  1. How do you reconcile your opinion/conclusion with those of Tim O'Keefe or Earl Strinden?
  2. Did Dave Hakstol just say "control what's yours to control"?
  3. http://www.grandfork...group/homepage/ That letter was written by Earl Strinden, the former majority leader of the North Dakota House and retired CEO of the UND Alumni Association, and one of Ralph Engelstad's best friends.

  5. By the State Constitution, the State Legislature can only meet for 80 days every two years. There are about 2100 separate jurisdictions in ND that rely on property taxes to provide the services they do. 80 days is 115200 minutes (assuming working 24 hours per day!). With about 2100 separate things to fund that means each jurisdiction gets under 55 minutes every two years to argue their budgetary needs in Bismarck. Plus, this consolidated more power in the Legislature. Sorry, I don't want more power consolidated in Bismarck with guys like Al Carlson. If a group is going to show up without an implementation plan and a proposal to eliminate a tax how about next time it's the state income tax instead.
  6. Vote Yes 4 UND. (That's some subliminal messaging to help people remember. )
  7. As I've said time and time again, someone will fill the void (and more than likely someone without UND's best interests in mind). Control what's your to control.
  8. You're getting what you've wanted all along (no more moniker) but not for the reason you want. So you're railing against those that are giving you what you claim you wanted. You just can't be happy with getting what you wanted. So you try the righteous / sanctimonious approach against folks who have UND's best interests above your crusading cause. I bet it's tough to learn that support for UND trumped your life's mission after all.
  9. I do believe Mac supported the logo until the price got too high (sanctions). My turning point was the settlement agreement. I really didn't like the terms, but the State negotiated it and I don't want the State to renege on a deal.
  10. Keep the politics out. Thank you. Signed, The Moderation Team
  11. How the {bleep} did Kopitar get so open in OT?
  12. Oh, ... nice, ... so now you're going to get all crabby and owly on me.
  13. "Hi, we're from the NCAA and we're here to help!" http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/7990294/ncaa-investigating-montana-football-program-sexual-assault-harassment-reports-female-students
  14. If keeping the "same stance" was always a good thing we'd still have doctors doing bloodletting to cure disease. Times change. Circumstances change. Things change.
  15. There's no need for that. Please maintain some level of decorum. Thank you. Signed, The Moderation Team
  16. That does not align with random polling* by Forum Communications. That showed Grand Forks County as being one of the biggest potential "yes" vote locations in the state. *Online polling is always suspect because it is not a random sampling of the pool but rather a "self-selected" subset of the pool. But enough amateur statistical theory ...
  17. So a "fine" college without athletics has to put its name onto a stadium used for professional and college athletics to draw attention to the college and get the attention of potential enrollees. So even U of Phoenix needs high level college athletics.
  18. Thank you for being the textbook definition of "sore winner". Now, to point, UND has to sponsor at least 14 sports (7M/7W or 6M/8W) to stay classified Division I. That's the NCAA's rule also. So losing sports does damage Athletics at UND. And, as Dave Hakstol has said, sanctions would slowly erode even the mens hockey program.
  19. Measure 1: I don't think legislators should be put into state administrative offices, ever, unless they give up their legislative seat. If this makes appointing legislators to administrative positions more difficult I'll vote NO for that reason alone. Measure 2: Great notion, but they have no implementation plan (so the Legislature gets free reign to create one, like raising sales or income tax rates to make up the difference, and they will). Come back next time with an implementation plan. I'll vote NO now. Measure 3: Stuff like this tends to come back around and prove the law of unintended consequences. I'll vote NO. Measure 4: I'm voting YES for the University of North Dakota.
  20. That sounds like "sanctions" and "death knell to the programs" to me.
  21. Would you rather have you or your relatives be treated by a UND Medical School graduate or someone who learned just enough Spanish to attend an unaccredited medical school in the Caribbean that offered no clinical rotations and no residency programs? There should be no concerns because surely all medical schools are fine schools ...
  22. Not to sound crass, but absentee balloting is open in Burleigh County. PS - Find her a goal to live for beyond June 12. Mental attitude matters.
  23. When I saw that in the Hurled yesterday, and that they've moved atop the UND water tower, I wondered how long until the notion would appear here. GeauxSioux right on cue. If they pick a raptor-based moniker, I'd prefer the apex predator from this region. This guy.
