That Friday game against UAA, it looked like Buddish did exactly this. Maybe not trying to put himself at risk, but trying to draw the penalty by turning right before the UAA player hit him. The ref of course gave the 5 minutes to the Gophers who were down by 1 with a few minutes left I believe. The game was over at that point.

True, but I think he instinctively turned to protect the puck along the boards therefore his back was then facing the UAA player. Maybe it happens more than I think but its hard for me to believe that players would willingly put themselves in that defenseless and dangerous position in order to draw a penalty.

Budish was engaged with a player, and was turning to keep the puck in the zone--not to get himself killed. Or should he have just chipped the puck out of the offensive zone?

You must know these guys and are trying to be nice to them. "Fun to listen to" would not be words that I'd use to describe what I just wasted an hour on, and "they do a good job" and "they know their hockey" would not be words I'd use to describe those 3 stooges. Sorry...

AZ is sucking up to them for whatever reason... I met Jup and sat next to him at the Final Five, nice enough guy. To say that their podcast is good, I suppose if you're a Gopher fan, yeah they're "remotely" Entertaining...

I'm not questioning his play on the puck but it looked like it shouldn't have been called a penalty or at least not a 5 minute major because he turned so late. That was a huge influence in the outcome of that game. I just don't like refs calling majors on a play that the checking player is not at fault for.

How often do you see multiple goals scored on a major? Not very. The gophers did get a bit of a gift but it was certainly at least a 2 min boarding call, and they scored less than 2 min into the PP.

But why are you still talking about this game anyways? Figured would have moved past it by now.

the gophers scored two there and denver did it to us last month. I can't remember the last time UND scored two on a 5 minute major, I think it was in feb 2008 aganist bemdji but I might be wrong, in fact I can't remember the last time we scored on a 5 min major period.

ask bjugstad, hasn't he drawn like three cfb's penalties this season. if I'm a UNDplayer I don't touch him if he is anywhere near a wall.

The game I saw bjugstad was standing face towards the boards and I don't think he was hunched and the guy hit him and got a 5, I think Goon had a clip of it. It seemed like a really weak call considering bjugstads size, I think its the weakest 5 iv ever seen, should've been a 2 min boarding if that, I wouldnt even expect a sioux player to get a 5 out of it. Id have to see the clip again, maybe I'm wrong

Does it matter how often multiple goals are scored on a major or that it is a possibility? The momentum that it can create is huge.

This game happened 5 days ago. I brought it up because it was relevant to a comment about checking from behind. Please let me know the statute of limitations for talking about a past game as I wasn't aware of it.

I think it does matter because that's what happened in the game. If it was a 2, the Gophers to go overtime tied. IMHO way more often I've seen a five minute penalty kill as a bigger momentum changer than major power play goals. I don't like to see them awarded too often unless it kicks out some player I despise or the team scores 2 goals to win the game.

I'm happy to talk about it but I was just suprised to see it because UND wasn't involved in the game and no UND fans are obsessed with the Gophers. :D Sorry, couldn't resist that easy one.

My point was that the "gift"(your words) the Gophers were given handed them an extra point in WCHA standings which can be huge come the end of the year. It's not like I'm nitpicking a tripping minor that happened in the 2nd period of a game in 2004 against Wisconsin so not sure why I should "move past it"(your words again).

I watched the Gophers v UAA game because I'm a college hockey fan. I also watched the Sioux game, Nebraska-Omaha, and many others across the country.

I mean, it's not like I signed up for an account and frequented my opponent's hockey forums, now that would be pathetic. Sorry, couldn't resist that easy one.

Sure it was a gift to get the major because there was an argument for it to go either way. But it's not like the refs handed them goals, just the opportunity. They still had to score them and you have to admit that AA has likely had bigger collapses than that.

Looking at my post count and how long I've been a member, I'm not sure you could say I frequent here. But I'll admit it can be a fun stop during game week. Plus what fun would it be if you had no one to chirp against? But I guess I'll be here a lot less now since they won't be playing soon. *pauses for the cheering at my upcoming extended absence to subside, if anyone really cares that much about little old me*

UAA's whole season is a collapse, which is why giving a team like UAA that disadvantage at that point in the game was ridiculous.

Insert visited in place of frequented, the meaning is still there. I tend to like my chirping in person so I'll be on hand at Mariucci to do plenty of it this weekend.

Of couse because UND has the best traveling fans around.

My public service for the day... I just noticed a small issue with your sig. To be correct, you need to say "More Division I titles than all 5 MN programs combined". Because its pretty easy to argue Bemidji's titles should count if you say it like that. Semantics, sure but you don't want to give any more ammo than necessary to any opposition. :)

Do those other titles matter? ;) Thanks for your interest though.
