The name Spitfires hit me yesterday, but when I looked it up, the Windsor hockey team is using that name.

You do realize that the 13 schools is football only. Other sports will be 11 schools. Yes, it will be more difficult to win conference championships, but will be that much sweeter when UND wins them.

Dave, the tradition was destroyed the day the settlement was signed. Those who have accepted it, have done so on their own timetable. Very few of us are thrilled that it happened. I was glad when the "yes" vote won, but still mourned the loss of the name. I have been a Sioux fan since I can remember and even before that. I sat in the middle of the horseshoe of the old Field House and watched Phil Jackson play BB. I went to the old barn to watch hockey. I will miss the name, but the athletes will still be playing for the University of North Dakota, my favorite school.

I find it difficult to believe that UND would be penalized by the NCAA, when it was an NCAA employee that made the mistake.

The "new UND teams" Won't UND be fielding the same teams as last year with some personnel changes? I've already made hotel reservations to head up to ND for a football game this year. Didn't make any last year, so that will be 7 more people at one game than last year

Getting back to your original post, the MVFC is a nice football conference, but is all it is, a football conference. The other Dakota teams play in the Summit, a revolving door conference, for most of their other sports. The first chance a school has to get out, they leave. The Big Sky has a stable home for most of UND's sports. Being in the Big Sky also give UND a unique identity among the other Dakota schools. July 1st can't get here soon enough. Hello Big Sky!!

Glenn Beck is on right now railing against the elitist white man (NCAA) making UND change the name. He loves the logo.

Not gonna happen. When UND accepted the invitation and USD backed out, there was a time frame for UND to pull out and not face any penalty. UND wanted in. With the nickname debacle there has been talk that the Big Sky may block UND. That obstacle is gone. IMO the only way UND leaves the Big Sky is if there is a shift in the NCAA divisions and UND wants to elevate to a higher division and the BIg Sky doesn't. But I think Fullerton wants the whole Big Sky to move that level.

I think the NCAA did a fine job of embarassing themselves.
