will be difficult to replace Bledsoe and Mertens (Travis B. can be explosive and Travis M. may be turnover prone, but has been a consistent player as a Sioux). Goodman, Haugen, and Archer all give me reason for optimism. I'm hoping Wilmer can progress into a good player, his size is just so appealing. Troy Huff especially looks to be a good looking recruit. Personally, I think Mitchell has been disappointing this season. He looked great at times last year as a freshman, but has struggled alot this season. He's shooting around 33% for the year. That won't cut it either from beyond or inside of the arc. He needs to step it up if this team is to succeed over the next 2+ years. As someone who has been a staunch supporter of Jones (I admit I was pretty emotional after the Mayville game), I feel next year needs to yield some improvement or a change would be justified.
  12. Bledsoe sure looked pretty talented tonight. And I thought Archer played quite well. He looks to be pretty athletic out there and isn't afraid to take it hard to the rim. As they gain experience and add strength, the youngsters will get better, Goodman and Archer in particular I think. As far as attendance, Pat Sweeney did mention on a couple occasions that there was a surprisingly nice crowd on hand considering the weather. Wayne Nelson mentioned the same in his blog.
  13. I see they are trying to get the students to come out....... FightingSioux.com
  14. I'm also looking into finally getting an HDTV. Does anyone have any experience with the newer generation projection HDTV's? I've been thinking of going with a projection over an LCD or Plasma because you can get larger screen sizes. I've seen them advertised up to 82", which I would love, but don't know how much picture quality/clarity I'd be sacrificing compared to an LCD, LED, or Plasma.
  15. I'm not much of a hockey-mind, but being at most of the games this season including Friday night I feel that, in additon to not having Genoway for several months now, losing Hextall's intensity and leadership has dealt a blow to the confidence of this squad. They played with no fire on Friday, and were lucky to get out of Marriucci with a tie. If they would have hung on for the win, I would have almost felt guilty.

  17. Not sure what tonight's game had to do with NDSU but............. Listened intermittently, sounded like Ralston felt the team probably played their best game of the season. Great to see Bledsoe bust out. It was definately a quality win, on the road, against an opponent expected to be one of the top 2 teams in the league. Congrats boys!

  19. They were still mightily inconsistent through the game. At one point, North Dakota led by 20 in the first half until Seattle went on a 24-0 run and had a 5 point lead at one point in the 2nd half.
  20. Nickname issue aside, neither the Men's nor Women's basketball programs are doing much to make UND more attractive to the Summit League...........
