Goon
I have seen this written all over the place today mostly from our buddies to the south and it has to be one of the more stupid things I have seen written in quite sometime. The argument goes that since Toews is no longer a Fighting Sioux now we will see how over-rated Duncan is and that the real hobey winner left town today. Now if I remember right Duncan got the points when Oshie and Toews had rough beginnings of the season. Also, the year before I don't rememer him playing with Toews a lot so I think we can debunk that argument right away.

Vandevelde and Oshie aren't exactly crap. VV made some very impressive passes over the season. Some of them were shot and went in, most, though, weren't able to be finished. I can't imagine some of those great passes VV makes going unfinished if he is placed on that line. That's why he's my favorite to take Toews' spot. Oshie-VV-Duncan Unfortunately, that makes it the D-VO line
JoeMorelli
If Duncan was over-rated, he would have been drafted by the Maple Leafs. Kidding...but since he went undrafted, I think that shows he isn't over-rated. Maybe he should drop out, sign with the Hawks, and play on a line with JT. JT can keep covering for his ass and Duncan can score 30-40 goals/year. (is there a sarcasm font?) In the new NHL, I personally believe that Duncan has the potential to be another Dino Ciccarelli-type of player. As long as the NHL keeps calling penalties and Duncan keeps going to the net, he has the talent and shot to score 20+ goals/season. At the very least, he could become like Jeff Hamilton of the Hawks...a 4th line player and PP specialist.
USA Hockey
It must have been all Toews and Oshie. After all, Duncan wasn't playing well in the begining of the year when they were out of the lineup
Diggler
So Gopher fans think Duncan will be the next Okposo? Only with a better complexion. And a Hobey.

After all, Duncan wasn't playing well in the begining of the year when they were out of the lineup Out of the lineup? Toews only missed a couple games with a banged up shoulder (not counting the WJC's,) and TJ played every game with his injuries through the first half of the year. Hell, I remember when Toews got banged up, he went down the tunnel and came back out to the bench two or three times before he finally went to the locker room and stayed. You would have a hard time keeping JT, and TJ off of the ice even with an injury (depending on the severity of course.)

I am disappointed that you would care enough about what is written on another teams site to generate a thread out of it. Clearly the other teams didn't follow the Sioux close enough to see that it was the D who was doing all the scoring while the O and T were either injured or playing elsewhere. The story of Duncan's entire hockey career has been no respect and I honestly believe that, like Martin St Louis, he enjoys proving all the doubters wrong each and every season. Other teams can only dream of having a player with a heart as big as Dunc's.
HockeyMom
Duncan is a great hockey player. The only thing that surprizes me about him is how humble he is. He'll have a great season next year no matter who's on the line with him. He's a great kid, with a great future ahead of him......the people spouting off that he's not going to have a good year next year, are the ones that are jealous that he's wearing kelly green. The Sicatoka
This "7 and 9 make 16" crap (outside of math class) is just that. Oshie and Toews never played a game in the BCHL and yet, somehow, Duncan finished in the top three in scoring in that league one year. Explain that away. Cardinal
Not trying to flame here, but I'm assuming 'buddies to the south' means Gopher fans. And if that's the case, where have they said that Duncan is / was "over-rated?" In some place other than GPL or USCHO? On GPL, it was said that "Whether Sioux fans believe it or not, there goes the real Hobey talent." I don't think there's a person out there that believes Duncan is a better play that Toews. Duncan had a great year, but I'm willing to bet that if most Sioux fans had to choose between having either Duncan or Toews for next season, a vast majority would choose Toews. Again, not taking anything away from Duncan. It just speaks to what a great player Toews is, just like the following quote from GPL does: "No doubt. In my opinion he [Toews] was the best player in college hockey last year, Duncan had a great year, but if I could have one player from the Sioux roster Toews would be the guy." You guys have to quit trying to find things to complain about...
siouxnami
I think what people will eventually come to realize is that Duncan makes players around him better just as much as other make him better.
Vegas
I think what people will eventually come to realize is that Duncan makes players around him better just as much as other make him better. Duncan is a sniper. He'll get his share of goals with or without Toews. It will just be a little harder next year. If Duncan puts on a few pounds over the summer, I don't see why he can't score as much if not more. Duncan will be a great collegiate hockey player. Someone mentioned St. Louis. Well St. Louis probably has about 20 to 30 Ibs on Duncan. I'm not saying Duncan can't play in the NHL, just saying he has to get some mass to him if he wants to play an 84 game schedule along with playoffs and be as effective as St. Louis. Maybe so, but I believe that members of the same fanbase as the commenter are more likely to pass off comments made by the commenter and give him the benefit of the doubt than people outside of the fanbase. To me, a comment like that doesnt really say how good Toews is (or now was) but rather that Toews deserved the Hobey more than Duncan, which isn't true. DI hockey doesn't have a player award for a college career. They only have awards for individual accomplishments on a per season basis (ok, maybe the humanitarian award can cumulate). The argument we see isn't a Toews vs Duncan talent comparison. It's a Hobey worthiness comparison and that's rather sad to have Gopher fans take away from the accomplishments that any player outside of their program has done. If that were the case, maybe I should look into why Bonin won the Hobey. He's a small player, his stats add up to deserving...why should i look any further into that? You think it's "dumb" that he left for selfish reasons and you wanted him to stay, or you think it's "dumb" that he left because he won't fit in with the Blackhawks and the NHL and you think he needed 1 more year to develop and UND? sagard
I don't see any reason Duncan won't have another very good season. He has the scorer's knack. The key to the Sioux being the big time team they were the last half of the season will be Lamoureux playing great and finding the additional scoring to compliment Duncan/Oshie and the bluelines contributions. Everyone "down south" can only hope. Again, you guys are missing it. People "down south" aren't saying that Duncan is now "eliminated from the picture." They are saying that despite the fact Duncan won the Hobey Baker, Toews was the better player. In my initial post, I asked if any Sioux fans didn't agree with this, and so far no one has objected. This is a perfect example of the halo syndrome. Nobody is slighting UND here. In this case, I posted becasue this thread is trying to prove a point that is 99.9 percent false, and if nobody mentions the facts, people will pile on a premise that isn't true.
