The meteoric rise of Jonathan Toews

Although Jonathan Toews just celebrated his 19th birthday on April 29, his poise and composure are well beyond his tender years. That's enabled the talented forward to gain a spot on Team Canada at the 2007 IIHF World Championship. IHWC.NET's Andrew Podnieks reports.

Toews is still playing because so many players said no to Steve Yzerman following their teams elimination from the NHL playoffs. No one is expecting very much from this team but it should be a great experience for JT regardless. Right now they are getting outplayed by Norway. :silly: Ouch! Score is 1-1

Canada goes up 2-1, 15:17 into the first period

2 goals on 5 shots, not too bad for a team that is being outshot 11 to 5

Goals by Nash (Hamhuis, Toews) and Chimera (McClement)

It looks like Nash's goal and Toews assist was on the powerplay.

not suprising news, many players still in playoffs or hurt, that opened door for JT and he ran with it, i dont believe you can change roster mid tourney so hes still playing because he made the team....

It was, Toews, Nash and Doan are the number one line and are thrown on as the first PP unit.

Correct, Canada will only add one more player from the current playoff round and it will likely be a forward. Based on the team's play thus far Toews will likely continue playing for the remainder of the tournament. Remember what Hrkac did immediately following a stint with Team Canada at the Olympics. I am hoping for an encore performance. :silly:

Toews got a penalty for illegal of dangerous equipment. Two questions.

1. Was he playing with a broken stick or what?

2. Is this a violation of his probation? :D

Norway scored the tying goal on that PP. WTG! Maybe UND will be better off without you if that's the way you're gonna play. :silly:

Shane Doan scores to put Canada back up 3-2

4-2 Canada goal by Justin Williams (Murphy).... 3rd PP goal of the game by Canada

Canada wins 4-2

Toews ends up with an assist and two penalties. Commodore with one penalty.

Typical entitled youth behavior. :silly:

He was probably waiting for the officials to blow the whistle which is what they will do if you lose your helmet in either junior international or college hockey. :silly: He kept playing after he lost his helmet instead of heading to the bench.

You are correct

Andersen's wrist shot from the high slot tied the game 2-2 at 12:14 with Canada's Jonathan Toews in the penalty box for continuing to play after having his helmet knocked off.

Anyone else notice the two other former Sioux mentioned in this article: James Patrick and Gord Sherven? Team Canada has only done this two other times which means three of the only five players in Team Canada history to be pulled up like Toews were Fighting Sioux! Says a lot about the caliber of players we have had over the years.
