that's why you can get soe good odds o some teams right now, they won't rally get the odds straight until the field is set. i had to ave the guy dig in the back for the ncaa hockey futures and from what i ave heard, the flamingo is the only place taking any money on college hockey right now

Maine at 6-1 offers good potential payoff.

Ditto UNH at 8-1, considering they get "home ice" for regionals.

Of course the only winning tickets will say NORTH DAKOTA on them.

Don't forget about Duluth. One would be a fool not to lay some money down on them. How they are 10-1 & SCSU is 6-1 is beyond me. Sounds like they just drew some names out of a hat on some of these picks.

The odds do not solely reflect the talent of the team. Guido and the boys take into account who is betting, the history (UMD never won), and other factors - injuries etc... As people place bets the odds change to reflect that - they make $$ no matter what.

My old man won $1800 in 97 - placed $100 on the Sioux 18-1 odds. I believe MI was something like 3-2 that year. Wish I had that kind of luck. :D

FWIW: The guys who "make book" on college hockey don't pay as much attention to it as they do bouncyball, football, etc. A few years ago, a few buddies and I actually considered setting up an "online book" in Antigua for college hockey and other "neglected" sports. Good excuse to get out of the country, golf and never wear a collared shirt, but the uptight yahoos at the FBI and Treasury tend to "frown upon" these ventures. ;):D

Antigua has had an extradition treaty since 96, there are a few Caribbean nations that do not have them, you would probably not want to live in them though. Extradition Treaties

Of course I'm not condoning this type of behavior. :)

It's true... the FBI will make you wear a collar on the golf course all the time. (bastards) ;)

Now as for your little betting game, I'm in. ???:p

Do I have to give the "The Odds 101" lecture again? ;):D

The odds are set so The House breaks even no matter who wins.

Minnesota's 8-5 means that yes, they have a contender, but they also have a lot of fans willing to "lay down" on them. More people putting money on a team means that The House has to shorten the odds.

It's best looked at in college football:

Say Ohio State is playing Toledo. OSU has a huge following. Everyone wants to bet on OSU and no one on Toledo. That will imbalance the books for The House (they'll have to pay out) if OSU wins.

How do they level them? Offer points to people to bet on Toledo. More money on Toledo is more money to balance the books.

The odds are set such that no matter who wins The House doesn't lose money: A fans pay B or B fans pay A; and of course The House takes their "handle" off the transaction.

Not to make myself sound smart (it's quite hard for me to do that), but I believe you mean your dad won $1700. Since he placed $100 on the bet and got $1800 back he gained $1700. Sorry that just caught my eye. That's some sweet action though my friend.

Maybe you should get better sources. ;)

I took these right off the ncaa college hockey futures that the guy behind the cage at the flamingo handed me when i asked him if he had any ncaa hockey odds aailable. so he either has a rather elaborate scam going or the flamingo does have a sportsbook. i actually went to the I. P. first and they sent me to the flamingo. :D

My source could be wrong. I thought it sounded funny...but he's an avid gambler so I assumed he knew what he was talking about. ;)

Not so, he placed the $100 early on in the year and received $1800 in April, by then he forgot about the $100 he spent. ;)

If we are going to get real technical, he had gross winnings of $1800 and net winnings of $1700. Or as I see it he won a hell of a lot more money than I've won (which is $7 on the powerball). :D

Just talked to the old man he put down another $100 on the sioux when he was in Vegas in Jan - odds were 3-1.
