I would support a number of different ideas, as I have over the past seven years on this issue. Sica just came up with one recently that I kind of like...Owls. They are predatory and eat small rodents. Hmmmm, which rival has a small rodent as a mascot? Owls have a reputation as intelligent, which would go along with an instiution of higher education. There is a new research based search engine called scholr.ly. Their logo is an owl. Sense that does not make. The ones who wanted to blow up the athletic department should be the ones to put forth a new nickname?? I would think the opposite would be more appropriate. Wrong, but more appropriate.

NDSU was not going to get into the Gateway if it weren't for SDSU standing by their partner. USD wasn't going to get in until the Big Sky came calling and threatened the Summit plan. I don't believe that UND was ever going to be invited. I think a lot of arm twisting happened to get USD in. I am thankful the UND was invited to the Big Sky and didn't end up in NCC 2.0.

MVFC is just a football conference. The Summit has baseball.

I understand the part about a home for the football team and the Big Sky was a much more attractive invitation, but if Kelley and Douple were as complicit in back room conversations as some are alluding, it would seem to me that Kelley would also be working back room deals with the Douple for the Summit/MVFC. Sica has it right.... how could Kelley have been so powerful as to be directing the Summit (Douple) what to say?

Has anyone read the post over at www.sayanythingblog.com regarding Douple and Bresciani? Rob Port is trying to once again say that UND (Kelley) was complicit in getting Douple to say something against UND due to the nickname issue. It seems Bresciani gave Douple a bad report card. Douple went through the SUU president to find out who gave the bad report. What I have never understood about all of this is, if Kelley was buddy buddy with Douple and getting him to help UND get rid of the name and get UND into the Summit, why would he cancel the impending Summit visit days before it was supposed to happen and accept the Big Sky invitation? That never has made any sense to me.

I also had in the back of my mind the sentence in the Summer UND Alumni Magazine from Tim O'Keefe.... The number is actually at $268M, but there hasn't been big announcments. Hmmm.

I knew the site from the pictures on the www.spirit.und.edu website, but the first time watching the video, I thought there was going to be some big announcement. Maybe you are right and it is just that simple. I was trying transfer his garb and the fact that the video is called UND Sports Returns into a sports related announcement......... IPF.

Not that it would be horrible, but I can imagine reporters/broadcasters using the name Nodaks when calling a game. It would be better than some that I care not to imagine. Own the name you want, not the one someone who doesn't have UND's best interest at heart hanging their name for you around your neck.

It actually occurred to me yesterday after reading the piece, but didn't get around to posting it until today. Funny you should mention Owls. I was at the in-laws in Louisiana over the weekend and every night I would hear the owls "talking" in the neighboorhood. Very cool.
