SiouxVolley Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Offering all UND's sports and more, having an elitist MSP attitude, would the UST-UND rivalry exceed all others? Like little Gophers in all sports, If the build a new arena on campus, if they get in the NCHC with that arena, and getting a DI waiver from the NCAA which appear to be likely now to me. In addition. their use of Allianz Field for fb could be huge. Quote
SWSiouxMN Posted October 7, 2019 Posted October 7, 2019 Prominent? Probably not Secondary rival after the Dakota schools? I could buy it 1 Quote

Dakota schools will be ahead of them, followed by Denver and Omaha, And then you could throw St. Thomas in there. Quote
BarnWinterSportsEngelstad Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Not even close. So much history with MN in hockey The same with the other 3 Dakota schools in other sports. Quote

No longer play Gophers in conference. Quote

No longer play Gophers in conference. Every game we still play with the Goofs is a magnet to the fans. Don't those games have the highest price college hockey tickets in the country, no matter where they play? Quote

Many UND fans in the Twin Cities metro would attend, along with UST fans. That all helps UST ticket sales, how does that help us? Games at The Ralph with UST would not compare with the Goofs as far as that magnet goes. Quote

Anytime, fans attend UND games, even away, that helps because they will more likely travel. Quote
SiouxFan100 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 I find it interesting with st Thomas going d1. Could see going to a basketball game in the cities. 2 Quote
Siouxperfan7 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Start off with a little "Gopher Rejects" cheer and see where it goes!! 1 Quote
siouxfan512 Posted October 28, 2021 Posted October 28, 2021 Reading back on some of the old comments, it looks like what is primarily being discussed in monetary between UND and St Thomas. If UND goes to play St Thomas at the X, St Thomas would reap the financial benefits; good for them. You never know what is going to happen in a series that will create a rivalry. Fight, dirty plays, a close loss. Way way back in the day a Gopher loss to a Wisconsin club team is what started that rivalry. And for anyone who remembers the Robbie Bina CFB, that really triggered everything that became the UND/DU rivalry, followed by some great hockey games, and some epic playoff games. Being conference foes helps there, but my point is you never know what will cause this to be a rivalry, but proximity always helps. Schedule regular games with St Thomas, and you always have an extra "home" game on the schedule, because fans in the TC will swarm to the X to watch UND play. Quote
