What is the best start a UND team has ever had?

UPN's America's Next Top Model just had it's season finale tonight. The winner, Nicole, is from Grand Forks. You can check her and her competition out here. Congratulations Nicole.

Still looking if anyone wants/needs to get rid of some tickets.

Sioux look to snap 12 game winless streak. The ladies take on Bemidji this weekend at home. Bemidji just above UND in the WCHA standings. It will be interesting to see how UND compares to BSU. Hopefully the ladies prove they are better than their 2-12-2, 0-10-2 WCHA record shows.

Friday Night: 612 Saturday Night: 876 Not bad but also could have been alot better. Considering that the women's program is so new, the athletic department really needs to be promoting it to get the fan base up and start raising financial support. As such a new program I am sure there is absolutely nothing as far as scholarship endowments yet. The Gopher series would be the best series to do this with. I am sure that UND could have gotten members of the women's team on XL93 to help with the Top 10 countdown 1 night this last week while promoting the game. I am sure it wouldn't cost the school a dime. A few years ago when I was in Minneapolis for the Final 5, the Minnesota women's team had set up a big booth in the Mall of America. It had an area where you could practice slap shots, get autographs, and buy women's hockey merchandise. There is no reason they couldn't do something similar at Columbia Mall at the beginning of the season to promote season ticket sales. (Side Note: I got my picture taken with Goldy at this and after the picture I said "GO SIOUX!" Goldy took off his glove and flipped me off! ) The only real promotion I have ever really saw for the ladies is when Coach Rivard was trying to break the highest attendance ever for a women's program in their games against Minnesota. And she was doing that by herself. If the athletic department had helped her push it I am sure it could have happened or could even still happen. Other than that I have never seen any attention put towards the women's team. While I understand that not too many people had expectations of a UND sweep this weekend it is not an excuse. This program has the potential to be the next program at UND to win it's first National Championship, and a DI championship at that. I just would like to see a bigger push by the Athletic Department and the community to support them.

I have also heard that Ferris took a guarantee both years. Apparently them taking our guarantee and paying for all of the travel makes them quite a bit more than a 1for1 deal would have made them in gate.

I have to go for NW Missouri State. Who wants to see our "new rivals" win it all?
-
My roommate and I would like to get 2 tickets for Friday nights game. Anywhere in the arena works for us.

Someone made a point to me once that really stuck. If it is all about winning National Championships, then everyone would be moving to the NAIA or DIII.
-
And the plot thickens...

It was a joke. I would just like to see more than 300 people at the game. As you pointed out this team needs to gain some tradition. Having a big weekend against the back to back National Champions will go towards building some tradition for the program. Having a good sized crowd there can only help.

You can watch a short story from wdaz about the round table on the wdaz website. You can check it out here.

I am obviously in the minority here but I just don't think that a casino being built in GF will bring all the doom and gloom that I have heard some say it will. I don't believe that Pawn shops will be on every single street corner or that drugs and alcohol will take over everyone's life. This is obviously only in very preliminary stages and nothing is even close to happening yet. I am glad that the City Council is at least willing to hear the proposal and do some preliminary talks with Turtle Mountain without just immediately shutting down the idea. Maybe I am just being too optimistic but I would like the community to also look at the potential benefits before closing down the idea on the perceived downfalls.

Has everybody picked up their tickets yet? You wouldn't want to show up to the game on Friday to find out there aren't any tickets left.
-
I would much rather see that than a guaranteed win like UMC, MSU Moorhead, or even a slightly stronger team like Bemidji. There are only so many NSIC teams that I can handle seeing on all of our schedules.

I went to the "discussion" today and I can't say it was worth my time. There were 3 speakers against the name and then Mr. Bunning. Absolutely nothing new came out of this roundtable at all. Tom had to leave halfway through the discussion so it was basically 3 people patting each other on the backs for being against the name. Never once did anyone make any points as to how the nickname and logo is "hostile" or "abusive". Tom seemed a little unsure as to what he was talking about and was very careful about his words. There were probably only 10-12 Native Americans there. You can definately tell that all 400 Native American students on campus are sure worried about this issue. The most passionate person there was a short, balding, grey haired, english professor looking man sitting next to me. I thought he was going to give himself whiplash the way his head was flying around. The only thing that came out of this meeting was that when asked if a compromise could be reached between UND and the tribes, all 3 said that they would never allow a compromise or that common ground could never be reached. And they are trying to paint name supporters as closed minded. Did anybody else go?

My stereo at my apartment is frizzing out and I can't get the game in decent. I am gonna go drive around town for a while to listen to the game. Hope it's worth my time and gas!!

Carthage College and Midwestern State capitulate
dakotadan replied to jimdahl's topic in UND Nickname
And this was all because UND uses the Sioux name? I fail to see what this has to do with our hockey team using a beautiful logo on it's jersey. Every race and culture has hardships in it's history. Making UND change it's logo is not going to erase history. -
The people that I have talked to have all seemed to think that the budget has been one of his main concerns and that he has already been working on it. Although, I have never claimed to have the inside info that others have.

Construction Beginning Construction began today at the site of the Canad. From what I gathered from the news tonight right now they are only doing preliminary work such as water lines, sewage and that sort of thing.

Yes, I am referring to the women's games this weekend. The ladies will be taking on the Gophers this weekend at 7:00 both friday and saturday nights. If you were only planning on taking in 1 or 2 women's games this season, do it this weekend. The ladies need something to kick-start the rest of their season. A big weekend against the Gophers could do that. Pick up your tickets and get out and support the ladies.
