Blackheart
What are the chances of Oshie and Duncan returning next year? Could we see Duncan, Oshie, and (David) Toews on a line...how sweet would that be? Or do I need to pass the crack pipe? crack pipe.
Blackheart
I hate the purple cows as much as the next guy, but I'm reading about going after their goons when we get up by 4-5 goals. Mansucko has usually played the Sioux tough so I would be happy with a couple 1 goal wins or a win and a tie. I would not be surprised if they surprised the Sioux on Friday night. Go Sioux!! Go Sioux!! i think its more of if we get a big lead then thats what they seem to do under jutting so ya never know what could happen. if they wana get cheap then we will have a couple guys whoop their azzes we dropped 32 goals on them in 6 games last season. 5 wins and a 4-4 tie, this would be a hell of a weekend to open the floodgates and really score some goals! lets hope it happens go sioux - sweep the landcows and get out of town

Diggler
According to an eyewitness, Minnesota State assistant coach Eric Means walked roughly 30 feet down the hall from the team locker room to the door of the officials’ locker room and confronted referee Jon Campion. In the game, Minnesota had seven power plays, while the Mavericks had two. One person on the scene said Means unleashed a profanity-laced tirade at Campion. Mavericks head coach Troy Jutting then asked for a word with Campion. After Campion and the coaches exchanged heated words, Means allegedly charged at the referee offering to fight, before several campus police officers separated them and physically escorted Means and Jutting back to the Mavericks locker room door. sorry, had to go there...i kid i kid I already went there with my awesome blog, so it's not like you're special. AZSIOUX
Jones and Defense article But Jones, still without a point on the season, has been every bit as important as the others, Hakstol says.
yzerman19
Great article. Love Jonesey. However, Big Joe leads the WCHA in +/-. That is tough to knock

That is tough to knock +/- has always been a overrated stat to me. thats not knocking joe at all as it shows hes on the ice for some nice even strength goals but it doesnt tell the whole story of a D man. jones is rock solid and is a nice player to mix up with our more offensive d men

I'm curious as to why? If you're on the ice when your team is scoring more than when you're getting scored on, especially as a defenseman, you're doing your job. Some defenseman, like Finley, are not big-time offensive defenseman and are not going to put up a bunch of goals and assists. As a coach, the only stat that I cared about was each player's +/-. I could have cared less who had 52 goals and 35 assists. What stat then, do you think, would tell the whole story, or a better story than +/-? yzerman19
#1 stat for a defenseman IMO is opponent scoring chances allowed. #2 is just minuses.

Typically our forwards would have huge goal and assist numbers, but for the D all I really cared about was +/-. When it came down to a 1 goal game in the last 1:30 or so, I knew the guys on our team that didn't get scored on, and they were on the ice. yzerman19
I look for a defenseman to be able to do 3 things fairly well. 1. Not give up scoring chances. This means no odd-mans, play the puck when appropriate, play the body when appropriate, tie up forwards crashing the net and don not let them shoot. 2. Transition the puck up the ice. Have to be able to make good breakout passes and be able to skate the puck up out of your defensive zone yourself if need be. 3. Be a calming presence in the offensive zone. I want all forwards to be confident that if they get in trouble with the puck, the points are there to bail them out and restart everything. To be truly elite, you also should also be able to QB the powerplay, anticipate well, and really be able to lay the body.
