This team definately has the talent to do that, but it will be a tall order. As we've all seen, Big Sky conference games can often be a crap shoot. The most difficult games IMO will be @ Northern Colorado and the season finale against SUU at the Sioux Center. We've already lost at home to UNC, and SUU handled us pretty easily at their place. UND needs to get healthy the next few weeks. Schuler needs to get back, Brekke needs to get to full speed, and we need Archer back for depth.

I would guess that the North Dakota brass wants little to do with the Summit's commissioner.

2012-13 Basketball Attendance.....................
bincitysioux replied to bincitysioux's topic in Men's Basketball
What is the capacity of the DEE? I thought it looked rather sparsley populated on TV. Must be pretty big if there were close to 9,000 there. -
True, but the 2010 schedule was weak as well. Flipped the record in a year's time. That is hard to do.

A Rundown of the Big Sky Standings

He got me on board when he flipped the record from 2010 to 2011 with no quarterback on the roster. There has been some ugly under his watch, but there has been some pretty too. USD made a coaching change last year, and they didn't win a game this season. The nickname issue was a cancer, that no other program in transition has had to deal with.

Well, I'm happy that the baseball team will now have access to the NCAA tournament. But I still think they'd be far better off diverting all those resources to football and basketball. Sorry, baseball fans...................

I'm not sure. I know they got into the Summit a year early and were not eligible for championships, but not sure about the MVFC. I seem to remember them entering that league with a thud though. Golly, where in the world is Bison Dan when we REALLY need him?
-
Do I have my math wrong? Wasn't Fargo's 3-8 year their first year in the MVFC and first year of eligibility? Sans our first year in the Big Sky and first of eligibility?

As to your last question, I personally would prefer that we just stay THE University of North Dakota forever, forgoing an official nickname. It would be the only real way I can see that the Sioux name could continue, carried on by the fans. Sort of how the Montreal Canadiens are often referred to as the Habs, or Pittsburg Pirates referred to as the Bucs, even though they are not offical names. When they come up with a new name, the Fighting Sioux will fade into history eventually.

The schedule is favorable in the sense that there are 7 home games, and what should be the toughest games are all at home. However, the fact still remains there are 3 playoff teams, plus Northern Arizona who narrowly missed the playoffs, plus Montana who probably won't be down for long. And we are returning a 5-6 team that featured the worst defense in program history and will be starting a freshman QB. I'm not real confident about getting 7 wins.

They did invite North Dakota to join, thankfully we turned them down.

A search of the football forum going back to July of 2012 yields the following:

I believe Valpo announced their intentions to leave before Douple got hired. Southern Utah is another member, like Oakland, that spent years trying to get out of the Summit/Mid-Con and into the Big Sky. In fact, Douple was the A.D. at SUU prior to taking the commissioners job. He spent years as the SUU A.D. trying to leave the Summit, then as commissioner of the Summit, he worked to push SUU out. It was mutual though, neither wanted the other. Chicago State was asked to leave because they were such a pathetic program, also before Douple's hiring if I recall correctly. Due to his brilliant leadership, the Summit is now in a position where there is a good chance they will be invited back. I'll be shocked if Denver spends more than one year in the Summit.

Agree that the Summit would be a much better fit for baseball for North Dakota (if we must continue to sponsor that sport). But I doubt that UND wants anything to do with the Summit League in any aspect as long as their current commissioner is in place. And even when you throw out the bad blood between Faison/Kelley and Douple, one has to question the leadership abilities of the Summit commissioner. For example: He made false public statements to the media regarding the existence of a policy forbidding league members to schedule UND because of the nickname USD publicy announced intentions to leave the conference before ever playing a game in it They lost the marquee program of the league in Oral Roberts The current defacto marquee program, Oakland, has for years publicly expressed their desire to be in a different conference The oldest remaining member of the league, UMKC, just left to become a member of what is perhaps academically the most hideous conference in all of the NCAA If my favorite school were a member of this league, I'd be pushing my A.D. and President pretty hard to have this clown removed.

Obviously a national search needs to be done to see what kind of applicants it yields, but I wouldn't mind seeing Kotelnicki getting promoted to DC. I believe he has experience as a coordinator, and the special teams have been down right "special" under his watch.

When will our coaches take the time in practice show the players the proper technique for setting a screen?
