Folks, UND has some housekeeping to get taken care of (moniker fiasco) before it is officially (first conference game, any sport, played) in the Big Sky. I'd like that taken care of before I start worrying about other schools and conferences.

The Haj missed a couple, no, actually four key stats: C - Jonathan Toews, Chicago C - Zach Parise, New Jersey A - Matt Greene, Los Angeles A - Drew Stafford, Buffalo

I think you mean Fargo Davies, and it's open now. A second HS in WF is still a couple years out. Given that most of Fargo South's hockey team lives in what is now Davies territory (south of 32nd Ave, the "high rent district" in Fargo) I think South doesn't have many players. I thought I heard they were looking at a co-op with (defunct) Fargo Shanley. PS - I love that Fargo can't find an NDSU graduate to name a HS after so they name them after UND graduates.

The correct new moniker to choose would be ... Irish. See what the NCAA does with that.

Iowa derives from the name of the Kiowa tribe, as Illinois derives from the Illini Confederation of tribes, as Utah derives from the Ute tribe. But again, none of that matters to the NCAA. They have a priapism* for UND and UND alone. * look it up for yourself

Thirty-two teams is not a conference; it's a league (see: National Football League).

The Big XII school (Iowa State) in Ames, IA, and the high school in Ames, IA, have a common nickname: Cyclones. And what's the state nickname of North Dakota: The Rough Rider State. (<-- that existed before GFRRHS did, there's "first in time ... ")

On August 5, 2005, the NCAA deemed "hostile and abusive" monikers of "racial/ethnic/nation origin" derivation. The NCAA can't figure out that Irish and Vandals fit that criteria, but they'd surely figure it out for UND if it picked "Norsemen".

That wasn't it. Like I said somewhere else, Blood's play selection (when to deliver a hit, when to retaliate) has significantly improved. MacWilliam still has some finish work to complete.

All these "new" conferences are tougher to keep track of than recruiting. Has anyone set up a webpage trying to track it all?

Big Sky presidents meet in Utah tomorrow (Oct 18). Dom Izzo on WDAY-TV sounded giddy when he speculated that the UND moniker might be a topic of conversation for the BSC presidents. Folks, quite simply, UND needs to retire this moniker; then, after Spirit Lake whups up on the NCAA (in a Federal discrimination case) the name can be restored by the direction of the Spirit Lake Tribe. Otherwise, UND is screwed.

There's a reason BOC says "Don't fear the reaper" --> Sooner or later the Reaper takes all.

This story embodies everything that won't get NDSU more money from the legislature: - officials who should know better misusing funds they manage today - claiming they didn't know they shouldn't/couldn't do it -- questionable ethics? - not immediately removing a person who isn't a good steward of State/NDSU funds.

So who has the Big XII decided to invite and who will accept the right to be under the conference domination of the "Austin Angus"? Where will that trickle down? And I saw on some news site that the Big East will be adding football members: Who?

1. This thread is to discuss conference realignments. Check the other crap at the web portal. 2. I needed the old thread to keep up with all the changes so it getting locked was a real disappointment to me. 3. I have moderator powers. (Betcha didn't know that.) I haven't ever banned anyone but do wonder how it'd feel, so, in the immortal words of Harry Callahan, "Go ahead, ... make my day." 4. Expect a strict constructionalist interpretation of the forum rules and guidelines.

UND came off the throttles somewhat after they got up three scores on BHSU and it was closer at half than it should have been. This is a game UND should win. That makes it a trap game.

I'm glad to see Kelley and Faison put those messages out there. We all forget to say thank you far too often in life.
