  1. 69-69 at the end of regulation, overtime comin up next
  2. Sioux lead 58-52 with 8 minutes left
  3. 44-37 UND leading, Kimbrough already has 16 pts on the night with 16 minutes remaining in the game.
  4. Yeah it is workin for me, UND is up 34-33 at half
  5. Just saw this in the Bismarck Tribune today. Minnesota Interested in Bohl I dont know if he is a top candidate for the job but the fact a somewhat new D1-aa coach has the interest of a big ten school is quite an amazing feet in itself.
  6. Bismarck High won 5-0 Wasn't much of a game at all. They were shorthanded nearly the entire first period and still dominated every aspect of the game.
  7. Not sure if this was posted but the AHL all-star team was annonced today and both Drew Stafford and Brandon Bochenski are on the team. Bocheski is a starter. All star team
  8. I dont really think that UND and Minnesota feel "comfortable" as you put it recruiting from the NAHL. Aaron Walski was asked to walk on and will probably never play more than 1 or 2 games a year, he is more of a practice goalie. Ryan Martens who I believe is from the USHL played in 2 games in his freshman campaign. With the recruiting these major teams do from the USHL the BCHL A and B leagues, Schools like Shattuck, overseas, and the Canadian prep leagues, there is not enough room to recruit many NAHLplayers, and if they do, these players are very rarely impact players (Ben Bishop of Maine is an exception to the rule). I'm not saying they don't belong in D1, but look where these kids are being recruited to. It's not the D1 powerhouses. and won't be for a long long time, but rather the lower quality and skilled teams. There is nothing wrong with this, and often times gives the player a better opportunity to become an impact player, but one must realize that at this point in time, that is all 99% of the players will be. When players are asked to go down from the major powerhouses, they do what Qynn Fylling did and go to USHL teams, for the main reason that skills can be developed faster because the players in the league may be very young, but they are all highly skilled. As for Matt Moreland coming to UND I would put money on it that it won't happen. Heck the Mr. Hockey winner that played D for Red River that plays in the USHL is having a hard time getting on the team because of all the high end talent UND gets, and there isn't a lot of room. I would also be surprised if Wurden is any different, although at this point that is just speculation. There are a place for NAHL players, but at this point it is rarely for D1 powerhouses. Just look at the current rosters right now and that is clearly shown.
  9. OK, i'll give it to you that you didn't state directly that he was a bad player, although i believe this was your quote ""Until you can make a claim that is anywhere near realistic, please consider keeping it to yourself, that way people won't question your thought process." But when someone says he merely thinks that he should be considered one of the best players in the state, and you saying your quote as stated above, what else does that say. It may not be implying that he is terrible, but it certainly doesn't imply anthing positive. Also I will agree the gap may be closing a bit, but not very much looking at the rosters of the current D1 teams the only big contributer of my Knowledge that is making a splash is the goalie from Maine, who I believed played with the NAHL in texas. So while it may be closing it appears that when recruiting from juniors most college coaches still feel that the USHL is the better of the two leagues. As stated in one of my above posts I said only the USHL or D1, I didn't include NAHL, and as you listed above the number in the USHL or D1 is 5 and no more. And as stated previously he was on a select team and played midgets last year, and is being recruited by the bobcats i believe. This means that he is in the same category skill wise as most of the players last year and even the mr. hockey winner because they will probably all wind up in the same league. I will agree you didn't say he was bad, but just because you didn't say it, doesn't mean that the quote i had from you earlier, doesn't imply it am i right?
  10. The only point I was trying to make with the USHL comment was not to start an East vs. West thing but just make the statement that, to be considered one of the best highschool hockey players in ND doesn't mean you'll play at the next level, that is all. ND Hockey is not like Minnesota hockey with top end talent plain and simple. In Minnesota all top-end talent is either in the USHL or playing D1 hockey, in ND by looking at the previous years, that just isn't the case. Out of all the arguments from last years Mr. Hockey, some aren't playin any more, some are playing D3, some are in the NAHL etc. The level of competition out west is not near as great, I will be the first to admit that, but that doesn't mean the level of talent for top end players is less because of that alone.
