Allow me to be blunt: We on this forum are not the "movers and shakers" who provide the major donations to build things like this. Sorry, we just ain't. However, I know a few of those types of folks and most of them are sufferers of "moniker fatigue". And, they also saw how Mr. Engelstad was treated after giving a significant donation and stating his support of the moniker. No one wants to be treated that way. I, honestly, wouldn't be surprised if this freed up some donations from folks who want to provide a significant gift but who also want to avoid being virtually tarred and feathered the way Ralph was, and continues to be. Think about it: If someone comes in with a significant gift in the next year they are in the white hat, on the white horse, providing aid and comfort in UND's time of need. Everybody wants that perception of themselves.

I was lurking at Boosters also. "mikejm" gives the accurate account: Amazingly mellow given the circumstances.

FSSN. Now come the 2011-2012 season ...

Rough Riders would pass because it's the state nickname. Cavalry would never pass the sensitivity test.

We can only hope.

ScottM: Which NDSU bar did you get that photo in?

Take it to the Sioux nickname forum.

Sorry star, can't. The body has been dead for a while. It was put to rest yesterday. My grieving started when the settlement was signed and it ended yesterday. My top 3: Rough Riders - the other state nickname Reapers - a tip of the cap to the state's ag history and a look forward to the new UAVs at GFAFB ScoUNDrels - nice play on the word and letters Out of the running: FLICKERtails - UND has already thrown that out once (it was so hated by teams they called themselves the Nodaks instead) Sundogs - preferred by BRIDGES, the group that got us to this point, they've done enough already Pheasants - the Sioux Falls minor league baseball team just took that name this week
-
In that case, you'll have to go with North Dakota's other state nickname: Rough Riders. Flickertails has been done and shelved already; Peace Gardeners just wouldn't seem to garner much opponent respect.

And USoCar takes heat from PETA claiming their moniker promotes cock fighting. http://www.dailygamecock.com/2.3455/peta-v...essure-1.386871

Our athletic teams left "Flickertails" behind once already for good reason. Don't repeat the mistake.

Read my signature. The answer is in there. For now you use the logo that is my avatar and just the wordmark (with the UND highlighted). Later, you come up with a mascot to go with the word.
-
The Sioux Falls Canaries now being the Sioux Falls Pheasants takes "pheasants" out of play.

Flickertails is unmarketable with gophers to the east. And there's another problem with FLICKERS ... (what word did you see?)

That is probably your best and most insightful post in this forum. -

No, it's 0-2. There's no way for a walk with anything less than four bad misses right now. Has bat; doesn't see 1/4 inch wide crack running through trademark. -

As important as we thought April 6, 2010 was, April 8, 2010, looms far larger. -
Would that make everyone that may defeat the team ... pheasant pluckers? (Careful if you say it out-loud quickly.) Concept status: FAIL.

Butler going to MBB national title game

This suddenly has me asking: How is the payout really done for the Frozen Four? I'd always heard UND doesn't take a slice of Frozen Four tournament money because it is a DII playing in a DI tournament. Now that UND will soon be a full DI (with UMinn, UWisc, and Denver) in the WCHA, will UND get a payout? Is the payout based solely on UND's performance, or on the performance of the WCHA? I guess I'll repeat the core question: How is the payout really done for the Frozen Four tournament (meaning from 16 teams to champion)? It'd be interesting to know what Denver (2005 champs) or Wisconsin (2006 champs) netted from those runs. It'd be interesting to know if there is a similar (conference and multi-year performance based) system.
