  1. I suppose one could debate the definition of a "cartoon". Let me be clear: I am in no way equating North Dakota's current logo to "Sammy Sioux" or "Chief Wahoo". I think Bennet Brien's logo is a beautiful and tasteful work of art. I love it, and both my home and place of business is adorned with numerous examples of it. My characterization of it as a "cartoon" is meant to compare it to an ever-changing abstract idea................ It is a painting.................... A drawing.................... An interpretation........................ It is no different than the cartoonish drawings on the helmets of the New England Patriots football team........... It is no different than the drawings on the jerseys of the Chicago Bulls basketball teams.............. In the end, to me, it is just a piece of marketing.................
  2. Wow. You know, even if UND officially retires the nickname, you could still to choose to continue to worship the abstract cartoon/moniker that you are so infatuated with. In fact, I'd guess you have so many North Dakota games recorded on DVD and VHS from the last 25 years that you could actually pop in hockey or football game each weekend during the winter and you can probably recreate entire seasons for the next decade or so................. you wouldn't even notice any change. So, do that, light some candles and create an alter to the abstract cartoon/moniker, re-live the past, and let the University's athletes that actually contribute and shed their blood, sweat, and tears to this storied program continue to thrive.............
  3. Why am I not surprised that you are begging other people to spend their money for your enjoyment?
  4. They talked a little UND basketball on WDAY radio tonight. Dom Izzo was very high on North Dakota, saying that he expects UND to be one of the top teams in the Big Sky next year, challenging for an NCAA bid. He was interviewing Tom Miller at the time. Miller basically said that if UND played all of their games at home they'd have a great chance..........................
  5. Tom Miller from the GF Herald weighed in on the subject tonight on WDAY radio. He said that the SDSU deal was old news in the Grand Forks area. While touching on the Big Sky's potential issues with the name, he mentioned that Northern Arizona has raised questions about the controversy. That's the first time that I've heard that a specific Big Sky school has raised the issue. I also really couldn't give a hoot if we never played SDSU in anything, but if a school like SDSU that is right next door, of similar size and scope both athletically and academically to UND, and whom we have a 100+ year relationship with is not willing to compete against us going forward, then it will be pretty hard for me to be convinced that any Big Sky school 1000+ miles away will not do the same................................
  6. O'Keefe is an outsider; a liberal PC administrator trying to cover his butt that doesn't understand the great history, honor, and, traditions surrounding the Fighting Sioux name. Oh, wait, nevermind....................................................
  7. You two are hilarious. Tell me, why is it that the both of you continue to opine here, on a Pro-UND site when you both so obviously wish for UND Hockey, the rest of the athletic department, and the University as a whole to fail? I believe one, or perhaps even both of you said that you would accept the retirement of the abstract cartoon figure/moniker once the Spirit Lake lawsuit ran its course..........................
  8. Idaho dropping to FCS and returning to the Big Sky would be great. It would balance things out for all sports, and stabilize the conference for the long term.
  9. I think a 4th or 5th place finish is a realistic prediction for North Dakota this season, and I think they could finish as high as 3rd provided we get better QB and secondary play. Emphasis on secondary play moreso than QB play. Bradley was 4-3 as the starter last season. Two of those losses were to FBS teams (we were in a position to win one of those), and the other loss was to the GWC Co-champion.................... Regardless of who wins the job, whether it be Hanson or Bradley, I think that position is much improved from a year ago. If it is Hanson, great. He has great credentials. I have not seen him, but those who have here speak highly of him. As far as Bradley goes, he proved to be accurate and make good decisions. Now he has another year under his belt. Look how much better Goska was in the last half of 2011 compared to the last half of 2010 when he took over for Landry. We won in a decent league last year with pedestrian QB play and atrocious secondary play. Improve the pass defense, and this team could be poised to have a very nice season..........................
  10. Seems like North Dakota's Indoor Practice Facility is on about the same timeline as NDSU's new basketball arena.............................
  11. On paper, Cal Poly is probably one of the 3 best teams in the Big Sky. On top of that they by far have the easiest schedule in the league for 2012.
  12. I agree that it is great the UND passing attack had a great day. But given poor the pass offense performed last season, I'm a bit concened that basically the same group had 3 100 yard receivers on the day against our D.
  13. There need to be some offensive plays designed to get Anderson and Schuler open from beyond the arc. And I mean something other than a high ball-screen at the top of the arc. Agree, that Huff is not a shooter...........................
  14. You have to remember that USD is the same school that purchased an interstate billboard at a Brookings exit to advertise for an away game.........................
  15. I think it looks great.................... I could care less what letters of the alphabet are at mid-field, as long as we have a top notch playing suface..............................
  16. Also Minneapolis player of the year....................
  17. Someone refresh me on the scholarship situation. Gone: Mitchell, Gentry, Goodman Incoming: Traylor, Salmonson So is there one scholarship still open?
  18. I wish we could count on that for a regular season game..........................
  19. Excellent news! You can't teach height. I'm glad the staff was able to address this major area of concern. Hopefully these guys are able to contribute this season. Jones has had some luck with JUCO transfers in the past: Little, Youmens, Mertens, Clausen..................
  20. Early 2012-13 Big Sky Rankings #8 - North Dakota
  21. I pick the White team to win. Jameer Jackson to be the offensive standout. Cordero Finley to be the defensive standout. I suspect guys like Miller, Hardin, McGill, Brenneman, Goodman, Sutton, will not see a ton of snaps.........................
  22. South Dakota State and UMKC will be visiting the Sioux Center next season..........................
  23. Here's the "unofficial schedule": -10 Home games against Big Sky teams -10 Away games against Big Sky teams - @ NDSU - 2 Home games against DII/NAIA teams - 7 Non-conference games TBA
  24. 4-5 years ago, a group of baseball alums made a decent contribution to the program because it was being neglected. The University just invested some substantial coin into Kraft Field. I don't think baseball is going away any time soon. I love the sport of baseball, but if I were "A.D. for a day", my first order of business would be to drop the program. It just doesn't pencil out at the DI level when you are possibly the northern-most team in DI, have poor facilities, and no conference. I used to like the idea of Lacrosse to replace it, but now I think we'd be better served to just divert those resources to football and/or basketball............
  25. Pretty tough for me to vote, considering I haven't personally seen Hanson. On paper, he should be the guy. But I would think that a full year in the system would be very beneficial to Bradley..........................
