  1. I used to be engaged to someone who was native american, so i was around when her family was discussing these sort of things. I was almost shocked when i heard them talkin, because they were just rippin on the reservations in North Dakota because of a lot of the reasons you listed above. Let me remind you they were 100% indian as well. I sat down with her father and had a talk with him, he was sayin how he gets so annoyed about the racism card they keep throwing when there are so many other things to worry about. The main one he pointed out that hasn't been discussed yet is the suicide rate, it is much much higher on the reservations, and can be directly tied to alcoholism, poverty, and unemployment, which can lead to crime. The big reason why I don't feel bad the nickname is, each Native American gets $600 a month just for being Native american, heck if your 1/6th native american you get that much. This gets a lot of people bent out of shape about things like this. I understand the history what happend over 100 years ago, and there is nothing we can really do about it. The reservation and tribal college leaders need to focus on the problem and stop making excuses, because i am wondering what they would do if they didn't have the nickname issue to care about? Focus on the alcohol problem, get more jobs i know the $1.8 million contract the sioux got from the government for military materials to build which is great. Fix poverty and crime, and that will lower the suicide rate for the young people on the reservations. UND is doing its part by offering so many American Indian programs and "FREE COLLEGE", so TRIBAL LEADERS i am calling you out, do something to fix the problem on your end, cause if this keeps going on people like me who are finishin college in 4 weeks and are gonna pay of $30,000 in student loans are gonna get even more worked up about it because nothin is enough. Don't fix what isn't broken here at UND, fix whats broken on the reservations, they need you a lot more!

    lamoreaux

An important thing to remember is how much your team scores for you as well. We can debate why this is all day long, but the team is average 4.5 goals per game for Grieco and only 3 goals per game for lamoreaux. The goalies have no control over this but it is something to take into consideration. I am in disagreement about the goalie situation, there is a goalie controversy because Grieco hasn't lost in 4 games. That being said there is only a controversy because lamoreaux is letting there be one. It is the same problem that had him lose his playing time to parise the last two years, it doesn't matter if a goalie can steal one game if he lets in 6 goals the next game. Everyone knows that Lammy hasn't been himself this year and it is kinda curious why, his numbers have dropped off, and there is a controversy because a save percentage of .899 is unacceptable and needs improvement. It is still lammy's job for now but if grieco keeps on winning and playing well on a consistent basis like he did against st. cloud then it'll be intersting to see what happens. I think parise said it best with his quote last year during the season when he said " if you see me make a spectacular diving save, its because i was out of position." I feel that applies here, and lammy has been making way to many of those lately, there great to see but when your a smalller goalie like lammy is positioning is even more important because you have more space to cover.
  3. big congratulations to weston dressler on his 12th TD reception of the year and his 20th of his career. With 2 more he will break Dan Graff's record of 21, and 12 in a season is a new single season record for the sioux as well. Ryan Chappel is also 203 yards short of 1000 yards on the season, if he makes this feat, he would break Phillip Moore's Record of 953 rushing yards as a freshman and the first freshman with a 1,000 yard season. So congrats to both!
  4. wow he must be pretty close to 1000 yards on the season, when was the last time a freshman did that?
  5. any stats for the days of chappel and dressler?
  6. If Star2City is right about the Big Sky as he was about this, then it would take care of football as well and we wouldn't have to worry about the possibility of a Gateway Conference for just football.
  7. One of the bronco's offensive lineman was injured last week, so he may get a chance to start in the next couple of weeks. Here is the article to read.kuper
  8. I was foolin around on my space and found a new version, maybe even a spin off of red seal peach lol. krooshul tawnt From the looks of it, its stafford and phil, but not quite sure
  9. I also know that Luke Senger of Bismarck High (defense), is being recruted by a few D1-A teams, among others Nebraska and Minnesota
  10. actually it was reported today in the dakota student that UND is now number 8 in the nation in entrepreneurship, in a magazine that will be released later this month, up 6 spots from number 14
  11. Yes he is, just ineligible for football
  12. Yeah, he didn't make grades last year, so he will not be on the team until he picks them up. That is why he is not on this years roster.
