I wouldn't say the Sioux missed out on him either. Only going to be a senior in high school, and I'd say he has at least two more years of junior hockey ahead of him either in Minot or Fargo. Kind of surprised he already gave a verbal.

This Rask fellow is making me forget about Tim Thomas......playing very well for the B's. Who does everyone have in OT? I'll take Pittsburgh.
-
Thought for sure that Mason Morelli was going to play at UND. He is only going to be a senior in high school next year so that could change.

In a softball tournament I was playing in a few years back the pitcher our team was playing had the hockey helmet going. Of course he got crap all game long, but nothing really over the top. After the game I got to talking to him, and he was actually required by his doctor to wear the helmet after the full facial reconstruction surgery that he had undergone from taking a line drive off the melon the year before. Its sad too that there are still guys out there that intentionally try and hit the pitcher every time they come up. I haven't heard of an individual dying on the softball field because of this, but it will happen.

Not sure about UND making the playoffs this year, due in part to freshman QB either way you look at it. I think both are capable young men, and it will be helpful that those tough games are at home, but I think we'll see some bumps in the road that come with the learning process this year. Lets run through the schedule quick: Valpo-Win SDSU-Meh....We'll say win Montana-Toss up.....but I'll put green goggles on Montana State-Loss Idaho State-Win EWU-Loss Sac State-Win Portland State-Toss up..... NAU-Loss UNC-Win Davis-Win Not a playoff expert whatsoever when it comes to what it takes. Does 8-3 or 7-4 get them into the postseason? I'm just hoping the defense doesn't get bombed again this season.....I'd like to see tackles made.....

I see Cary getting a college job in the near future. Wherever he has been a head coach he's had a lot of success. Just looking over the article its amazing what he did with that Sioux Falls group that didn't have a lot of success last year. It'd be interesting to hear from his former or current players what makes Cary so successful.

Just one sandbag.....thats all I ask.....just one......nope.....
-
You mean to tell me that some of these guys wouldn't even fill sandbags for the community that housed and fed them, and paid their tuition? I'm guessing none of the fab four left with degrees.

Yeah, Johnson's stock has seemed to drop a bit. Get him into the weight room with Poolman, put some muscle on, and prove those analysts wrong.
-
I agree. Maybe it could be that the best players are leaving to play in junior leagues or AAA midget hockey. Lots of options out there other than the 20 game high school season.

Believe it was 2002. In 2003 I think is when they just had their way with the state tournament. http://www.gfparks.org/ndaha/

Hmmm....I thought Kasey was the goalie and Matt was a forward for that team? Matt was younger right? Double checked with a Central grad buddy of mine and he says it was 2003 or 2004. Kasey was a senior, and Matt was a Junior. Are they not brothers?
-
What year was the year they didn't get scored on at state and steamrolled everybody? Moreland brothers were on the squad, Mario Lamoureax was a young pup playing for them. That was a good team.
-
Who will be younger than LaDue....... I could see a LaDue-Simpson pairing. Both have great hockey sense, and I think could be a shut down pair. Wouldn't do it with physicality, but just taking away space, and gap control.
-
Even when he was at Central all the coaches around the state knew he was going to be special. Just watching him with the puck. Poise, patience, tremendous hands, and great footwork at the blue line. Could have easily been gone his junior year, but stayed around and played on one of the better teams in North Dakota history. I think he contributes on the powerplay right away. Could very well be the best defenseman UND has next season.

It almost seemed like they just flat out gave up with trying to make it a decent broadcast. Lets just take a guy that is a horrible play by play guy to begin with and let him do a sport he has no clue about. This could mean the return of Sweeney to the Ralph doing the play by play at state hockey. Forum communications bought the rights.
-
I'm happy that NBC lost the high school tournaments. Talk about terrible broadcasting. They can do a horrible job of covering every NDSU football game forever and ever amen. But they owe me an apology for the state hockey tournament this year. And the rest of the folks that have either or attended or watched the past X number of years.

Can't have too much depth. I don't care if kids get up and leave because they aren't dressing every night. UND can't have a situation like we did 2011-2012. I wouldn't mind having 8 defensemen. That way if you have a guy that is dinged a little bit you can give him some time to get healthy knowing you have seven other bodies capable of doing the job.
-
I researched a little bit. Goes back to the 2003 season. But only a single assist. Fylling (Minot) from Schneider (Grand Forks) Still looking for a second assist from a North Dakotan goal.
-
Great pick up for UND on the back end. All those North Dakotans and Minnesotans on the team in the near future....wow... Trivia question that I don't know the answer to: ~When was the last time a goal was scored by UND by a North Dakotan that was assisted by two other North Dakotans?
-
I know Phil Lamoureax would have stopped the second Chicago goal tonight. To me that makes him NHL quality... Unless Nate Gerbe was shooting. Then probably not........
-
Glad that they brought in a #3 that will compete for the job right away. Played a ton of minutes last year, and a ton of games. From watching the highlight package he has decent rebound control, but kind of flops around a bit. Nice to have three options in net.
-
I think it shows a couple of things. First of all how tough it is to play at an NHL capable level at the goaltender position. Secondly, how blessed we have been to watch NHL capable players play in front of us over the years (Toews, Oshie, Parise, Zajac). Of all the starting NHL goaltenders in the playoffs right now, how many played college hockey? Off the top of my head, you've got Howard from Maine, Elliott from Bucky, Quick from Umass. Who am I missing? Seems like the best goaltenders in the world come from Canada or come from overseas, and typically they play their junior hockey up in Canada. And then the best ones from the United States like Campbell or Gibson head up to Canada nowadays.
-
I for one thought Phil Lamoureax would work his way to the NHL at some point in time during his career. Talk about a hard working goaltender. Still is playing in the Austrian League. Almost had a chance with the Sabres, but at this point in time its looking like an overseas career for him. Can't say that right now I see an NHL future for either Gothberg or Saunders. But I say this as I'm typing on a computer sitting in my living room as my two year old screams because he's ticked off that its bed time.

If the Wild win the Stanley Cup with Josh Harding in the net they've got another hockey movie for hollywood.
