Kicking game is also a concern.......... Miller= PAT/FG, Cameron= Kickoffs, Punts, Long FGs
-
Mussman said on the radio that the QB position is a concern, and that Landry has been struggling this spring.
-
Mussman now just said on WDAY that it now looks like an announcement could be forthcoming in the next week or so on an 11th game, on the road, that will yield a future home game.
-
At the WDAY news conference, Jones said we will be playing at Nebraska and Wisconsin. He also mentioned Northern Iowa, Northern Colorado, UMKC, and the Idaho tourney. Didn't mention venues other than Huskers and Badgers, but I would assume UNI, UMKC, and UNC would also all be road games.

Jeff Kolpack & Jay Thomas are on Sportstalk now with Hak talking about what a great day this is for WDAY. I bet Kolpack is throwing up in his mouth a little bit.........
-
Personally, since I've always relied on the Fargo station to hear broadcasts, I'm glad it is WDAY rather than WZFG. WDAY's night-time signal is much better. I wonder if there will be a change with the football play-by-play........

April 6th, 2010 - Standing Rock Council Decision
bincitysioux replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
Yeah, my guess is this goes until Nov. 30. Standing rock will take some sort of action during the month of November, just like Spirit Lake did in August when the deadline was September. -
Butler going to MBB national title game
bincitysioux replied to MplsBison's topic in Men's Basketball
Most years Butler, Wright St., UW-Green Bay, and UW-Milwaukee would have their way with the entire Summit Leauge. Valparaiso had their way with Summit for better than a decade...........now they're a middle of the pack Horizon league team. If Valpo were still in the Summit, they'd likely be the favorite every year. Look at the Strength of Schedules for the teams of each conference, it is not even close. -

Butler going to MBB national title game

MPLSbison-- I hate to say it but, you are naive to think that UND could accomplish what Butler has. Butler has a proud heritage of basketball, non-scholarship football, no hockey...........they pour virtually all their resources into MBB. IMO you can't compare the two, it's apples to oranges. Do I think eventually down the road that UND can make the tourney, win a game or maybe two, get to the Sweet 16? The answer is yes, eventually. Same goes for NDSU, USD, SDSU, etc. UND and the rest of the Dakota schools are low-majors, always will be. Butler is a bonafide mid-major that plays in a bonafide mid-major conference, that competetively recruits directly against the high major, BCS football-playing conferences. There are only a few that can do that.........the MVC, the WCC, the Horizon. I get your "feel-good" vibe though.........it is pretty exciting to see a team in the NCAA championship that doesn't come from one of conferences that is a member of BCS football. DaveK-- Having said what I just said to MPLS, you really need to get over your hate for "bouncey-ball" as you like to refer to it. WHEN UND makes the tournament it will be just as big a story to Sioux fans as when UND makes the Frozen Four. WHEN UND wins just one NCAA basketball game, it will be just as big a story to Sioux fans as when UND WINS the Frozen Four. Of course one tourney win will not dwarf our past titles in hockey, but WHEN it happens it will be big. Were you not around in the early the 90's when you couldn't get into a UND basketball game? We all love UND hockey and recognize that it is the dominant sport in the region, but we're used dominance in that arena. If we win a tournament game, not just make the field, but win just one NCAA basketball tournament game, we'll all probably talk about it for years, like the '97 Flood. Just my 2 cents........ -
KFGO was an affiliate of the Fighting Sioux Radio Network. KFGO is going to be the flagship of the Bison radio network. Big difference.
-
This was not an option year. Clear Channel sold KFGO etc. back to Jim Ingstad in 2007 (he owned it for years prior to Clear Channel circa 2000). Since then UND has had a yearly agreement with RFM until last summer when both parties signed a 3 year contract. Obviously, there was legal language in the contract that allowed RFM to get out of the deal prior to the culmination of the contract or we wouldn't have this thread. However, and I can't find a link or source, but IIRC Faison was interviewed earlier this year when it was announced that RFM was entering into negotiations with NDSU about being their flagship, and (paraphrasing) Faison stated that he wasn't worried because UND had just signed a 3 year deal and the apparent assumption was that with number of stations in the RFM stable that there would plenty of room for both universities. Heitkamp stated that much as fact. And it obviously goes beyond any DI classification as RFM jettisoned Concordia today. I hope so, and only selfishly because I relied on the Fargo affiliate to hear broadcasts. IMO this is a bigger story than it should be, other than the fact that RFM apparently doesn't honor their contracts. KFGO was simply an affiliate of the radio network, just like KMHA in New Town or KDSR in Williston is. Their will be a new affiliate in the Fargo area in a matter of weeks.

