A little mouse was in the room when Kelley first put together and met with one of his infamous committees. That mouse spoke with me. The mouse told me that Kelley came into the room and started explaining his grand plan for a committee to report to a committee to select the committee to designate the panel to report to the panel selection committee which would lead to a suggestion committee then to a selection committe. Two people in the room (the first committee, circa 2011) were stunned and both said: Deal with this. Now. Get it done. Now. And of course, Kelley, smarter than both, did it his own way anyway. What is stunning is those two, who were both saying "we do this here and now" were ... Leigh Jeanotte and Ed Schafer Why wasn't Ed in place 12 months earlier ... < sigh > ... heck, why wasn't it Ed instead of Kelley for the whole Kelley regime.

NDUS Budget Cuts (changed name to be system-wide)

I'm pretty sure Doug is lost west of ND Highway 18 unless he has his GPS enabled Windows Phone. OK, OK, that might be harsh. It's Highway 32. -
So Bresciani has a goal to make NDSU AAU ....

Is Bill Gates allowed to criticize American higher education? -
You never know; some schools have esoteric course requirements for their grad school to effectively give preference to their own (or in-state) undergrads.

Walker has his undergrad from Colorado and has a year of eligibility for football left? I like it on so many levels. What was his undergrad and what's he studying in grad school?

That's where Ed and I diverge. -
Be careful. Ed's father Harold was the guy that started Medora and selling the TR/Roughriders imagery of the State. Ed might have come out with something I lobbied for (and that "Abe Vigoda" didn't like).
-
Minor diversion to the new FLA logo ... I was pro-Roughriders. I would've argued for sleeve hashes (1 for FR; 4 for SR) and collar regalia for Cs and As on jerseys.

Hard look, find the overlaps, make the changes, free up budgets, get to take on some new initiatives. <-- What a concept! The catch is that you have to stay in that self-evaluation mode. -
When the #gobc "cleaners" and "mechanics" are done with you you'll fail more than a retinal scan.
-
I like the old Panther attack cat logo, but I don't mind this new one. It's a million times better than QU's "kitty paw" Bobcat.
-
So you were in the room, saw the roll-outs, got asked for an opinion ... and you didn't leak any here. Turn in your #gobc covert operative decoder ring on your way out the door.

I think Ed is pointing out 2000 amateurs picked "Hawks", just like thousands of other amateurs picked Hawks at so many other schools transitioning from Native related names. So yeah, he is saying it's generic and bland. Professionals would have taken time to really find something that is unique and distinct to and about North Dakota. Ed comes from the mindset of "this is my job, I'm going to do it". You could see it in the way he handled the budget; if he could have, he'd have handled the nickname the same way. The predecessor was all committees and consensus; all that gets you is bland and generic.

And that's why I said what I said. Unless the offer had clear, obvious, and measurably better results* for UND, it's a non-starter. *Results just don't mean "straight cash", it means exposure and advertising.

Ed Schafer talks about his time as interim UND president: http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4046524-outgoing-und-president-reflects-successes-plans-champion-new-budget I'm glad to hear he plans to keep working (for UND and the NDUS) during the 2017 Legislative session. Also, Nursing is suspending a small specialty graduate program so they can focus (staff, time, resources) more on the programs students are trying to enroll in. And the move fits better with the long term vision of the Nursing school. What concepts! Maybe some of what Ed preached is going to stick. http://www.grandforksherald.com/news/education/4046511-enrollment-suspended-und-nursing-specialization -
I'm fine with "alternate" uniforms as long as something key stays visible and recognizable enough to know at a mere glance who it is. For example, Dallas could go to a silver jersey, navy pants, but if they kept that silver helmet with the blue star, not a problem.

You must also be "humorless".

2016 Red River could go toe to toe with the Gophers.

We talking lines, teams, or CHL v NCAA? If we are talking teams, UND wouldn't have put CBS out against London's top line. London's top line would have seen a whole bunch of UND's Heavy Line. The Heavy Line shut down Michigan's CCM line and everyone else they were matched against.

No, I don't believe the B1G has a Scientology division or offers conference play in that.

Bridgestone (with Broadway Street right there) is a lot of fun. No further comment.
