DL and J-town will likely be pretty evenly matched. Both have been a bit of a surprise thus far. J-town sitting in 3rd in the WDA currently, and DL beating WF and having close games with GFC+RR and being in the mix with all the F and WF teams. I don't recall a year where both the EDC and WDA are so even top to bottom. In the EDC it appears even GFC is capable of losing to a #5-#8 team on any given night. And the WDA with the exception of Minot appears to be pretty open from #2 all the way through. It should make for some exciting con tourneys! You'd have to ask our AD that one Quote

I think a ton of kids would love to be able to pad the stats against this G-PR team this year. The top end WDA teams don't even play Hazen with their varsity, and havent for years, at all and the others only play them once. With the Minot North team coming online here next year I think that gets worse so that teams can keep some non-con games. Quote

When's the last time kids from Minot with the skill set of Morelli and Panasuk actually stuck around through their SR years? Minot has produced a ton of kids of that caliber but I don't recall any of them ever sticking through their SR year, so those 2 alone have brought a lot of skill and excitement to the WDA that has been lacking for a long time. In the past they left early which hurt the top end competiveness of the west. Bismarck has spread it's talent through 3 teams which still seems to be hurting BHS but even they are better than the past 2 seasons. And Mandan consistently showcasing some good talent and top western teams was never really a reality in the past. In the east, I'd say yes both GF teams are both down on average along with FSS, but I'd argue GPR, DL, WFS, and WF are all well above their average which has brought a more competitive and well-rounded EDC schedule for everyone this year. There are very few blow outs this season compared to essentially every other year in the past decade. #1 and #2 are having close games with #6 - #8 for the most part which is really rare. So between more top end talent sticking around, and the bulk of the top scorers across the board coming from Sophmores and Juniors, I'd say things are actually trending slightly up for NDHSH for the first time in a long time. 2 hours ago, yzerman19 said: I think he was emphasizing that defense and goaltending is dragging down the talent level Exactly, the defense and goaltending as a whole is on a completely abhorrent level of skillsets overall this season. Don't get too caught up in statistical production, some SOs & JRs are putting up numbers but again the defensive skillsets are atrociously lacking overall that those numbers are being put up against. Its greatly magnifying the forwards perceptions of them, but the real hockey skillsets are not any better than before. Top enders are still top enders but the "middle of the roaders" skillset wise, are excelling this year in riding those tops for points and ice time across the state. Coming up with an all WDA/EDC or All State Forward selections are going to be tough with all the production happening, but for D selections its basically going to be a bingo machine and politicing. Of notables I've watched I really like Quamme's game and Eckart has done really well for Century, Arneson is solid, but those are some of the exceptions that rise above the mediocre that come to mind at the moment. Meh, agree to disagree. Although on-paper doesn't always tell the story, I have a hard time agreeing with this due to the fact there have already been 22 shutouts this season and 5 of the 20 starting goalies have .900 or better save percentages. And from what I have seen in person, it's been all low scoring games with tight defense and minimal high quality scoring chances. Both our experiences are anecdotal compared to the big picture, thus my reasoning for going to the stats again. Even a top tier decade type player like Mattern went pointless against the #8 team in the EDC this year (DL). GPR, WF and RR appear to have some tendy+defensive issues but outside of that it appears everything is pretty normal this year or actually even tighter strong defense than normal in most cases. Quote
Johnny Five Posted Saturday at 02:30 PM Posted Saturday at 02:30 PM It's probably not the Minot - BHS 8-7 championship in 1991 caliber of goaltending/defense though lol. Quote
Wilbur Posted Saturday at 11:51 PM Posted Saturday at 11:51 PM Central beats EGF today 3-0. Looks like they got some goaltending today. Minot was up 4-0 on North after 1, then according to the scoresheet, had to put their normal starter in after North made it 4-3, which was the final. Jamestown beat Williston 3-1. The Yotes played Century tough yesterday, then a long bus trip today, but couldn't get it done. The Jays win both this weekend. Legacy nips Mandan, who is also playing well, after taking Century to OT on Thursday. Quote

CHS was down one top F that game, then down 2 more against Willy Friday after a hard fought game Thursday. Legacy-Mandan another tough battle. Could've easily gone too Mandan. Legacy relying on depth with 2 guys out. After Minot, the West is wide open. And don't look now, BOTT is in the mix. Quote

Biggest thing v Minot - stay outta the box. They're deadly, in fact according to Gillen's site, operating at 40% on the PP. Quote
Wilbur Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Looks as though WDA will be as wide open as the EDC. I hadn't seen Mandan until I watched them play Century, and man did they battle. Had chances to win it as well. Lots of jockeying for seeding outside of Minot and Central having the top seeds locked up. Quote
