It was thought that McPhee would do his former team a favor. Next is a trade to Colorado or Montreal. Quote
The Sicatoka Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Technically, right now only CHI has a higher cap number than VGK! https://www.capfriendly.com/ And hokeysmokes!!! ... Look at the collection of draft picks they've acquired so far. I really believe they're going to be shopping those for a #1/#2 center come Friday and Saturday. https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/goldenknights Quote

The Sicatoka Posted June 22, 2017 Posted June 22, 2017 Relooking at VGK's cap number (https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/goldenknights) $10M of that is LTIR for two guys (Clarkson, Grabovski). You might as well admit that money is freed up already. They'll be put onto LTIR ASAP and the money comes off the cap number. Quote

Matt Murray has a career record of 41 wins and 12 losses. By the end of what will be his SECOND full season in the NHL, he will likely be in the top 5 winningest goalies in franchise history. And he already owns 2 Stanley Cup rings. If the Penguins win 9 of the next 10 Stanley Cups with Murray in between the pipes, you'll be the one Penguins fan complaining that had Marc-Andre Fleury been there instead, they'd have won all 10. Well, you along with DaveK... 4 Quote

Put Jeff Zatkoff back in there and they would have won those same 41 games. The thing is they aren't winning because of Murray, they're winning in spite of him. But if Marc-Andre Fleury is in net with the exact same team playing in front of him, he's the greatest goalie of all time? Quote

The way the bracket worked out this year, the 1st and 2nd rounds provided the toughest opponents the Pens would have to go through on their way to the cup. They beat Columbus and Washington based on how great the goaltending was, they beat Ottawa and Nashville based on how well the rest of the team played. Look at the goal support as well as the number of shots and quality of shots that each goalie faced and it becomes very clear that it was a difference of night and day. If Murray doesn't get hurt prior to Game 1 of the 1st round the Pens get swept in the 2nd round (that is if they manage to survive the 1st round). What do 41 regular season wins have to do with this year's playoff bracket? Quote

cberkas Posted June 26, 2017 Author Posted June 26, 2017 Vokoun had the same team that Fleury had in front of him, Vokoun lead the Penguins to the conference finals in 2013 with the same team that Fleury had. Fleury hasn't got his team past the second round since 2009. Quote

Many of those 8 years they were really not even good enough to deserve a playoff berth, but Fleury managed to steal enough wins to keep them in contention year in and year out. That's what great goalies do. But Vokoun got them to the Eastern Conference Finals, and Murray that AHL backup lead them to the Cup in back-to-back seasons. cberkas Posted July 1, 2017 Author Posted July 1, 2017 Vegas let Berube (Islanders pick) and Thorburn (Jets pick) hit free agency. Berube was signed by Chicago and Thorbrun was signed by St. Louis. Two picks by Vegas that could have been better players. Grabovski will not be cleared to play for the Golden Knights. Edit: Connor Brickley (Carolina puck) was also let go by Vegas. Quote