  11. This is the kind of stuff that I usually don't respond to, but I'll make an exception to this. There are a lot of people posting on here that think the only two teams that have good players in the state are Fargo South and Red River, and that there are no good players anywhere else in the state, and if you dont agree with this then it is not a realistic claim, maybe that was just UNDhockey22. Let me ask you this UNDhockey22, how many players from last year play either D1 hockey or currently play in the USHL from the state of North Dakota? I would be surprised if the number is greater than 5. Some people are only saying that he should be considered one of the top players in the state, not that he is the best player. The bottom line is only a very few handful of players play beyond highschool. On top of it I doubt anyone in here has seen him play yet, how can you critique a players skills without seeing him play? All some of us want in here is to please think before you post. Yes, you can post whatever it is you want but remember UNDhockey22 your claim that he is bad because he is on a bad team is one of the most unrealistic claims i have personally ever heard in this forum, so maybe the advice you gave to another poster about his unrealistic claim should be considered when you post as well. This is nothing personally, but until you see someone play it is not really possible to critique how good they are, and if you know how to do that you know something that no other scout in the world does.
  12. In case anyone missed parise's spin move goal from last night here it is Spin move On a side note, Parise has 16 goals and 16 assists this year for 32 points, matching his point total from last year in half the games. Him and Zajac are also leading the team in +/- on the team with hale in 5th, not bad for the boys from UND huh.
  13. Was it Jan Zahrly or Dr. Tarlin, cause i just had both of them last semester when i graduated
  14. Just found a good article on toews on ESPN Jonathan Toews
  15. Lol well his career finished with him listed as a senior, so thats good enough for me! but damn he was fun to watch
  16. Those two are great players, as well as guys like Prpich, or mitch vig from the 97 championship team. But these players also benefit from the two year NHL'ers as well. Would duncan have this many points if he didn't benefit from being on a line with toews and or oshie? Probably not, these guys are always the focus of other teams which opens up the rest of the ice for other players. Two notable four year guys were Lee Goren and Jason Ulmer, I would take those four year players all day, but for the most part guys who put up those point totals even now are offered pro contracts, so would they be four year players on this team? Who knows
  17. Can we have Jordan back now please lol. He has a 5-4 record with a 2.75 GAA and a .920 save percentage with the lowell devils. Everyone said he wasn't deserving, but now that he is gone and its all lammy's look where were at. Both goalies aren't playin great, Phil may have more potential but he only has 3 semesesters left, we need more than potential from him now. If he doesn't step it up soon, play grieco the rest of the way to get him more experience since he is only a freshman. Just my 2 cents
  18. my bad lol I guess UND should of made me take a reading class beforei graduate on friday
  19. I know this is not a UND athlete but I felt like it may be of interest to people on this board. As much as I hate him, get well soon. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=2695193
  20. While I agree that it was a classless act that shouldn't of happened, I can understand where she was coming from. A coach, if doing well, gets a lot of the glory, and if doing poorly, shoulders a lot of the blame. I never met Rivard but will assume she is a nice person, but she absolutely destroyed this program. I was worried about the direction of the program ever since she lost control of the team when Jessica was still there. The first thing I thought of was "What did Rivard do to piss off an entire team?" I don't think a coach loses control of a team for small petty reasons. These girls want to be competitive and when they are regressing year after year while getting good recruits it is the coaches fault. Even after that class left and it was all youngsters they still got worse. I also heard rumors though that Rivard didn't have a lot of respect for some of her players and favored some well letting others go. I know one of the big things was when I believe it was either last year or the year before she dropped the senior goalie from the team for being late to practice once, and this was on senior day when her parents had flown in, and in front of the entire team. Some may say you deserve this for being late, I view it as a bit extreme. To add something to it, other girls were always late while receiving no punishment. When you drop someone for personality reasons that some of the girls on the team like, and the team is getting worse already, there will be backlash. When a coach doesn't know the basics of coaching it shows on the ice I give her credit for starting the program, but thats it. As a head coach you are the "manager" of the team, and it is quite obvious she failed at that. Good luck to her, and hopefully this programs will find the right person and get back on track.