  13. I have often been ridiculed but I feel the exact same way. When he's hot there is no one else I would rather have in net, hopefully the streakiness goes away, and the consistency shows with more confidence in being the number 1 guy. I guess we'll just have to wait and see
  14. NDSU: North Star A nice article on NDSU's new conference membership and basketball team, looks like last year gave the team a lot of credibility.
  15. This is just another example of what society has come too. At what point should political correctness stop? At what point do we say it has gone too far? We blame killings on music and video games, we're taught to avoid confrontation so as not to make anyone mad. and now we're suppose to try and make everyone happy. I for one am sick of trying to please everyone in this world, if someone doesn't like it who cares, if a whole group of people don't like it then lets talk about it, but only if its that group of people. I for one don't really care if some white person out in California (Phil Jackson) is offended by a nickname, especially when he's not native american or a sioux. Theres got to be a line drawn somewhere.
  16. Sioux Goo, I personally have nothing against your information in an economic sense, as i have expected a bigger debt this year, and the next 4 or 5 years. The thing I dont agree with is the reasonings behind the deficit came across as very unknowledgeable and therefor made your inside info hard to believe, but yes you are correct about the debt. Although I hardly doubt that the 5-10% raises for 5-10 people is the reason for the debt. Most colleges accept the fact that their athletic departments will almost always lose money year after year, which is often times and especially on here looked at way to much. look at minnesota They have roughly a $50 million athletic budget, and they are roughly $50 million in the whole, so should minnesota drop athletics. Absolutely not, because while that is a lot of money to lose, athletics is a big reason many students go to a college, and is an excellent way to not only represent a school, but also advertise what a school has to offer. How can a school such as this support a debt like that? Well 45 to 50,000 students each pay tuition, they make hundreds of millions of dollars off research, theres alumni donors, state money, etc... My point is yes it would be nice to turn a profit but i would estimate that only the top 2-3% of college athletic departments even break even. Also UND has $9 million left of a donation to use as it see fits, which was said in the dakota student would go mostly towards scholarships, and what a coincidence, in the next 5 years scholarships will increase by quite a bit. Trust me, a University this size would not jump into something without figuring out the budget. If they know they wont pull even, but will be under $1 million a year in debt, they may not think its a big deal if the University can make up for it, which by the expansion around campus obviously appears that it can. Folks, don't get pulled into the small scheme of things, in the bigger picture the deficit is by no means a huge deal, and will be overcome.
  17. From my understanding of the law, if he is found innocent of the federal charge, he can still be tried at the state level in ND and MN if both states want to. He could not be tried at the federal level again because he was already found innocent, but since both ND and MN dont have the death penalty the worse he could get would be life in prison with no paroll, thats why the defense attorney is pushing the death before transit argument so much, because if he didn't commit the crime across state lines the case is no longer that of a federal case. This is my understanding of it, but feel free to correct me if i am wrong.
  18. Rumor has it that the previous owner at one time was a huge supporter of UND hockey, late last year he had a falling out with REA and the alumni association over something (not quite sure what). At that point he stopped doing the dagwoods bus to the games, and has since sold the restaraunt.
  19. I laugh at how no one brings up the fact that last year for the first time ever Mr. Lennon got i believe it was a 6 year contract worth more than $100,000 a year. There are probably built in bonuses and things to that, before that he was only given one year contracts every year like every other coach at UND. Also do any of you know the amount of work it will take to go D1, paperwork, conference affiliation, scheduling, and thats just the beginning of it. Tom Bunning knows what he is doing more than most people on this bored including myself, give the man credit for what he has accompolished thus far. As for the 850,000 in the red which is a projected budget, there is increases in the cost of recruiting already because the new mens head basketball coach has been traveling all summer, and this is the same with other sports. Anyone who is surprised by the budget shortfall already, really shouldn't even comment on this because a lot of people knew it was coming. The budget shortfall is not the AD's fault, if this topic wants to be discussed fine but dont just immediately call for peoples heads and expect anyone to take you seriously, because in the end it just shows your lack of knowledge.
