I can't find it on the "internets", but my recollections say that Chrysler Corporation *paid* a tribe for the rights to use the name "Dakota" on a Dodge truck. They sold the name they call themselves in their language to a corporation to market a truck. That's more interesting than selling a word of French/Ojibwe etymology.

Isn't the code for defensemen: Slash my goalie and I'll beat you down. So, should Ballard have to apply a beat-down to himself now? (I have visions of a scene from "Fight Club".)

FAIL. The Bottineau campus was under the control of Minot State University during Penner's matriculations. You can see his college stats are listed as "MSU - Bottineau" (of the NJCAA). PS - Is Jason Blake a Ferris State Bulldog or a North Dakota Fighting Sioux? If you say "Sioux", Penner is a Maine Black Bear.

What's the point of breaking your stick over the net anyway. To me it shows a total lack of self-discipline and self-control, and a lack of maturity. And in this case the idoicy ended up harming someone else.

In a word, uninspired.

See the link I gave previously. There are three methods to get into compliance. The "three-prong test" of an institution's compliance (a recipient of federal funds can demonstrate compliance with Title IX by meeting any one of the three prongs): Prong one - Providing athletic participation opportunities that are substantially proportionate to the student enrollment, OR Prong two - Demonstrate a continual expansion of athletic opportunities for the underrepresented sex, OR Prong three - Full and effective accommodation of the interest and ability of underrepresented sex. Based on the last information I came across, UND uses "prong one" to stay in compliance. Adding womens, or eliminating mens, opportunities would restore the proportionality. Last I heard NDSU was using "prong three" and the following: On March 17, 2005, OCR announced a clarification of prong three of the three-part test of Title IX compliance. The guidance concerned the use web-based surveys to determine the level of interest in varsity athletics among the under-represented sex. I'm sure Hammersmith will correct me on this.

No, dropping a mens sport to rebalance into Title IX compliance was an available option (as it would negate a possible suit). Not a pretty one, but an available one at the time. Title IX doesn't say you have to match sports. Dropping a mens sport would meet the "proportionality" option (one of three possible ways) of compliance to Title IX. So yes, the options were as given.

I just heard Hak on 740 The Fan with Dan Hammer. Regarding Chay Genoway's return to the ice he said " ... it'll be a while ... "

You too? I'm thinking this guy served in a M*A*S*H unit in Korea under the name Capt. Tuttle.
-
The options were: - be sued under Title IX of US Federal law - drop a mens sport - add a womens sport

Oh, I'm sure it's in the book somewhere. It's like when Don Adam finally read (note I don't say "and understood") the hockey rule book and came up with the "I intended to blow the whistle" call to waive off a UND goal. In honor of that referee, let's all do a demonstrative clapping gesture.

Those are criminal acts, and are obviously outside the Code of Conduct for REA. Those acts should not be tolerated anywhere.

Folks, you're making way too much out of this. Here are the simple steps to stay in compliance: - Search for George Carlin's "7 Words You Can't Say on TV." - Make sure if one of them escapes your lips during a game that the only people that can hear it are within arm's reach. - If you do get a dirty look from a person that hears it, say "Oops. Sorry" and try to not have it slip next time. Done. Pretty simple really. And in an act of full disclosure: One of the "7" escaped my lips more than once with Kristo on the point during powerplays. But only those within arm's reach heard it.

The AD, ... and the NCAA.

Question: Does the MWC want to continue to have a Central Time Zone presence? Yes, TCU is having an amazing football run, but if the MWC were to pick up Boise and Fresno that moves the MWC further west. So, does the MWC want to continue to be spread over three time zones? If not, taking Nevada would be a clear signal that TCU is too far east already.

The league was smart enough to keep Marvin off the ice Saturday. I was expecting that a number seventeen body bag would be needed at the visitor's bench Saturday.

How about rotating Marto, LaPoint, and Gleason through and at the end of the power play (last 20-30 seconds) putting Blood out there. Those first three can thread a shot through and will play smart back there. If you really want a forward back there I'd say Toews and put Knight or Cichy out with Trupp and Malone for a second PP unit. For that matter, of all the forwards, based on the Friday performance I'd say the one that deserved to be healthy scratched Saturday was Kristo. Cichy played a smart, tough game and he doesn't give up the puck very easily. No, he's not flashy or fast, but he doesn't make mistakes with the puck either.
-
We the fans deserve officials of the calibre of the playing talent on the ice. We have NHL calibre talent with beer league, low-bid refs.
-
If I ever see Kristo out there on the point during a power play again it'll be too soon.

It's too bad we didn't get the Gophers at a time where we could use "Beaver Rejects!"

Are you sure the purple you're seeing isn't the inside of a bottle of Crown Royal? PS - Shiancoe is a tight end.