  21. I couldn't say it any better myself, although I don't view the defense to be as a big of a problem as the role players not stepping up. The biggest problem is the goalie situation in my opinion. I read in a thread somewhere that someone stated that in 31 games they have no seen lammy win a game or lose a game, which is the biggest problem. How many times last year did parise bail out UND with key saves, he is the reason the sioux got so far, and now that he is gone it is becoming quite obvious. Lammy often takes bad angles at the puck, and if he doesn't he doesn't come out far enough to challenge the shooter and his small frame doesn't allow him to cover as much of the net. A goalie is the top Penalty Killer as well and that was what parise gave us, and that Lammy isn't. He was brought in to be a number one goalie for the Sioux but has never taken the job when it was in front of him. My view is if you have two guys who are playing along the same level, play the younger guy and let him get expierence. This may not be true in the postseason, but with him in net, I dont know if the postseason will even be an option. Very nice post though Cujo2!!!!
  22. When your killing only 75% of your penalties and have 2 struggling goalies what do you think is going to happen. Do you think it's a coincidence that at the same time we lose brad berry the penalty kill start struggling, and the defense isn't as strong? He coached both of those and now he is gone, that was the big loss. Lammy is playing the way he usually does this year, taking bad angles at the puck and giving bad rebounds, but the defense isn't helping him any at all. The teams two big scorers are in somewhat of a sophomore slump this year which can happen and we lost two main pieces. It is not all hackstols fault for the team, put blame on the players as well. Teams don't go to the frozen four and ranked in the top ten year after year, but your probably too young to remember the early and mid nineties. Berry, stafford, and zajac leavin killed this team for the year and it will take a lot to make up for that, but don't go callin for the coaches head. He coached 2 years and gave you 2 frozen four appearances, what more does he have to do for you to earn the respect?
  23. each team has thrown one interception
  24. st. mary's did have a team in the 1970's bu couldn't retain it for numerous reasons. Most st. mary's hockey players go to BHS to play hockey, been like that for over 2 decades already and i dont see it changeing any time soon
  25. I'm sorry if you were insulted UND sports fan, maybe if i clarify you'll understand more of where i am coming from. First of all her father is 100% sioux, and when i was talking about the reservation stuff, those were words coming from his mouth, i was just restating them to make a point. I however will not apologize for how i feel about the money. Did I have it easier than some people that grew up on a reservation, most likely, but does that make it wrong for me to feel bothered when i have experienced many people including my ex-fiances friends waste that money every month on drugs and alcohol and do nothing with there lives? I am by no means insinuating the entire tribe is like that at all, I also know many sioux who go to college, work hard, and try to make something with there lives. But the reality is, when I see a few people get free handouts every month, throw it away for no reason, and then complain it makes me mad and for that i will not apologize. As to the nickname I dont hate it or love it, to me its a school nickname plain and simple, I just want to change in on UND's terms and not the NCAA. Everyone has personal experiences that effect there outlook on things. In a perfect world this stuff wouldn't happen, in the real world compromises must be made. What those compromises are I dont know, will a change of the nickname improve conditions I dont know. Also I assumed all tribes got free checks, it may be just certain ones. I know many people who get $600 a month and some of these people are only 1/6th native american. I assumed wrong, and if i offended you cause of that I apologize. Also the free college comes in forms of many grants, scholarship funds specifically for tribes, and many other sources. It is not a direct free ride but often times is greatly discounted. As well, percentage wise we know the rates are higher, and that is something that I would like to see changed, because i saw to many young people in the time i was around her commit suicide not to be taken aback by it. I feel it is a serious problem, unfortunately its one that is also hard to tackle because of the seriousness of the nature