  20. Does anyone think that Jordy might get an offer from Colorado?
  21. yes i am fully aware that i have said those. What I am saying is that I feel a lot of people don't like Jordy because these people went to school with Phil, knew the family, or had ties for what ever reason. A lot of these people I am talking about are in their early 20's now, but you must of read the later part of my post when i specifically said i wasn't sure if any posters on this board felt the same way, I specifcally pointed out students because those were the only ones i knew of. Also I do wish Lammy the best of luck next year, i genuinelly hope that he becomes more consistent and would be thrilled if he was the go to guy. I just dont think its right to not like someone on the team because the backup was a GF boy and therefor hold a grudge against the other guy for something he can't control. Sadly enough local pride can get in the way sometimes.
  22. I mentioned the resentment for a few reasons. I have heard many people over the past couple years say that Lammy stood on his head in highschool, he is better technically and that parise doesn't have what it takes for some reason. It just seems to me that people think Lammy is better than parise because they know him better, because they grew up with him, and have seen his potential throughout the years, almost as if he should be the starter because of the local sentiment. i have even often asked these people why Lammy should start all the time, when Parise is playing the way he is. The answer is the same every time followed by a question they ask me "He lets in weak goals but he always wins because the team scores more for him, why dont they score like that for Lammy?" Well if ya think about that question a bit, the answer about why Parise plays more is apparent. If a goalie is putting up better numbers, and the team plays better for him, why switch? Maybe the conclusion I came to was wrong, but it seems that put are letting local sentiment get in the way of supporting a great goalie that we will be missing next year. I could be wrong, but in 2 years I have yet to year any other logical reason. As for an example of this on the thread I dont have the time to dig through posts and look, but I have gone to this university for 4 years, and know a lot of students our age who feel that way, and its always made me wonder why. Whether any posters on this message bored feel the same way or not, I dont know, but from hearing it first hand, this was the explanation I have come up with.
  23. It's funny how people only blame the goalie for that loss, its even more naive and stupid that someone has a bad game and all of a sudden he doesn't have to game for the NHL. If I remember correctly the defense had one of the worst games of the season, but some how that goes unnoticed. Looking at parise numbers wise his GAA of 2.20 was only .02 higher than goehrings best year of 2.18, while parise had seasons of 2.09 and 2.13, adavntage parise. Winning % Goehring's best was a.724 and worst was .679, parises were a high of .738, and a low of .685, once again slight advantage to parise. Goehring went to two straight national championship games and went 1-1, parise went to two straight final fours losing in the semifinals and in the championship game, advantage Goehring but only slightly. I say only slighty because anyone who remember those teams Goehring played on remembers that they were much more dominant and better overall than the teams Parise played for, in parise championship runner up year, it was a senior led team that didn't have a lot of overall talent, followed by a team full of inexperienced freshman. There were no panzers or roche's. I for one feel Parise's accompolishments were even more impressive after looking at that, the goalie shouldn't get all the credit for a championship, and he shouldn't also get all the blame for a loss. The problem i sense here is that Lammy is a local boy, and their is a lot of resentment that he isn't the number one goalie on the team. Even if Parise gets signed it will be awhile before he plays. Heck look at ryan miller in buffalo, he was the Hobey Baker winner that beat out panzer, and it took him almost 4-5 years to be the number one goalie. It takes longer for goalies to adjust to the pro game usually, but in about 5 years, Parise will be in the mix, because he has the size and the technical aspects of the position down pat.
  24. No, I feel he is one of the most talked about goalies in college hockey today, he made a name for himself in being able to play in the big games 2 years ago when he carried us to the Championship game. You can't expect a goalie to do it all by himself when the defense played the way they did against B.C. Look at his numbers, he beat Karl's number by over a tenth of a point in GAA. Having a GAA under or around 2.10 for a career average is almost unheard of these days, and he also had a great winning percentage. If we would of won an NCAA championship either of the last 2 seasons, he would most likely be regarded as the best goalie UND has ever had. It is also the best time for him to sign because he has the option of going back to school which will help him in these contract negotiations. You can always finish school later, but the option of going to the NHL doesn't have a long time table, so if they say now is the time, he must go. I can only hope one of our other 3 goalies will step up next year to replace him, because i dont think the team will automatically give lammy the nod, he'll have to earn his spot.
