  1. Way back in the day when Wayne Nelson used to post on his blog, he stated at the time of the announcement of the Sioux-Griz games that Montana's buyout was $100,000. I'd say that under the right circumstances, UM could afford to pay that if they chose to, since any home game for them generates around $600,000 gross. Depends on who they could get in to Missoula.
  2. That would be a huge loss. He has done wonders for getting so many UND sports on various media outlets, including Fox College Sports.
  3. This would not be a huge loss IMO..............
  4. Gee, is it OK with you if we speculate at all what the future may hold? The point is that if Utah St. and San Jose St. go to the MWC, it leaves Idaho as the only even remotely attractive opponent for the Montana schools if they made a WAC bid. Utah St. is fairly regional to them, and San Jose would still provide access to California's fertile recruiting grounds. With no USU and SJSU, the WAC becomes even less desirable to any Big Sky team. Theoretically, USU and SJSU's departure from the WAC could force Idaho to realistically look at returning to the Big Sky, which would stabilize the conference far more than the addition of any MVFC team.................
  5. Yes. I don't care how successful or unsuccessful any conference that North Dakota is not a member of is. Except for maybe the BTHC. I hope they fail. I don't have a problem with any Summit member. I don't care of any of them excel or struggle. Well, actually, a small part of me hopes that USD flounders for the near term. They are the ones that really screwed up the football divisions and basketball travel partners for the Big Sky. I bet you thought I'd say I hope that NDSU struggles. Honestly, they rarely come to mind for me.......................... Douple has proven to be very arrogant and dishonest. I would love nothing more than to see the two highest profile programs bolt from his league.
  6. Here is how it will work with the unbalanced schedule: 13 Team, One Division Format Eight-game schedule. Two-rival format. Tiebreaker to determine automatic bid to playoffs. 1. Head-to-head 2. Record against COMMON SCHEDULED CONFERENCE OPPONENTS in descending order. 3. Record against COMMON CONFERENCE NON-CONFERENCE opponents in descending order 4. Record against COMMON NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS 5. Ratings System (TBA) 6. Coin Flip Examples of No. 3: If conference teams A & B both scheduled conference team C in a non-conference game (Not scheduled by the league), the results of that game can be used in a tiebreaker. If conference team A played conference team C in a scheduled conference game, but conference team B played conference team C in a non-conference game, that WOULD NOT BE used in a tiebreaker. Examples of No. 4: If conference teams A&B both scheduled the same non-conference opponent (FBS, FCS or Division II), the results of that game could be used in a tiebreaker. Sounds like the ratings system used in #5 would either be Sagarin or GPI, but has not been determined yet.
  7. The topic of this thread is "Conference Realignments". Let's get it back on track. The topic of the loyalty of North Dakota's fanbase vs. NDSU's fanbase can be a valid one. For anyone who wants to continue that discussion, feel free to start a new thread. This is not the place for it.
  8. That should take a bit of pressure off of Montana and/or Montana St. moving to FBS in the near term. Idaho would be left on an island.........................
  9. The Summit is losing their marquee member in Oral Roberts. Shortly thereafter, they could potentially lose their marquee-member-by-default in Oakland. This is great news, I hope it happens. DISCLAIMER: I'm not giddy about this scenario because I wish any ill-will toward NDSU. I do however wish for the maximum amount of ill-will professionally for Tom Douple.
  10. I like the size and the experience of the offensive line. It all starts in the trenches. Skill positions look great. Improved quarterback play and defensive backfield play would make a world of difference. Improvement in those two areas could make a good team into a great team. I believe everything is in place for the QB position to improve next season, regardless of who is taking snaps. The secondary is a much bigger issue in my mind.....................
  11. The Sioux fell tonight to Seattle, ending Gene Roebuck's career as a head coach at North Dakota. Thank-you Gene, for your devoted service to this fine Univeristy...............
  12. Whoa, whoa, whoa!!!!!!!!!!! You just said a little bit ago that the SD Mines game will only draw 6,000-8,000. Now a few hours later you think it'll draw 10,000? So which is it? The opener against SD Mines will probably draw more than both the Cal Poly and SUU games. Depending on whether or not there is a hockey game going on the day that we play Montana, the Mines game could very well draw more than the game against the Griz will. It sucks that the SD Mines game won't count toward the playoffs, but that's just how the cookie crumbles. You can say "it takes money to make money" but then again, it is not YOUR money that UND is working with.............................
  13. I listened to it on the radio. Very entertaining game. Have to think that under normal circumstances, by which I mean not being away from Grand Forks for a whole week prior to the game, the outcome could have been different. The Sioux were obviously gassed by the end of the game. Congrats to the team for a solid season. They basically played two seperate entire months of the season on the road and still managed to win a conference championship, participate in post-season play, and beat 4 schools that qualified for some sort of post-season tournament. The last month or so gives me some optimism heading into next year to see what they can do with a more consistent schedule. And thank you to Pat Mitchell and Mike Mathison for the time that you have dedicated to the University of North Dakota.
  14. The SD Mines game will probably be one of the better attended games of the season............
  15. I saw Weber St. beat Utah Valley last night. There is free webcast of the CIT games here.
  16. RPI over the past 9 seasons: 2011-12: Summit 16, Big Sky 25 2010-11: Summit 21, Big Sky 24 2009-10: Summit 23, Big Sky 18 2008-09: Summit 26, Big Sky 24 2007-08: Summit 22, Big Sky 25 2006-07: Summit 22, Big Sky 24 2005-06: Summit 29, Big Sky 17 2004-05: Summit 24, Big Sky 29 2003-04: Summit 20, Big Sky 23
  17. Sorry to quote myself, but is it just me or is DI basketball becoming more and more like FBS football? It seems like anybody that finishes with a winning record has a decent chance to play a "post-season" game.........................................
  18. I think here-in-lies the problelm with those who think that North Dakota could realistically replace the SD Mines game with a DI opponent.
  19. I think North Dakota and NDSU are in about the same place as far as basketball goes. If they played 10 times, I think each team would probably win 5 games. I'll say that North Dakota was better this year given that we beat Montana, SDSU, Utah Valley, and NDSU..................all of whom are in some sort of post season tournament. IMO, as long as both schools can remain competitive in their respective leagues, an annual North Dakota-NDSU basketball game has the potential to become the biggest sporting event in the state since we won't be playing the Gophers in hockey or the Bison in football anytime in the near future............
  20. Aaron Anderson. Great all around player. Good shooter, smart with the ball, makes free-throws, makes clutch shots, etc. IMO there is no better ball player in North Dakota right now. Lenny Antwi. Considering the log-jam at the guard position, I didn't expect Antwi would be a significant contributor until sometime several years down the road. He was a key player over the last month as a reserve. He looks to be a good shooter and good ball-handler. Terribly inconsistent and frustrating. Lots of talent but undisciplined. This team gives us fans lots to be excited about, but at the same time makes us pull our hair out. They beat some excellent teams this year, and they also lost to some very poor teams this year.
  21. The Sioux have been playing quite well of late. But given their road woes, I think it is a huge disadvantage that by game-time tomorrow they will have been away from Grand Forks for 7 consecutive days.
  22. That's a bunch of B.S. Seattle averages 600 for home games..........................
  23. Aaron Anderson is hands down the best basketball player in the state of North Dakota. There is no debate.........................
  24. It is obvious that you do not like the Summit League or NDSU for that matter. Just so you know, I don't like either as well. But it is also obvious that Oral Roberts had a very good team this year...............