No. Having radio being "in-house" is becoming the norm at the higher levels of college sports. Our radio is run the same way that NDSU's is. If we had a "good ole boy" we probably wouldn't have radio affiliates in Montana and Minnesota, or have a pile of games broadcast on Fox College Sports. Brian Faison and Sean Johnson have done a remarkable job with expanding the media distribution of Sioux athletics. This is only a hiccup. Like I said, KFGO was just one of many affiliates, there are other options in that market.
-
You sure about that? KFGO Radio drops Sioux football, hockey coverage
-
FWIW, I live exactly 100 miles from Grand Forks. I have 4 season tickets to football, and 4 season tickets to hockey. After plopping down $355 per seat for hockey, myself anyways, I can't afford to spend $190 per seat for basketball on top of all that, let alone make the drive every single time there is a basketball game at the Betty considering they play the majority of their home games in the middle of the week. The sports of football and hockey set themselves up nicely for people who travel some distance to make games, since they are almost always on weekends, save for the occaisional Thursday football game. Still though, basketball at UND can make money. Everybody loves a winner, though, that is the thing. It has been a while, like 15+ years, since UND basketball has been a significant factor on a national stage, regardless of NCAA classification. Hockey and football have always been in the mix in that same time-frame that is the difference. Oh yeah, basketball-wise, the Horizon is something like 7.4 times better quality basketball than the Summit League, and I was saying that before Butler made the Final 4. Not meant to be a slight against the Summit, just giving props to the Horizon, something Mplsbison is unwilling to do.

I hope so. Obviously a great radio distribution package doesn't mean as much as it did just 10 years ago, but it still has its merits. KFGO and WDAY are the only Fargo stations that deliver a decent night time signal at a distance. In my case, roughly 100 miles west of both GF and Fargo, it has been great having games on KFGO when I am not home, like if I'm driving or in a tractor to listen to night time games. You can get KFGO and WDAY tolerably well at night in the Jamestown area, 96.1 The Fox not so much. In my area Hockey isn't a problem because there is a strong FM signal out of Devils Lake, but I almost always tune to KFGO for football. My fear is that Hennan will make a serious play to get UND on his station, which can be heard in Hebron during the day, but is questionable in Casselton at night. Perhaps with the dire straights that WDAY is in, they could get some Sioux basketball games on that station in the Fargo area as well. Lord knows they need programming. Doubtful. WDAY Radio would just be an affiliate, not the flagship like they were for NDSU. They'd have the same investment in Sioux athletics as the Plentywood, MT affiliate. ........................ I don't begrudge RFM at all for wanting NDSU. They are a Fargo station and NDSU is the hometown team. I'm a little discouraged at how it all went down though. 2 hours notice? Why renew their agreement with UND last year for 3 seasons when the obviously knew they would making a play for NDSU this year? Selfishly, I'm most upset because for the first time ever when they re-upped last year the Coach's show was available in my area for the first time. I wonder if this affects Hammer's role as play by play guy. I would suspect not. He is an employee of UND just like Hennessey and Ralston. More than anything, this was about RFM burying Forum Comm. even deeper than they already have over the years. They took the Redhawks, the Bison, and most importantly I think, Scott Miller.

UND football: Sioux hit the field: No-huddle offense makes its debut at first UND spring practice I'm a little concerned about going to a no-huddle offense...............it seemed to me that the defense was on the field way to much last year as it was.
-
A 20 game suspension in hockey is the same as a two year suspension in football.................. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'. I agree, no need to throw stones, I know no details. But I do know that our very own best offensive player is not eligible for spring ball and supposedlye on "very thin ice".
-
AGREED.
-
No. Mussman said on last week's coach's show that in the unlikely event that an 11th game materializes, it would probably be an away game with an FCS opponent as the first part of a home-and-home in order to get an FCS home game in 2011.

I doubt that Kelling would leave his defacto D-coordinator position to take the same position at SWMN St. If anything, he'd be looking for a head job at a DII wouldn't he? Wasn't he a candidate for Mankato a while back? Breitbach has only been here for 2 seasons I think. I don't know if any assistants from here would follow him.

Has anything more about Bamba's status with the team for the upcoming season come out?
-
Ed Grom just said that we are hosting the GWC Baseball tournament next season...............that's kind of odd to me. With the Betty, it seems like we'd be a natural host for volleyball. And leading the league in attendance for mens and womens basketball, I'm surprised UVU gets, or even wants, the tournament for the first 2 years.
-
Looks like the coaches probably need to use their quiet voices in the huddle so the other team won't know what they are doing. I'm surprised that UVU didn't play the late game.
