UND has 32 games on it's schedule (1 exhibition game and a 2 team MTE in Arkansas.  SO that leaves 29 scheduled games. Minus 16 conference games, which leaves us at 13 games to schedule.

Iowa- buy game probably in the neighborhood of 80-100K

Elon- Home and Home from last season

Pacific- home and home from last season

CS Fullerton- home and home from last season

UC Riverside- pairing a game with CS Fullerton road trip

Portland- Home and home from last season

Utah Tech- I believe this is year 4 or 5 of a 6 year contract for games after Utah Tech made the jump to D1- 

Nebraska- Buy game probably in the same neighborhood of the Iowa buy game amount

Big Sky/Summit League Challenge- No Colorado and Northern AZ- scheduled by the AD's and conference Commissioners.

Then you have the 3 Non D1 games- let's look at potential reasons why:

Nov. 16 vs. VCSU  ndac- first two games are @ Iowa and home vs Elon- and then 3 in a row @ Pacific and in Arkansas- need to schedule a home game with a good chance of winning- You're not going to be able to pay another "Like conference" opponent to travel for a one and done on a Thursday.

Nov. 28 vs Concordia- sdac coming off the 3 game road stretch- Need a home game to avoid playing 5 games straight on the road. Need a winnable game in case the 3 game road trip doesn't go well.

Dec. 12 vs. Waldorf- usd  Finals week- schedule with former UND alum Nigel Jenkins- get a 2nd home game for finals week and not go on the road. Most other schools are in finals this week also and are looking to stay at home or close to home.

 

These schedules are made 2-3 years in advance with planning around yourself and 340+ other schools.. it's not just simple and easy to call Ben Jacobsen or Tim Miles and say "hey come up on December 5th and play a game vs us" 

 

I can guarantee you that UND tries to play good regional teams or other mid majors that may have a connection to this region, but it takes 2 staffs, and 2 ad's to agree for a game, and the financial piece is always there as well.

Paul Ralston on the radio did not sound very optimistic about Brady D’s ankle. That should mean more minutes for Brooks and Mara. I’m all for that!

Sucks, that guys poured a lot of his heart and soul into this team. Hope for a speedy recovery for him. It does offer more minutes for others though and I am excited to see more Mara.

No team in the entire country is going to play a conference opponent in the non conference season. That's why it's dumb.

For a conference that loses most of it's D1 non conference games, how much, specifically, would a few extra conf vs conf games hurt?  Say it's even just one extra vs NDSU every year.  Is there any evedence to suggest that it would actually affect the conference negatively?  Because it's not like this is FCS football.  The Summit is a one bid league.  If anything, the extra revenue would probably make more of a difference in the long run, imo.  The incremental ticket revenue gained from playing NDSU vs a Mayville could go towards getting non conf D1 oppenents to the betty, or it could go towards the assistant coaches salary pool, food for the team, etc.  At least a NDSU vs UND game keeps the conf winning percentage at .500 for the game.  If that's a problem, play THEM in the exhibition game to kick off the year.

I get that.  I'm asking for specific reasons.  Just saying NO isn't really contributing anything of value.  Why not teach us why so the topic doesn't continue to get brought up?

The specific reason has been stated multiple times already. There isn't a team in the country that is going to schedule a conference opponent during the non conference season. You are already playing those teams 2 times a year maybe 3... why would you sign up for a potential 4th game against  a conference opponent??

Ok, you win... UND should just schedule all Summit league teams one extra game in the non league slate. That way we can play everyone in the Summit 3 times a year. Fans wouldn't get sick of that at all and the players and coaches would love it.
