Some grade A chances for UND, that Raty just deals with. UND the better team right now.
-
Killed a penalty. Still getting chances.

Good start for the women. Although they're down 1-0, they are playing loose. Raty just making some saves.
-
UND holding their own. Carrying the play a bit.
-
Awful turnover 1-0 Minnesota.
-
Would have loved it to be Mike Commodore, but I suppose Pattyn would do.

This is where I believe the officials made the game chippy. By calling it a major contact to the head penalty, Tech was out for blood the rest of the game. I don't blame them, I would be too. If one of their d men lights up Kristo and ends his season and the officials call it a hit to the head without me seeing a replay I'm not going to take it easy on Tech in the corners.

Prayers to Mr. Johnstone. Very thankful nothing head related. Gosh, had it been a dirty hit we're talking career ending injury.....yikes....

So now it makes sense.....

Believe that is for Nate, his first name. I'm surprised he isn't drafted. Heavy shot, smart on the ice, works very well on the power play with the top guys. But thats probably a good thing for Minnesota as he could be a four year guy for them.

Given, hockey is an extremely tough sport to officiate......I wouldn't want to do it.......Glad there are guys that want to do it. Hockey is much the same as a lot of other sports when it comes to officiating.....grey area......And with the different leagues comes different approaches with what is and isn't allowed. No, I couldn't do a better job than these guys, but where the problems arise is with the consistency. I'll use Nate Schmidt as an example. Great physical defenseman that isn't cheap/dirty/whatever. Does he get a five and tossed for that hit? Seems like certain individuals are singled out. Seems like the type of penalty you're getting depends on the name on the back of your jersey.

Guy got hurt. Not good. Never want to see a guy carried off. At the same time the video of the hit should be shown to young defensemen everywhere. Perfect open ice hit on a guy. Didn't jump into him, wasn't charging because he didn't stride into him, kept his elbow tucked and met him shoulder to shoulder so it created minimal chance for any type of contact to the head. Its not easy to officiate a game with the pace of hockey. They need to review hits like this so they can come up with a lame two minute charging call or something like that instead of sending a guy down the runway when all he did was make a clean play where unfortunately a player was hurt.

Brad posted a link on his blog where you can watch it online. If that helps?

Don't know if there is such thing as a Sioux friendly bar down in gooferville. Any Joe Sensor's normally would have it on one of the big screens. Bloomington's I know always does.

Wow, can't believe that I'm still alive...... Knight.
-
Best of luck to the ladies today. Regardless they'll have to play Minnesota at Ridder arena if they want to win a national championship. Maybe Raty plays like a human today. Just maybe.

Will be a point of discussion all day, but I'm thinking Hak goes with Zane. Best thing for a goalie after shaky play is to get back into the net. At the same time, when you're playing for playoff position and the NCAA tourney, you can't have subpar goaltending show its ugly head at this time of the year. And as a former goalie, crap like that stays with you.... I'll trust Hak's decision tonight.

Thought I'd add another game DQ to Mr. Petan. Rule 45 - Contact to the Head 45.1 Contact to the Head - A player shall not make direct contact from any direction with an opposing player’s head or neck area in any manner (including, but not limited to, with the shoulder, stick, elbow, etc.). PENALTY—Major and game misconduct or disqualification at the discretion of the referee.
-
Looked some things up in the NCAA rulebook this morning.... A player shall not taunt an official. PENALTY—Misconduct, game misconduct or disqualification, at the discretion of the referee. Fighting or Punching - A player shall not fight an opponent or participate in a fight, on or off the playing surface. A punch thrown may be considered fighting. PENALTY—Disqualification. Guess the fighting one is unclear because it doesn't say anything about two deliberate punches right in front of the official.

That Petan sequence should be shown to youth hockey players....what not to do. Its already been said, but my favorite part is when Knight retaliates, and he acts like he got shot....lays down, but through divine intervention is able regain his health and gets two sucker punches in on Kristo. And if that wasn't enough......the action towards the official? Yeah, it wasn't good last night, but it was a linesman escorting him off.....not one of the head guys. How does the WCHA let him play tonight?
-
They review goals.....why don't the review possible five minute penalties? Its a pretty big call wouldn't you say? I went over to USCHO last night to do some stat checking, and visited the forum, and of course the Tech fans were outraged because UND took a run at one of their top forwards with a blatant elbow to the head.......I think their radio guy might not have seen a replay.
-
May have figured the top unit out......if it isn't going to be Rocco, I guess whomever gets Kristo going is fine by me. Can't believe that Drake has gone from being a regular to a bubble guy. What on earth happened to Senkbeil? Wasn't out of the lineup for months, and now we haven't seen him since......ummm.....anyone? I one hundred percent agree with your thoughts on a national championship for this team. Just don't see it happening. I mean Zane goes from being the defensive player of the week to letting in cheapies from the corners and the redline? Rocco can't score to save his life? Mac gets tossed for checking....Its just not adding up. But my wife would tell you I'm always wrong....so maybe.

Tech was feisty in the corners. Absolutely tough to play against in the tough areas. Won a ton of battles and played with a lot of grit. It'll be the same tomorrow night. Hak always uses the term battle level. Well, it needs to go up.....thats for sure.

Thoughts...... ~Tonight the inconsistency was in the net. A win is a win.....but Zane made it interesting. ~Tough to play 40 plus minutes with only five defensemen. ~Puck luck edge to UND....two Tech posts in the third were the difference. ~Rocco has got to find a way to score. So many grade A chances, but just can't put it home. Never be upset about a win. Never.
