2024-25 University of North Dakota Hockey Season
iramurphy replied to Frozen4sioux's topic in Men's Hockey
Do we know what his injury is? -
You are probably correct
-
My mistake. Ziebarth and Seidel are both back. I still like Hunt and thought he would be in the mix.
-
Yes, my mistake. He and Seidel will be 1-2. Hunt would be in the mix but not critical loss however, I liked how hard he runs.
-
I am not doubting your statement, but wonder who you are hearing that from. It was clear we have roster needs, but anyone who watched film would be looking forward to a backfield with Seidel Ziebarth and Hunt next fall. Losing Hunt is a big loss. The oline needs to keep improving but should be better next fall. We have guys on this roster who can play but need to get stronger, continue to develop and be put in a position to succeed. I guess we will see over the next few weeks if the new staff can maintain the enthusiasm and momentum created with the new hire. Still waiting for the new staff to be announced and help upgrade the roster.

This one is a big loss. He averaged over 13 yds per carry, always ran hard, broke tackles. RB was probably our deepest position but he deserved more touches. I thought he would be one of our top 2 RB’s next fall. I see it as a red flag.

Spot on and I believe our biggest challenge . When was the last time we had a goalie that can carry the team for 8-10 games straight, including steal some games when we are outplayed? I thought Slukynsky was that guy but we missed on him somehow. There are others but it seems we’ve had guys who can do that at times, but not consistently .
-
I doubt rocket scientists even think about things like that. Yet, you came up with the analogy. Just wondering. 🤔
-
You know this how?
-
They need to make a lot more the 50% of their free throws. If they can’t do that they can’t shoot well enough to win games.
-
Locker room isn’t divided. Not sure who starts that nonsense.

Eric Schmidt named head coach of North Dakota football
iramurphy replied to cowboys5xsbs's topic in Football
I think the players have already received a clear message that things have changed. Eric needs to bring together a staff that can recruit the right players, then develop them to reach their full potential. The fact that the team struggled to get to the next level doesn’t mean none of them can coach. Schmidt can figure that out better than we can. Regardless of how many (if any) of the old staff is retained, the HC needs to get them to buy in to how he wants things done, and then make sure the staff and players accomplish the stated goals. -

I believe that one of the things that came across loud and clear was an answer to a post last fall regarding goals and expectations. President Armacost, Bill Chaves and Eric Schmidt have set goals of, and expect to win, conference and national championships. -

I believe he plans to make sure they pay attention to details, take no shortcuts, assume nothing, do things the right way from the beginning to the national championship. Message is to his players rather than fans or public. I predict his teams will be fundamentally sound, play to the whistle, and have each others backs. How fast they get to the championship is dependent on improving talent through our speed and conditioning in addition to an upgrade in talent through recruiting. Should be fun to watch his teams evolve. -

It has nothing to do with the 1970’s but you are absolutely correct. The fastest way to correct our deficiencies is the portal. Not a lot of freshman are ready to play. Until we get the transfers on campus the staff and players need to go to work everyday as if these are our guys and we are going to put together a team that will win the conference title next fall, get into the playoffs and see if we can win the whole enchilada. I hope we sign 10-15 portal guys that are either starters or in the 2 deep rotation. -

I’ve been around long enough to see marked improvement of an athlete year to year. I have no idea if that will happen, nor do I know which of our QB’s might accomplish that(if any). Normally, the younger guys have more room for improvement. Frankly, I no longer care what happened last season. With a new staff, it creates opportunities for players to move up on the depth chart. Will our group of QB’s show marked improvement under new guidance or will we see new names step into the starting role? I may be wrong, but I think we have a number of players capable of making big strides in the off season especially with a new staff that hopefully with regenerate players inner drive to excel. How much bigger and stronger is only one factor. Will our speed and strength results improve significantly over the next 6mos? I would certainly hope so. -

That’s assuming Romfo doesn’t continue to improve or that no one else improves enough to move ahead of him. Either way Oline, and receivers need to be better too. I think whoever is the starter, the QB will look better if new scheme involves our TE’s in the passing game. -

Depends on who we have on the roster to compete with him. Depends on who the OC is and what schemes we use. Lastly, it depends on how much Romfo improves. Regardless of who the QB is, a lot depends on the oline and the rest of the supporting cast, but I believe we need improvement across the board. -
Gotta hang on to Deng first.

How much does he need? -
Agree. I suspect that he learned and matured as a coach along the way. If one doesn’t learn from their failures/struggles, then they are missing an opportunity to improve.
-
Yup. Good coaches don’t always win. Owners and fans only look at Wins and losses. Hard to be patient.
-
He should be talking to DeBoer to see if any of their portal guys are options.
-
I think great players allow coaches more options to be successful.
