  1. We're small. We need to get bigger players. (That's my guess at least.)
  2. I think he's afraid the star2city notion of DU and UND to the Big Sky could happen.
  3. DU is about hockey, skiing, and lacrosse (they dropped 100 years of baseball for it and have made a significant investment in it). You can only play up in one DI sport if there is a DII or DIII championship in the sport. Skiing and its combined championship would be fine, but playing up in DI hockey would preclude DI lacrosse as there is a DIII lax tournament. Denver's going nowhere toward DIII, no matter your beliefs or "expertise" in such matters.
  4. But DU could not, as the exemption only applies to teams that were DIIIs when it was created. My better question: Why so worried about DU?
  5. Why would Bison fans want DU to not stay DI? Because the Denver market is very valuable for ratings, recruits, and scholarships, and the Big Sky knows it. PS - Denver at UND hockey was on FSN-Rocky Mountain last night. TV market.
  6. Dig around USCHO.com and you'll find an old article about the DIIIs of today being grandfathered into an allowance to give DI hockey scholarships. (Your memory is pretty close Hammersmith.)
  7. Look up "NCAA Skiing Championships" and then feel silly for asking.
  8. My thoughts also. To me the "SWA" is more a "label" identifying the senior ranking female in the organization more than a "position" within the department.
  9. UND has a new advertising/recruitment campaign running: http://www.go.und.edu/better/ Where have you seen billboards for it? I've seen a billboard: - westbound on 12th Avenue North, just before the train tracks overpass, in Fargo, ND - southbound on University Drive at about 6th Avenue North, in Fargo, ND Interesting locations I must say ....
  10. Yes and no. Yes, because he's in a better titled job at NMSU. No, if he's looking to get back to "hands on day to day" operations. I guess I'd need some background on why he was moved upstairs. But he'd have nice connections to western FCS (DI-A) conferences, as would Burke. Question: If Burke was AD, would a "senior womens administrator" titled position be required by the NCAA?
  11. You're lookin' to get a rise out of someone with that, ain't ya.
  12. Shoot. I got trumped by the old "you put your observations on-line" thing. :D I hope you're right, but the financing methodology to date appears haphazard. You'd figure Ace Brandt (a fairly well to do man with wealthy family) would be able to better line up financing on this scale of project. I don't recall Kevin Christiansen and his team having these issues in developing the Osgood area (and golf course) of Fargo.
  13. Using this site's PWR I see a scenario few could imagine years ago .... - MSU-Mankato and UM-Duluth do enough to at least hold their spots in the PWR top 13* - SCSU goes on a late season run and slips into a PWR top 13 - Minnesota continues to struggle (figure UMD holding on pushes UM down) - Bemidji State wins the CHA tournament That scenario would have all the Minnesota teams in ... except Minnesota! * I don't think anyone is safe in PWR unless you're at least 13th (given the autobids to the AHA and CHA and the potential for at least one surprise tourney autobid winner).
  14. Call me silly, but USA Hockey is going to a facility in April 2009 that today, Feb 13, 2008, is ironwork and nothing more. And it's a facility that still doesn't have all of its financing rock solid in place .... Essentially, what they have left are the nitty-gritty details. You know those: the Devil lives in them. And they tend to not be so little at times and break deals. I hope USA Hockey knows what it's doing. Closed Circuit to REA: Keep those April 2009 dates open .... just in case.
  15. The GW commish has USD just playing Poly and UND just playing Davis because of the "non-counter" year for the UxD schools. He's doing what commissioners do: Trying to get the league into the post-season. It's one year; it'll come and go and be done.
  16. Mussman was overheard saying UND still has three offers out there, and none to Americans: A WR/DB, a DL, and a LB.
  17. Why is there a thread about anybody's schedule but UND or Great West teams (current) on this board. (Please note the lack of a question mark at the end of that sentence.)
  18. Watch that Panther/Sabre clip in live action, but focus on the Panther defensemen. One of them was aware that something really bad had happened to Zednik and was over to the bench to help support him (as in hold him up and get him off the ice) right away. That, friends, is ice awareness. He's a 10+ year journeyman NHL defenseman, but Jassen Cullimore can play on my team any time.
  19. I believe that moves us up one notch on the "Ron White Homeland Security Advisory Scale" from "Get a Helmet" to "Put It On."
  20. Puffy's just trying to give the ol' "kiss of death".
  21. Ray Purpur would be an excellent candidate given his resume. But I struggle to believe Stanford would let him get away.
  22. From the Jacobs column: You whinin' or workin'?
