2020-21 ND High School Hockey

Sunday, November 30, 1986 UND Winter Sports Building (not sure if was renamed yet) It's a rare Sunday afternoon game and the opponent is Yale. Unlike Friday where the Hrkac Circus had their way with UNH in a 10-0 victory, Yale is putting up a fight. It's not a full house (I have most of a row for me, social distancing before its time I guess). I'm in the student section, top row below the concourse so I have an awesome view with little glass obstruction of the goal. It's the second because Yale is shooting to the north and it's a close game (tied or one goal, don't recall but ... ). I watched Yale hit the old center vertical bar pad squarely and the puck come straight back out. The neither linesman was in position to see and the referee was screened by traffic. The shot came square and left square so the goal judge never saw it. No video in those days. I saw it. I heard it. Yale reacted like they scored. UND cleared the puck down ice. I knew what I'd seen and heard: Yale had scored. I even pointed "goal" at the north net (silly honest streak in me). No goal after the officials and the goal judge all chatted. UND went on to win 6-4 that day, but that goal may have made for a different outcome. As Dean Blais says, hockey is a funny game. -

If the schedule could have been easily changed (swap Omaha week for week) it should’ve been evaluated. -

It’s a strange year. Everyone must be flexible. No? And it wouldn’t be a whim; it’d be for the good of the league. Make team penalties hurt teams. -

Yes, a thank you note for saving UNO4 a major should be going to UND25. I also noticed UNO4 really didn’t want any of UND25. -

The league should change it up and have UND play Miami and UNO play WMU the last two games. Leave DU/CC and UMD/SCSU as is. -

Play Ness. See if he can do it. Kawa basically became 13th forward. And -
The point on getting subs reps has been a key to NDSUs run. It is real. The point about not getting key people hurt needlessly ... Ness got Kawaguchi shifts late Saturday in hockey. Guch had great seats.

Who were those guys in the green hats? I was driving and listening and the radio crew was stunned.

I thought that's why Alerus Center and the HPC.

Control what's yours to control. Beat Omaha. -
I provided data without comment. Hockey? I want as large a home ice advantage as possible.

I see Tom Dosch is doing color beside Jack now. Where's Mike Berg?

So you're saying they may try the run.

... or more as defined in the rule book.

I was told by a player that in the late 1980s you could "bomb"-away (if it was not directly aimed at an opponent or official), but there was one word that was an instance "deuce" and feel much shame.

I was at the Saturday (DU@UND) game. I saw my usher motion to one person about a mask. I don't blame REA. I don't shoot the messenger. I blame us for not asking, no DEMANDING, the folks making public policy, for REA and everywhere (meaning our public officials), for firm metrics and dates. https://www.health.nd.gov/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/north-dakota-coronavirus-cases Why? I want a full house of UND fans.

When I still had FB season stubs I was at a game and we were literally the only people in the bottom four rows of a section. I crossed my leg (calf on knee) and had the side of my foot resting on the chair in front of me. The usher told me to get my feet off the seats. This was after watching kids from other sections literally run on seat bottoms and over rows (and into me twice) for most of halftime. They lost a FB season ticket holder that day.

Are we sure it isn't ... all of us? Have we as a society lost all decorum and just become "loudest gets their way and I'll smack you if I don't get mine"? I know of an outstanding math teacher who quit the profession because of the kids and the parents and the administration. All have fallen into "loudest wins" and they could no longer tolerate it and what it was doing to the kids trying to be civil and act with decorum. I won't tell you how and why I quit officiating ice hockey (but when I think about it the scar throbs). We all (my hand in air too) could do well exercising more prudence, justice, temperance, and courage.
