If you're a transfer, freshman or sophomore Jesse has no problem pulling you out the game.  He's real strong with these three groups of student players.  If you're in these three categories, and if you hit one or two balls out Jesse will pull you from the game.  Although, those juniors and seniors that have been here for 3 or 4 years can hit out as many balls as they choose with no repercussion. Why are the back row players reaching up and trying to keep a ball in play that's coming at their face on serve and receive? I thought it was volleyball 101 that if the ball comes at your face or it's higher than your head that you let the ball go out of bounds. 

As I attended tonight's game, I don't think we need an all around person or we need a different person as the all around.  The around player cost the team so many points on the serve and receive by not being able to pass the ball easily to the setter.  Coach Jesse failed to make a change, and allowed the player to stay in without making a change. 

There was such a breath of fresh air when Tupac finally put in a freshman back row player that passed the ball smoothly to the setter.  Can someone please ask Jesse why is he always playing the juniors and seniors that have been here forever, and they have a negative hitting percentage.  

Here's my message to Tupac you can't force LEADERSHIP on a person. Leaders take leadership, and sometimes it takes time to develop people into being great, and that's if they develop into a leader!  We have the right players to WIN![

 

I disagree I don’t think the freshmen were any better at all. I was hopeful for this season but watching these games the teams we play are just better. I don’t see much in this freshmen group that demonstrates they can lead this team to winning games in the summit

College town vibes with lots of restaurants, target, Sam’s club, etc. without being too big of a city. Safe. Community that lives and breathes UND sports.  Tons of brand new housing options near campus. Airport that flys delta and 1 hr to Fargo airport with more options. Top aviation school in the country. Brand new buildings all over campus. Business school. Med school. Law school. PT and OT programs. So many graduate and PhD options. Best hockey arena and fans by far. Beautiful volleyball/basketball facilities (new locker room, training room, fueling stations, film room. 
 

There are some negatives obviously, but you focus on the positives and get them here for a visit. Then hopefully your team culture and coaching staff gets them to commit.

Once again I think Jesse has all the right pieces to win, but I think his wins will come from the freshmen, sophomores, and transfer athletes.  Although, these three groups of players must beware because if they hit one if not two balls out he will sit them. Here's something no one has mention.  Is it possible that Tupac is looking to be replaced before his contract expires so he can receive a buyout?  Those in the Grand Forks area agree with me that we've never seen this type of coaching before from any other coaches.  

He's creating projects instead of placing the right personnel on the court to win.  WE HAVE THE RIGHT PLAYERS!

You are right. So many people in the USA want to come to Grand Forks. There is nothing we can do about it on this forum, and we can ask for new coaches to be hired but look at how hires have panned out at UND over the years it isnt pretty. Expectations are not consistent with reality.

I disagree. This game is showing once again we don’t have the right players. The staff haven’t been able to recruit the athletes that are able to excel at this level in my opinion. But I understand you see it differently that’s why we have these forums.

Didn't get to see it but UND started the conf. season with a win.  How'd they look?  USD still a formidable foe?

We looked awesome. Barber had a career night. We played a lot of freshman too. I am pleasantly surprised. We broke a fifteen game losing streak to USD.

congratulations on the win!  Barber is really good.  I watched the match and looked through the stats, and really, both teams played relatively well.  I don't know what was happening in your non-conference games, but that didn't look like a 280-ranked team yesterday.

I'll say that there were times when there was maybe some bad passing, communication issues and out-of-system play from the Hawks, but when in-system they looked as good as anyone in the conference IMHO.  So if consistency is the problem, I would assume you will improve that through the season.  Maybe will have some up days and down days.

I wonder if there were some issues with USD's blocking schemes that Coach Tupac was exploiting?  Barber hit .333 on the match, so we couldn't really contain her very well at the net.  IDK, I'm no expert. 

Also, good on you for having over 800 attendance and a full pep band for a team with a losing record.  You won't see that in very many places.  Good luck on the season

Hopefully the attendance grows with some wins. It used to be much higher than that for volleyball but the records the last few seasons have killed it a bit

Yes it is a lot more quiet at games just now. Last night was a great win congratulations to the ladies and coaches.

Yes, don’t take my comments as a backhanded compliment or anything.  In this league 800 is a top-half attendance, and for a team with consecutive losing seasons, that’s more than respectable, that’s outstanding.  When Coach Tupac gets the Hawks back to the a contender, I have no doubt your fans will come out of the woodwork.  Great support for women’s sports.  Cheers
