ArchyAlum11 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 Just wanted to see what people thought of the NCHC and the WCHA doing a challenge Tourney, These are two league with teams that have some fairly recent history and similar geography. Anyone else think it could make for good hockey? Quote
bale31 Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 On the top 3-4 teams it would be good. The bottom of the wcha is really, really bad. Hockey wouldn't necessarily be good in the bottom half, but potentially good for the leagues through cross promotion. Right now it probably would benefit the wcha more. In the long run, who knows. cberkas Posted January 12, 2016 Posted January 12, 2016 I rather it be a NCHC-B1G challenge then a NCHC-WCHA challenge. The competition would be better with the B1G then the WCHA. Looks like the B1G-Hockey East challenge didn't last long. Quote

LSSU is really a bit of a lost cause at point, really unfortunate. However Alabama has actually done pretty well over the last few years considering the program was saved at the 11th hour for being disbanded, a lot of that is thanks to some top notch goal tending from Carmine Guerriero. But the competition would have to be between the NCHC and Minnesota State, Michigan Tech, or Bowling Green. Its tough to nail down who the Fourth team depending on the year it would be either Ferris State, Northern Michigan or Bemidji Quote
bale31 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 It definitely depends on the year with that fourth team. It could have been Alaska last year, but for their ridiculous penalty from the ncaa. Ferris is often an option. Bemidji has been a disappointment so far within the league. Lssu is definitely having a tough time. I have hope for them under their new coach. He has.pretty much come.out and said it's a 5-year turnaround project for them. They do have some pretty decent games now and then and they are becoming more fundamentally sound, but their talent is sorely lacking. Quote
Fetch Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 would be a fun xmas tourney But NO to the pig 10 Quote
nodak651 Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Not interested. NCHC plays the WCHA all the time. Count me in on ECAC or Big Ten or Hockey East. 1 Quote

That would Be a good idea, the Elite of the East vs the Elite of the West. Maybe make it a multi league invitational based of preseason polls or something. Shoot you could even do it in Vegas and you'd probably get a high attendance. Quote
SiouxFanatic Posted January 13, 2016 Posted January 13, 2016 Other than Bemidji, the only other team in the WCHA that I hope UND will resume playing on a regular or semi-regular basis is Mankato. Be nice to have another away series that many fans would be able to go to if they wanted to attend. 1 Quote

Kato's fan-base has grown a lot too, their arena has undergone a major renovation too, its a much better venue now. Quote
