MattyRinks ... now that I think about it, yeah, he was brought in as a puck eater and became a de facto top guy. He came in behind McIntyre and Saunders, and then McIntyre and Cam Johnson. And then Cam and Tomek. But there's the turning point: Tomek went down, Matt had to step up (and did HUGE) and Ryan Anderson was brought in late and given the puck sauce (<-- to eat pucks in practice). Edit: Ouch. I'd come up with some ideas when the logo was first rolled out. And here's proof I ain't no graphic ar-teest.

For those who do understand, as I did yesterday, I wish them well on their way through or out of their chronic grief. However, I do believe there are a significant number who do not understand, and do not see truth.

I just said "reality." Forgive me, but I'm going to go all Augustinian on y'all for a minute. St. Augustine, in the Summa, he sums up TRUTH as "conformity of mind and reality." In logical truth, the mind is conformed (meaning in agreement or alignment) with things outside the mind, either in assenting to what is or in denying what is not. Its opposite is error. The UND nickname today is "Fighting Hawks". That is reality. If your mind aligns with this you know truth. If not, as Augustine would posit, it is in error. If you don't like this, take it up with Augustine. People have tried for a millennia.

First, Iowa's Herky Hawk ... ah, yuck. No birds with teeth. I wonder if part of a mascot they'll comment or make recommendations on the current logo. Or if they'll set the stage for a secondary logo. I'd like to see some things done with the hawk head and the word marks (North Dakota), or even the outline of the state, like they did for Iowa.

The old nickname and logo have become anachronism, something that is not in its correct historical or chronological time, something that belongs to an earlier time. That is reality. You may freely choose to be anachronism as well, or be in the present.

Listen to the Wilson/ZAR call. The first words from Pierre were, " ... ZAR was over stick handling ... ". Translating that from today's polite vernacular to old school: Keep your head up son, it's a man's game.

< looking to the sky and pondering > I wonder what would've happened if "no nickname" had been voted on and won, but with the firm, and enforced, caveat that the old logo/nickname gear was deemed offensive and could not be worn at any UND events. Basically, if "no nickname" happened and was strictly enforced (no defaulting back allowed).
