  1. Apparently not any more.
  2. Strip and wax.
  3. Senior day is a day for ... the seniors. Cup day is a team day. Don't let one overshadow the other.
  4. Folks, I've been telling you to demand an open, public process start immediately. Now you know why ...
  5. A little face time in the New York Times can't be all bad ... http://www.nytimes.com/2011/02/26/sports/26sioux.html?_r=1&src=twrhp
  6. That's exactly why you don't have a mascot. Instead you use a representative, controlled image created by an artist, like the painting of General Washington, or Mr. Brien's work. With the artwork you control the message. Florida State is just asking for a problem with a guy in paint and buckskin on a war pony. All it'll take is that personifier to be photoed at the wrong place, at the wrong time. That's exactly why you don't have a mascot.
  7. I'm guessing we won't be seeing him at McDonald's for six months.
  8. Does anyone have a problem with this? But do some folks (like me) have a problem with this (http://www.challengerblog.com/blog/1046071_dodge-challenger-world-cup-commercial-featuring-george-washington ) representation of General Washington? There's your answer.
  9. Yes, that, and maybe a more descriptive thread title.
  10. Oh no they're not. They're all about the student-athlete. Oh, wait, I thought you were talking about the NCAA. Oh, wait, ... nevermind ... you're all over it. PS - It's NDHSAA.
  11. Yes, the west gets four seeds per year, and they call them 1W, 2W, 3W, and 4W, but more often than not they work out to be effectively the 5-8 seeds in the tournament.
  12. Folks, Al Carlson's "Sioux moniker" bill was the opening salvo in this battle, a nice little ruse, a trial balloon to see if his real motive would get traction. This is the real Al Carlson bomb on this session: He wants to take control of education in ND, from K through post-doctorate, directly into the Legislature. State Superintendent of Schools? Nope. Political appointee. ND SBoHE? Nope. 11 member board looking at all K-Higher Ed. And elimination of college names from the state constitution to boot. Out of all of that, I guess I sort of agree with the last point.
  13. West Fargo went on to defeat Minot 1-0 (and outshot them 42 to {really small number here}). Given WF over Minot, do I need to reprove I am the greatest caucasian rapper and that "M&M" fella gotz nuffin'. Sica's greatest raps ... in one thread: The "Whack Pack Attack" Revival!
  14. Well played.
  15. I can hear the chants in REA now ... Slash them! [clap clap] Slash them! [clap clap] Slash them! [clap clap] ... or at Kraft Field ... Strike them out! Strike them out!
  16. From http://www.bcinterruption.com/2011/2/23/2010651/2011-ice-breaker-tournament-boston-college-hockey-north-dakota-michigan-state-air-force Hey, that's kind of catchy: The Fighting Redacted. And taking that as a moniker really would make the point. Our logo could be the classic red, circle-slash and all of our press releases could come out in strikethrough font. Let's go !!!
  17. Isn't a logo and a moniker enough?
  18. That is a failing grade in any school worth attending.
  19. I've had to deal with Fargo media during a time in my life. I can confirm Teeder's takes on this subject. (When the reporter doesn't know what the ND Century Code is, much less says, you know there's a problem.)
  20. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/41723107/ns/local_news-fargo_nd/ Folks, claiming " ... we'll just schedule ... " is just plain naive. It takes both teams agreeing to make a schedule. And it's far easier to find a "no" excuse than a "yes". So unless there's a way to guarantee not ending up on the sanctions list, this effort can end up a net negative.
  21. Yes, but if and when an override vote were to come about, how will the landscape have changed? There's no guarantee all those votes will still be there.
  22. {sigh} It would take a veto override vote (requires 2/3 majority) in both chambers of the Legislature to undo a Governor's veto.
  23. Boop-boop-boop. Incorrect. What is the SLK-class?
  24. Now, for a quick sidebar: I'm amazed at how many don't know how something becomes law (called the Century Code in ND). In an effort to try to fix the apparent short-comings of either the schools or the learners here's an educational video about how a "bill" becomes law. (The transcript of the video is here.) Be aware however that this is written for US laws, not specifically ND, but the process is the same. To translate it: Washington or Capital Hill = Bismarck House of Representatives = State House Congress = Legislature Congressman* = State representative Senate = Senate Senator = Senator President = Governor White House = Governor's office * some will argue Congressman can mean House or Senate, but it's most commonly used for a House member.
  25. There, I believe, is the rub. Yes, the ND SBoHE has authority over UND's nickname; however, the ND SBoHE must also abide by state law (the ND Century Code). And there is nothing stopping the Legislature from mandating a school moniker. It's really no different than declaring a state motto ("Liberty and Union, Now and Forever, One and Inseparable"), state nickname (Peace Garden State, Rough Rider State, Sioux State), state bird (western meadowlark), state flower (prairie rose), or state dance (the polka?): it is their statement on how the state should be represented. If the Legislature says the moniker will be "Fighting Sioux" the ND SBoHE must live within that. The argument then becomes: Is this smart law? Will UND and the state see a net benefit from this law, or will we just keep litigating with the NCAA?
