  1. It's clearly from behind which makes it dirty. It is also low which makes it low and from behind which is against the rules and should have been flagged. This type of block happens all the time and in most cases no major injury occurs. I certainly don't think he intended to injure (though I played with some that did intend to injure opposing players) but it is a result of playing somewhat reckless football which I think most would agree we want guys to play on the edge without crossing it which is almost impossible to do.
  2. I personally would like to see one of the other QB's play. I just don't think studsrud is ready.
  3. Reyes would likely be an OLB for NDSU
  4. By rule the block was a penalty. Pretty much any neutral party would call the hit dirty but that certainly doesn't mean he intended to injure.
  5. Nothing, not sure why it got some panties in a bunch. Granted I don't think shutting down UND's offense makes you good or great but NDSU certainly was the far better team.
  6. Both, but some of the offensive issues are philosophy related. I am sure UND could manufacture more yardage and points with a more aggressive offense even with the talent level as it is. The problem is it wouldn't likely keep the clock moving or sustain drives which obviously the current offense isn't doing either.
  7. I thought the UND defense had some rough spots with tackling yesterday. Some of that can be attributed to good players on the other team.
  8. Except without George who would run the jet sweep. In the first half the sacks and inaccurate passing hurt us worse then the poor ground game.
  9. It also allows for a run threat at the WR position.
  10. Not going to defend the OL because they were not very good and the entire offense has a lot of problems to fix. 1. Line play needs to improve, pass blocking generally shouldn't be that difficult. 2. RB need to take what blocked before trying to get cute and make a bunch of cuts. Yes, I think two of the freshman RB's left yards on the field almost every time they touched the ball and the other one did not. 3. WR need to get some separation and some of this is likely play calling related 4. QB play is pretty poor at this point. He is young and the game may slow down for him at some point but his reads need to be quicker and you can't stare down a WR before you throw the ball to him. I would like to see UND just have him make a quick look at maybe 2 WR's and if it isn't available take off and run and use some of his athleticism. Until he gets more comfortable he just looks like a sitting duck in the pocket. If he gets hurt it isn't like it will be a huge drop off to the next QB so he should be cut loose to make plays running the ball. Watching Wentz quickly go though his progression and then take off running if it isn't open is pretty remarkable to watch. Outside off a quick sack the guy keeps the offense moving forward on basically every play. Throwing accuracy has been an issue in every game so far this year, even some completions the ball is off the mark and WR's have to dive for ball and they can't catch and run. 5. I think the play calling needs to improve but to me this is really the most difficult area because when you game plan fails due to execution issues of you are overmatched. What can you really do? Running a spread offense isn't a solution because it completely goes against philosophy in relation to controlling the clock. We would be better off switching to a wing T or some other run based offense.
  11. Dude, low and from behind is extremely dirty!
  12. Well a big chunk of D1 hockey isn't all that impressive. UND just happens to be one of the good schools, but comparing hockey and football is really foolish.
  13. It's almost amazing how flat out wrong you are about almost everything in this post!
  14. Something I noticed yesterday was Will Ratelle having to scramble around to get everyone lined up properly on defense. I think that says a lot of good things about him but I also think it's got to be hard to line everyone up then get to his alignment right before or as the ball is snapped.
  15. Yeah, USD ran all over them and they got Drake to turn the ball over a few times. UND needs to do both of those things better.
  16. I guess I don't know what you should call when you line isn't blocking well in the run game. Your QB either takes a sack when he drops back or throws very inaccurate passes (incomplete). Two of the RB's were not hitting the hole that was blocked. The WR rarely if ever got separation yesterday. The offense needs to improve dramatically everywhere and after the first 2 drives yesterday I probably wouldn't have called another pass play because it was either a sack with OL, QB, and the coordinator responsible or a wild pass that had no chance to be complete. The only play yesterday that looks pretty consistent was the toss play that I would need to go back and take a look but I think was zone blocked. Almost every time is was blocked for 2 to 5 yards for any RB that would get up field quickly. Oliveira was the best RB yesterday and has a lot of improvements to make but he always gets a yard or two once contact is made past the LOS.
