I never get this close to right but here is what I'd do if I were the committee (overall seeds):

West Colorado Springs

(2) Michigan -v- (13) Northeastern

(5) Colorado College -v- (11) Providence

North East Albany

(3) Denver -v- (16) RIT

(6) UND -v- (9) Clarkson

Midwest Madison

(1) Miami -v- (14) Wisconsin

(8) Notre Dame -v- (12) UMD

East Worchester

(4) New Hampshire -v- (15) BSU

(7) Michigan State -v- (10) Boston College

I didn't do any RPI analysis, I just eliminated intraconfrence matchups, maintained 1 -v-4 & 2 -v-3, and of course looked for BIG $$$. The west is great with host CC and an decent traveling Michigan. The NE in Albany should be great as well with two teams in close proximity (by western standards) to Albany; RIT and Clarkson. The midwest bracket keeps #1 overall Miami "close" to home and with UMD and ND able to drive this could set regional records for attendance. In the east we have to HE powerhouses in NH and BC to boster attendance.

I'm sure this is nowhere near what the brackets will look like, but it's sure fun to blow 15-20 minutes trying.

There is an incredibly good chance that I have this all wrong (even after reading the pairwise stuff and the bracketology stuff on USCHO I'm not sure I really understand it) but with my limited knowledge it looks like the WCHA currently has 5 teams in the tourney.

Pairwise as of 1-27-08

1 Miami 24 25-3-0 .8929 1 .6091* 1

2 Michigan 23 22-3-1 .8654 2 .6081* 2

3 Denver 22 18-6-0 .7500 3 .5959* 3

4 New Hampshire 21 15-7-1 .6739 7 .5696* 6

5 Colorado College 20 18-7-1 .7115 5 .5904 4

6 North Dakota 19 16-8-1 .6600 9 .5803 5

7 Michigan State 17 17-5-5 .7222 4 .5659 7

Current conference leaders

Atlantic - RIT

CCHA - Miami

CHA - Bemidji

ECAC - Clarkson

HE - UNH

WCHA - CC

So the only conference leaders not in the top 16 are RIT and Bemidji, so they would take Mass-Lowell and Massachusetts' places to round out the top 16.

Am I anywhere close?

sconnie would probably barley sneak in and be a 4 seed in their own regional. im sure you know this but the conference tourney winners get the auto bid into the tourney so the way you did it is correct saying whos leading the conference right now as we assume they would win the conference tourney to make things less confusing. now is a team jumps up that woulndt be in in this instance and wins their tourney then sconnie would probably be out being on that bubble

Both Michigan and BC in our bracket this week. How lucky are we (we just seem to have a lot of history with these two teams.)

We know we can beat Michigan in a regional, done it two years in a row. And at least we would get BC out of the way before the FF.

just win out the rest of the season and get a 1 seed, or something like that

good for uw and umd to jump in, this forces them to only have 1 wcha free regional

I think if we can atleast get a split this weekend and sweep denver that will go along way towards that, but first things first lets take care of business on friday night.

Awesome another crack at Michigan. I would love to see Red's face after the selection.

Quick question, Is being ranked #3 in the polls behind MU and UM basically mean that UND is the best team in the country??

Apparently there are some pundants in the media that are mad at fans of certain teams that are questioning the moxie of the CCHA teams.

I don't care who you are, every person should be able to question the legitimacy of Miami when they've played the following non-conference teams:

Miami: Vermont, Canisius, RPI, SCSU, and Ohio St.(The last 2 during a tourney)

And, even though they have 12 teams in their conference, how does Miami get off only playing Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame only 1 weekend this year? And 4 of the 6 games are at home.

Michigan State/Michigan/Notre Dame: They play the big 4 of the CCHA(UM/MSU/ND/Miami) 8 times each throughout the regular season. That means they all get to play the bottom 8 of the CCHA at least 20 games this season(22 if you are Miami).

Anybody can look at the standings, but when the bottom 8 of the league are not over .500, everyone is allowed to question the legitimacy IMO when the top 4 teams are playing the other 8 75% of the league games.

im getting sick of michigan right off the bat or bc at that...........every year we have played them in the frozen 4 or regionals so many times............

I agree. It seems that the "traditional powers" are set against each other quite often. Would love to get a look at this Miami team.

Michigan St. has been looking good defensively. They only score on PP, so either that's a good thing if we faced them (our PK %) or a bad thing (our penalties per game).

CCHA hockey sucks, and this year is no exception. I have watched both UM and MU play in Omaha this year, and have not been impressed. UM is alright because of their speed, but they were in a dog fight with UNO (not exactly a threatening opponent). Nothing special about MU. It is such a tiered league with average-to-decent teams beating up on s****y teams, which explains their records. However, Im not exactly sold on UND being the number 1 team... yet (we'll see how the DU series goes)

I hope Bemidji State gets a crack at one these CCHA elite teams and knocks them out early in the tournament.

The thing that kills me is we flat out ran MSU out of the building when we played, this same team actually lost two games to Miami and beat CCHA powerhouse Michigan. OF course the MSU coach Comley says that Miami was the best team they say this year. What gives. I saw the Miami and UNO game and I am not sold on MU or Zakhof (sp) this is the same guy that sat behind Frazee at the WJC.

we kileld them but it was the first game of the season. i do think we are bettre than msu either way but you could go around the country and find wierd combos of us beating a team that lose to another team that loss to another and so forth....miami is very good but not top 4 good imo, they dont play anyone to get a real test in the wcha or hockey east...weak scheduling will hurt you in the end

According to this week's INCH podcast the bottom 7 teams in the WCHA are "mediocre," so everyone needs to get their facts straight. CCHA rules!!!

I'm guessing that UW, UMN, SCSU, MTU, etc would give any CCHA team a run for their money. In fact, they already have this season. 8th place SCSU lost to Miami in OT this year, despite outshooting them. 7th place MTU beat MSU and lost to UM in 2OT. 6th place UMN is 1-1-1 against UM and MSU this year.

That's not showing too much CCHA dominance when their top 3 teams can barely beat (or get beaten by) our 6th-8th place teams.

It's going to be great in the NCAA's when UM, MSU, Miami, and Notre Dame all lose to "lesser" WCHA and HEA opponents. :D
