  1. I understand your hope, and here's why I don't share it with you. I've posted this a bunch, so I'll just paraphrase it here: The settlement agreement talks about what happens to UND if the NCAA were to eliminate the "namesake tribe approval" exemption rules. That's in writing, signed by the NCAA and the State of ND. The State didn't put that in. By bringing up eliminating all exemptions it is a clear sign of what the NCAA's end game is, and it's not allowing more monikers but instead eliminating *all* such monikers (and I'm looking at you Florida State, Utah, and Central Michigan).
  2. There's the problem: The NCAA now has all the power in this situation because they have a signed settlement agreement. And honestly, Standing Rock isn't going to change their stance so does the NCAA's stance matter?
  3. The entirety? Seriously? No. Are there individuals that are? Yes. So do you see individuals or just groups.
  4. Sioux County is run by the Sioux County Commission and is a part of the State of North Dakota. Standing Rock Nation is a soverign nation (as Canada is a soverign nation) recognized by the US Government. The NCAA wants to hear from Standing Rock, not Sioux County. It's in writing in the settlement agreement.
  5. On Measure 2? Property taxes still exist. Did you mean Measure 4? If so ... Nothing. The NCAA wants to hear from Standing Rock Goverment, not Sioux County.
  6. I saw the NCAA's attorney continually point to a signed settlement agreement with the State of ND in front of Federal Judge Erickson. That convinced me that the NCAA won't be budging. Well, that, ... and a Federal Judge agreeing with them.
  7. I'm tiring of saying it: Read the forum rules. Stop the namecalling (even in jest). Signed, The Moderation Team
  8. OK pivitz, propose the solution where things can go merrily along for all, meaning keep the name and no NCAA sanctions.
  9. I see your 80 years and raise you 129 years of University of North Dakota friends and alumni looking out for UND's best interests.
  10. False appearance? Contradiction? I changed positions and I stated precisely why. Could it be that you're just unhappy with the "why" because it's not the right "why" in your opinion.
  11. I just heard Hakstol (and Idalski and Mussman) on 740 The Fan. Hak addressed the claims of "just spreading fear" the moniker-at-any-cost crowd throws at UND. He point blank said those stating that claim are questioning his integrity and the rest of the coaches' as well. As Hak said, it's summer and they all have better and more important things to be doing than traveling around the state for two days. But they are doing it because it is that important to all the programs at UND that the truth and the facts get out there.
  12. Did I change my mind when the price of keeping the moniker got too high? Yes. By stating that clearly the last thing it makes me is a hypocrit.
  13. It looks to me like he's standing in front of the (under construction) Gorecki Center. http://www.undalumni.org/Page.aspx?pid=1921
  14. All I've got? No. All I'll use here? Yes. I try to stick to civil conversation. It's a new concept for too many. As I explained before, your issue is with the NCAA, not with UND or UND supporters (who support the University first and a moniker second). Please address your concerns, which even I agree are real and legitimate, and that I've taken to the NCAA already to no avail, to the only group that can address and resolve them to your satisfaction: Dr. Mark Emmert, President Dr. Bernard Franklin, Executive Vice President for Membership and Student-Athlete Affairs The National Collegiate Athletics Association 700 W. Washington Street P.O. Box 6222 Indianapolis, Indiana 46206-6222 Phone: 317/917-6222 Fax: 317/917-6888 In the mean time, please don't be surprised when (a) I state that I support UND first and a moniker second and (b) when I challenge people who believe an 80 year moniker is more valuable than a 129 year old university.
  15. The Moderation Team has asked nicely to keep it civil. Please listen or further, more definitive actions, will commence.
  16. So now watchmaker is defending folks who would keep the moniker when it's been watchmaker's life's work to see the moniker removed. Now that-thar is irony writ large.
  17. Just ... Cavalry. Individual cavalrymen are called Troopers. --> Go Troop.
  18. Only one group killed more buffalo than the Plains Indians. That group was the Cavalry (the US Army).
  19. And even if you hit, you'd better have purchased the mineral rights to the parcel you're on (and good luck with that).
  20. UND's lawsuit against the NCAA spells out the specifics that some are questioning here: Note the singular use "namesake sovereign tribe" quoted from the NCAA's own document. Every school granted the namesake exemption received it based on the approval of a single tribe. That was all UND needed, too, until after the settlement agreement. In fact, UND maintained that it already had the approval of a namesake tribe. UND argued that the last official action of Spirit Lake's tribal government granted the university permission to use the nickname and logo. The NCAA asked the tribe to reaffirm its support, and Spirit Lake never did. As Teeder notes, tribal chairman Myra Pearson voted in favor of resolutions calling for an end to the Fighting Sioux nickname during the time when the tribal council was ignoring the NCAA's request to reaffirm the 2000 resolution. That did nothing but create confusion about whether or not Spirit Lake supported UND's use of the nickname. To satisfy the NCAA, all Spirit Lake's tribal council had to do was send a letter to the NCAA saying that the resolution it passed in 2000 still applied. It never happened. Thus, the NCAA ignored the tribe's last official action on the issue.
  21. Dear poseur, Where were you on August 5, 2005, shortly after the NCAA policy was announced? Me? I was in communication with the folks in 300 Twamley (Kupchella and Harmeson) explaining, citing chapter and section of the Division I manual, how the NCAA had broken their own by-laws in creating this policy. (The NCAA has since changed the by-laws making this policy correct within the NCAA rules structure.) So please, keep writing the humorous posts. I need the laughs.
  22. Yo Jim, With this upgrade did you change the mobile version of the forum? What I'm seeing on my WinPhone7 is much smoother and easier to navigate.
  23. Mr. Drinkwine, Tell it to the NCAA. In the meantime the NCAA has a virtual gun to UND's head, and they've already figuratively put one into our leg (telling the womens hockey team they'd be on the road even if they'd earned home ice) to show they're serious. UND has to make a move, stop the bleeding, and make sure more, worse damage doesn't happen. However, please, feel free to try to "disarm" the NCAA if you can. U UND's the victim in this; go after the perpetrator. SIgned, A guy who'll vote YES to stop the bleeding
  24. 10-0 on the road in the Stanley Cup playoffs. .... That's pretty good ...
