  1. I guess I was looking for a picture from the game. I've seen the picture on INCH of just the jersey.
  2. Question for those that watched the game tonight...did we have vertical or horizontal stripes on the socks? Oh, and anybody have pictures?
  3. I've never worn one, but I still think it would be a big mistake to move toward this style of jersey. The hockey sweater is an iconic part of the sport. The powers that be want to change one of the most recognizable parts of the game...why? To save a few ounces? To sell a few more jerseys? I don't buy it. Give me the classic free-flowing sweater over a 'technologically superior' uniform any day.
  4. Don't you think the form-fitting streamlined jerseys will allow opponents to see exactly where the padding ends? I think the streamlined jerseys might be worse for the players as far as getting hooked, slashed, etc.
  5. This is happening in college basketball with all the nike teams too. Everyone is going to the same jersey template. The NHL is going to be switching from their classic look to something similar to this template. They are all changing their jerseys to the same look...soon everybody will be a part of team nike. It makes me sick. One of the things I love about hockey is the uniforms. They are so much different than anything else. The sweater is classic, Could you imagine the Detroit Red Wings in anything other than what they wear now? Or the Montreal Canadiens? And as far as being form fitting and aerodynamic? Please. Doesn't it look great to see the jersey of The Oshie or Toews flapping in the wind as they speed down the ice? I think UND could use a new jersey, maybe bring in some more green and a horizontal stripe on the bottom, but these jerseys are terrible. Maybe the jersey and socks wick away sweat and water better, but where does that water go? Down into the skates maybe? I really hope the hockey world doesn't fall for this 'Technologically Advanced' mumbo-jumbo. Stick with the classic sweater look. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
  6. Done. If anyone else wants to send along a request, the contact I have is Chad Hopman, the visual designer for the arena. His address is chadh@theralph.com, or you could take the route I did initially, email fans@theralph.com
  7. I wish the people at the Ralph would make the intro videos available for the public. I would love to start my day checking out a sweet video montage of some Fighting Sioux highlights. They could put them on their website, or maybe the UND athletics website. I e-mailed them last year after the regional tournament to ask about making these videos available and they said that it was something they were looking into for the future.
  8. I posted this in the former players thread, but this thread seems like a good place to post it too. Leland's is auctioning off a bunch of sports memorabilia, and included among the auction goodies is a set of Greg Johnson game worn home and away Nashville Predators jerseys. Here is the link...currently going for $363 for both jerseys. Lots of other cool hockey stuff to look at too...
  9. Here's an interesting item, and just in time for that special Sioux hockey fan on your Christmas list. Leland's is auctioning off two (one home and one road) game worn Greg Johnson Nashville Predators jerseys. Here is the link. The current bid for the two jerseys is at $363...
  10. Parise, not Zajac, scored the game tying goal and was awarded second star of the game last night. Zajac had 2 PIMs...UNDintheNHL - it looks like you swapped names in front of their stat lines.
  11. Ever seen anything like this at a UND sporting event? Me neither. Maybe our fans should try to be more like FSU's fans, since they don't promote a "hostile and abusive" atmosphere at all...
  12. Whoa! He's only 13 (or 14, I guess)...how many kids, even star hockey players, know where they want to go to college at that age? Let's give the kid a few years, eh?
  13. Good point, I guess I overlooked this. Every league at every level has a few unique unwritten rules. Don't lift the puck at the park, buy beer after the game if it's your turn, etc. Dikaia - It is sort of confusing when you quote multiple people in the same post without saying where you pulled the quote from. In your last post you pulled a few lines out of my quote and attributed them to TRIOUXPER. It'd be easier to follow if you'd leave the name in on the quotes.
  14. No, that's Adam and crew
  15. Wow...I can't believe this has gone 10 pages. The debate seems to have gone from "is fighting in the nhl important (or necessary) for the game" to "do you have to have played the game at a high level to understand what is going on." I'd like to go back to the initial topic, "Is fighting a necessary (or integral) part of the NHL game" You have to remember one thing above all else, the NHL is a business. Their main goal above all else is to make money. Someone showed a poll earlier that 80-some% of fans in some poll liked fighting in hockey. Well, fans pay for tickets and merchandise and watch games (read: see ads) on TV. If the fans seem to like something, the NHL will abide because they want to make money. I'm sure the league could create rules to limit fighting much to the level we see it at the NC$$ level, but they don't. PCM obviously thinks that the NHL would do quite well to eliminate fighting from the game and show a product similar to the NC$$ game. He feels that fighting takes away from the integrity of the game enough that he doesn't watch NHL games on a regular basis. In PCM's case, the NHL is losing his business because they allow fighting to be a part of the game. However, PCM must be with the minority here, because if there were more people that were turned away from the NHL by fighting than those who want it as part of the game, the NHL would adapt and change the rules. Dikaia880, in my opinion, is being treated unfairly here. He/she supports fighting as a necessary part of the game. Fine, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. (Now to the second part of the debate...) He/she also feels that unless one has played organized (read: not just down at University Park or in a "beer league") hockey, you don't really know what is going on with some of the finer points of the game, simply because you haven't been able to experience them firsthand. I tend to agree. I don't, however, think this means that Jane Q. Hockeyfan can't have an opinion on the game. I just think that her opinion will be based on a different set of experiences. If those experiences don't consist of firsthand knowledge of the situation (be it fighting, or whatever) I would probably give her opinion less weight than someone who does have firsthand knowledge. I know plenty of very knowledgeable fans who have never played hockey, as well as many who have played. In most cases though, I would probably tend to listen to someone who has watched AND played hockey than someone who has only watched hockey when arguing about rules or rule changes. But like I said before, in the end it is all about the $$$. As long as the NHL thinks fighting helps them make $$$ it will be a part of the game.
  16. Also, it is quite difficult to skate on paper...
  17. Parise was the first star of the game tonight with another game winning goal and Zajac was the third star with an assist. The two combined to score the only goal of the game, as Brodeur put up another shutout. Teeth or no teeth, that boy is good!
  18. Parise was second star of the game tonight with his powerplay goal being the eventual game winner
  19. I thought he turned his back to VandeVelde just before the hit...anybody have the tape of the game? Also, right after the hit, when Finley dragged the Maine player across the ice...did that player come in and kick Finley in the leg? I missed it, but my brother swore that the Maine player jumped at Finley and came down on Joe's leg with his skate. Anyone else see this?
  20. Toews' first shift after the injury occured started with a faceoff just outside of the offensive zone, right in front of the student section. Sitting with my brother, we both were commenting how it looked like he was hurt on the last shift, then when he didn't take the faceoff, we were sure. It was a quick whistle, but before the stoppage Toews had been hit into the boards and dropped his stick with one arm (left I think?). Anyway, he was taken off the ice after that. We could see him in the tunnel trying to convince the trainer to let him go back out there, so he obviously thought he could play with the injury. Hopefully that means it isn't too serious.
  21. 1st goal of season...Chorney 1st freshman goal...Forney I just hope none of our boys gets a... Sore Knee
