It would be a pleasure to sign that one.

Thankfully Pensacola was somewhat spared this time around. We were only without electricity for 24 hours at our house. Most of metro Pensacola has had power restored, which means that Gulf Power can head west and help get AL, MS and LA back up. We are currently housing relatives that have evacuated from New Orleans and the Northshore, so obviously we watch the news 24/7, including live streamding on wwltv.com. I got a call from parents in GF this morning asking what they can do to help. The number one thing is prayer at this point, because this will be a long period of recovery. We have family all over the New Orleans area that may have lost homes, jobs, businesses. BTW Star2City, we do have gas in Pensacola in most places, but I have been told that the stations are getting nervous about the supply line. Let me know if you need anything. jlarson@lpugh.com

From todays Pensacola News Journal http://www.pensacolanewsjournal.com/apps/p.../508280335/1002 Look out for Katrina, Star2City.

Nodaks and keep the logo, as it is the original nodaks. Use Sioux as the unofficial name, as Auburn does with War Eagles.

We got electricity back on Thursday night. I left my wife in Louisiana after the evacuation and spent a few night here on just generator. Good to have the electricity back and great to have the family back.

I have to agree that there are alot of people down here that have no idea where ND is. They also don't know the accent. When I first moved here, people would try to guess where I was from. Guesses like Australia, France, Belgium lead me to believe that they have no idea where ND is. After living here for so long, I guess I have lost the ND accent, as I don't get asked anymore.

I think the results are being skewed somewhat by someone voting multiple times. I looked at the totals yesterday and again today and the results are completely different. For example, I don't think too many people really believe that the SDSU/NDSU football game is even close to the UND/Minn hockey game as far as rivalries.

I can understand how Redskins can be deemed inappropriate, but I don't understand how the use of the name Sioux is wrong. Isn't the name Dakota also a native american word? Are we supposed to also change the name of the state? How about all of the other states that have native american names? http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0854966.html I know that some of the other schools on the list use a mascot, which UND doesn't. Is the mascot the main crux of the controversy?

Another article on Kupchella. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/11730326.htm

I rarely find read a post that I laugh so hard my eyes start watering, but yours managed to do that PCM. I think that I would have to agree with Sicatoka that the writing is on the wall. Even with Kupchella in the running for the position, someone at UND is looking for his repacement now. But with a statement like he made regarding "most of what I will be able to accomplish, I have accomplised", I would think that would signal his departure, either on his own or being pushed out.

Is there anyone in the GF school system who would be a candidate for this job? <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Not trying to change the subject back, but just saw the attached link on GFH website regarding BRAC hearing in GF. http://www.grandforks.com/mld/grandforks/11687036.htm

Pensacola is taking a hit at NAS, but Whiting, Saufley and Corry were untouched and it appears as though Eglin will keep growing. The hit Pensacola took in a previous realignment, when NADEP was shut down, was far worse. The number of people moving in to re-build Pensacola is causing part of housing shortage. Housing has gone up about 25% since Ivan. Have you seen the devastation at P'cola Beach or NAS? It's going to take years to rebuild. I can't see the loss of the jobs at NAS impacting the overall housing shortages to any great degree.

I was thinking the same thing. Try and promote the assets that you have, instead of convincing someone that your deficiencies aren't so bad. I agree that the tankers are gone soon regardless. In the short term this is going to hurt GF. The loss of people is going to cause the housing values to fall, some small businesses will close and the 2010 census is going to look bad. Tough on a small city trying to recover from a devastating flood. The long term, 10-15 years out, this will be positive. More high tech jobs. I believe that UND Aerospace can be helped by the UAV's moving in. It could be a great symbiotic relationship.

I found a blurb along the same lines from last October. It appears that this has been in the works for some time. http://www.access5.aero/site_content/news/...rderPatrol.html

I agree. There are too many unanswered questions in all of this.

By the word "bad" I meant the loss of a ton of jobs by the looks of it. Obviously I'm pleased that the base will remain open. Hopefully their will be a new mission to add some jobs back.

Thanks for the links. Hopefully the "realigned" isn't as bad as it looks in the Forum.

I'm sure that I would find that I have a lot of long lost relatives.
