  1. It extends beyond the fans apparently. http://www.inforum.com/news/3947253-ndsus-64-million-budget-cut-plan-sent-system-office-has-just-one-line One line item saves having to do all that fancy cypherin'.
  2. A five-letter French-derived word? If the NCAA were a public entity you'd have a First Amendment case. It's not, and the case is over.
  3. I think of Empire Arts as not where you'd find sports fans but folks that were behind how we got here in the first place. I want sports fans giving the input, not the "Leigh Jeanottes" and "Lucy Ganges" of the world. Am I stereotyping the Empire Arts crowd? Yup. And if you don't like it please see my attorneys' Facebook page.
  4. That's a great observation. You only have to sponsor 14 for DI (FCS). You have to sponsor 16 for DI (FBS). In these budget tight times across the country, why would schools be adding programs? You can say "Title IX problems", sure. But you can balance that Title IX equation by methods other than adding womens programs (i.e. reallocating funding and resources within existing programs to balance the opportunities between men and women). Note: The Big Sky Conference sponsors ... 16 ... sports (7 men, 9 women). That aligns with not only FCS, but FBS, minimums.
  5. There's (as they say in the business) the money shot: NDSU told their students they had a five year plan, and came back for more in two years. Yes, the NDSU students should question what happened, what changed, or who flat out can't estimate and budget.
  6. Oh yeah, the UND WSB schedule is far less travel ... not. http://www.undsports.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=13500&SPID=6392&SPSID=58593&DB_OEM_ID=13500 You're bailing water but the boat keeps sinkin'.
  7. What? What "we" you talking about? Surely not the Bison. North Dakota Baseball played Southern California. And UND won 2 of 3 in Los Angeles.
  8. Pictures or it never happened.
  9. This one's over. On to the most important game on the schedule: the next one.
  10. Uh ... why the Empire Arts Center? The union ballroom for the campus folks, sure. But ... the Empire? The logo is for Athletics. Why not at ... Alerus Center, or The Betty, or The Ralph, or Hyslop, or High Performance Center. All of those are places the public goes and they are UND Athletics focused.
  11. Independently wealthy and chronically bored?
  12. Dude ... you're posting here, so you must have access to the interwebs. I watched part of the Minot / WF game last night on WDAY.com. Hot linky to the vids: http://www.wday.com/live-video/3955349
  13. The chair of NDSU Math:
  14. How do you feel about "quality losses"?
  15. At private schools, yes. At many, many, many (OK, most) public institutions a significant portion of athletics dollars come from university support funds and subsidies (via the state legislature). http://www.forbes.com/sites/ccap/2014/12/12/who-actually-funds-intercollegiate-athletic-programs/#7904718b5b99
  16. I know this may be blasphemous on a college sports website, but a university's primary mission is educational. If money's tight, anything not directly related to education is fair game for the budget ax. That seems to be the tact Alaska's legislature is taking.
  17. I hope you're not implying that conference realignment has anything to do with state legislature realigning the Alaska state budget.
  18. Bresciani needed a precedent, a toe-hold. Well, verse three got it for him. Let's see if he goes to eradicate the rest of the questionable songs/cheers from his campus next. Who wants a conference-mate that proudly, loudly, cheers that a "Native tribe creates a negative pressure gradient upon fecal matter" even when that target is not the opponent. In today's PC, high-sensitivity world: nobody. Pass the popcorn please. This could get interesting.
  19. Here's more on this issue: https://sayanythingblog.com/entry/ndsu-president-censors-school-song-over-racist-lyrics/
  20. OK, I messed up. I tried to take the portion of this thread about NDSU's school song and put it in the correct thread over in NCAA News. In the process I ending up merging all the posts into one instead of moving them (dang new board!). Instead of leaving a mess (14 posts all merged into one) here, I deleted it. My apologies to those affected.
  21. It look like Jim is starting to fill out his Predicted 16:
  22. I can still believe today's students could vote for it (aka against the alternative) and yet still boo it because of what it isn't. As a matter of fact that would surprise me none. Because if it wasn't the student constituency that voted it in, I'm left to believe the unbelievable.
  23. Long, long, long, long ago, before he moved to Fargo, I believe Scott Miller was a UND Athletics broadcaster.
  24. I do like how they've changed the game day script to use "Fighting Hawks" (<-- I think that's the first time I've actually used that as a name) only in reference to when a penalty has been called. "Fighting Hawks penalty to number ... " < crowd boos > ... so on TV it sounds like the home fans are booing the call. And I agree with the person who said the greatest density of booing is coming from sections 108, 109, and 307-310.
