  1. Funny that you ask if he is academically ineligible...he has a 4.0 GPA As Wilbur posted earlier, Shane sprained his ankle at the end of practice the day before the Grafton game, Eric Fiala (another 4.0 student) was the listed starter for the game, but took a high shot during warm-ups which broke his collar bone. Kelvin was walking around during the game, so I would expect him to be back within the next couple games.
  2. I have attended four different schools in my lifetime. Every school I been to has changed their nickname from one having to do with native americans to a more "PC" name. Elementary school: Warriors...changed to Wolverines Middle school: Warriors...changed to Royals High school: Redskins...changed to "Maroon and Grey"...changed (thankfully) to Knights College: Fighting Sioux... So, based on my own personal experiences, UND will eventually change the name. I just hope that it doesn't happen any time soon... I have a lot of pride in the Fighting Sioux nickname and logo, and I am very proud to be a part of this school. As an athlete, I wore my team uniform with dignity and respect. Competing for the University of North Dakota and wearing the Fighting Sioux logo was something I took great pride in.
  3. The play on Swanson's goal (the game winner, if I remember) was offside. He came down on a 2-on-1, and the linesman missed the call. I was sitting directly in line with the blue line at the time. No question they were offside. Also, I don't know if they could have "easily won the game by a couple more goals had they converted on the powerplay." Central didn't get a call all night, until the last couple minutes when it seemed redbeard and his lackey called some make-ups. That being said, GFC didn't play that great, and WF played pretty good. They were able to wear down the Knights by rolling all four lines most of the game, and by never having kill off any penalties.
  4. UND will host the NCC Championship Cross Country Meet tomorrow, Oct. 22, at Ray Richards Golf Course in Grand Forks. The women's race begins at 11:00, with the men to follow at noon. The Sioux women will be competing for the conference title, led by Veronica Sackett and Margaret Landberg, as well as local runner Jessie Lichter. Currently, the women are ranked 25 in the nation. The men's team has had a rough season with lots of injuries, but look for some good performances from Skip Gilson, competing in his first XC season for the Sioux, and Richie Spitsberg, another local runner (East Grand Forks). Freshman Jeremey Jones, from Red River High, will also be competing. With no men's hockey or football in town this weekend, it is a good opportunity for Fighting Sioux fans to come out and support one of the non-revenue sports that is usually overshadowed by its bigger brothers. I hope to see lots of green out on the course!
  5. I have yet to see him play in person, but to me Oshie looked better than Toews in Saturday night's game... It really is hard to tell though when only watching on TV, or listening to the radio.
  6. always great to see a NCC championship trophy come home to UND
  7. I'm pretty sure the EERC still wants the site...and they should get it.