  17. Yesterday early in the second quarter I was thinking UND should just try to three straight run plays and punt or maybe get a first but the passing offense was so bad yesterday it hurt the chances of any first downs. basically I saw a run for no gain to 3 or 4 yards and the next play was a sack we would end up punting and giving the bison a short field. The defense really doesn't have a chance when games play out like they did yesterday. Studsrud has a long way to go as a college QB. I thought the selling point for him was his athleticism so he could run if needed when the play wasn't open. I really don't see any of that from him at this point and I know Wentz is crazy good but if you watch him, he drops back, goes quickly through his progression and if the play isn't open he is decisive and takes off. I think being able to quickly decide where to go with the ball or just tuck it and run is really going to help the offense, let's hope Studsrud gets to that point soon. I am not going to make the claim that the O line played well but I think both Santiago and Smith left yards on the field yesterday. I think they need to get upfield quicker and take the 2 to 3 yards that are blocked before trying to make a move. 3rd and 5 is a heck of a lot better than 3rd and 10 or 15. This offense really can't afford any negative plays or missing what should be pretty easy 5 to 10 yard completions. The talent gap was very obvious yesterday but I don't think UND is that far away from catching up but if the offense can't start to at least get a few first downs the defense is screwed because you can't consistently be put in terrible field position and expect to stop the other teams offense.
  18. I don't really like predictions but I think UND matches up pretty well with NDSU in some ways. NDSU scores some through the air but UND shuts down the run game. UND's only chance is to control the ball on offense and not turn it over. Last week was pretty rough so I will predict 27-10 NDSU. If UND plays well I think they do have a real shot at an upset.
  19. This isn't even a consideration if the team blocked like they did against Wyoming. I am a firm believer that it isn't what you run on offense it's all about execution and consistency. I know you can't be predictable unless you are dominant but if UND executes properly yesterday we have a very different game. Drake deserves some credit because they played a good game, but UND has a lot of blame to pass around as well.
  20. Brown had a pretty rough stretch during the game yesterday.
  21. I thought people said most of the students left at halftime? If that is true they bailed before it got to the ugly part of the game. The first half was sloppy on offense as well, but things didn't get really bad until the second half. UND had a very bad game and that does happen sometimes in football. I was upset that they couldn't fix the issues throughout the game but I don't think we will see UND execute this poorly again.
  22. Well... that was ugly. I hope it was just a letdown because if we play like that up front and fumble the ball among other glaring mistakes it will be a long day against NDSU. I still feel UND can bounce back because the defense is very good although I think one of the CB might need to drop a spot on the depth chart. The line play was a big issue yesterday but Keaton needs to play a much cleaner game going forward. A win is a win but Bubba and staff have a lot to fix this week.
  23. After the Wyoming game I feel pretty good about shutting down NDSU ground game but I think they will likely be able to score some with the passing game. If UND doesn't turn over the ball I would be shocked if NDSU scored more than 24 points. I am still not sold on the UND offense yet but it certainly looked a lot better than last year in game one. At this point I don't see a blowout game.
  24. It wouldn't surprise me if this was true or at least partially true because for all the good intelligent football coaches you have a lot of bad apples as well. Not just in recruiting but in other situations like the what happened with the RB at Illinois State this offseason. That being said, if Klieman got wind of this I am sure he would rip his coach a new B hole because you can't have staff hurting your reputation because it may not affect the program right away but this stuff would eventually catch up with you on the recruiting trail.
  25. https://www.yahoo.com/health/how-1-student-can-be-accused-of-rape-at-2-126453508347.html I find it very disturbing that this guy continues to get opportunities to play college basketball considering the situation. The win at all costs mentality by certain coaches at all levels of athletics is really bad for sports. The NCAA likes to dig into all types of stuff that it shouldn't, so why not step in and do something about situations like this.
