schmidtdoggydog
Grant Potulny had some very harsh words for his teammates in today's Fargo Forum. He was quoted as saying: "We've got guys in that locker room who don't have any heart or they are not playing hard, because (1-4) is absolutely ridiculous." He went on to say, "I don't think we are that good. There is nothing that says we are that good. Either we're not that good or we don't have any heart. You can't win games either way." Mad Man
Maybe he was referring to his brother. Ryan let the puck get by him while on the point during a pp twice during the first period. Then to make matters worse let the Sioux player skate around him while he stood and watched. First time I think Parise got a breakaway chance the second Briggs got to the puck before the Sioux player. Good to see Prpich made Vanek a non-factor in the game and hope he can do it again tonight. Fedorov
I asked in another thread, but any word if Ryan got hurt? I watched him head to the locker room in the 3rd period.

Ryan also lost the faceoff and didn't get back on D fast enough on Bochenski's second goal, let him walk right into the crease... I was more impressed with Irmen's play
forecheck
Vanek comes to mind when I read those quotes. I believe it was Zach's first goal (the 2nd of the game) where The Line was busting into the Gopher zone and I watched as Vanek lazily sat back near the Sioux blue line like he was waiting for the Gopher defensemen to take care of business and get the puck to him. I didn't see him backcheck all night long. You have to be a 2-way player, and I didn't see it from him last night.

How about the backcheck in game 2? The kid is an all around player, where Vanek is one dimensional.

Rome is falling... All the talent in the world won't win ya squat unless you play with passion & like a team. Case in point, the Gophers...Maybe their fans should have taken these variables (teamwork & passion) into consideration before bragging about a sure-thing 3-peat... Diggler
I just don't understand how the Gophs can be this bad though. They played much better tonight, but still weren't great. Grant Potulny is a great leader and even he can't get these guys playing like they should. I don't know what the heck the problem is with the Gophers, but they are in big, big trouble. It may be a little bit that they miss Ballard and Harrington, but still they should be able to compensate for that at least a little bit. Fighting Sioux Fan
I will not be surprised when the MN fans use the excuse, "Well if Ballard and Harrington..." Like the sign at the game said, 'Minnesota: Land of 10,000 excuses.'
farce poobah
Tallackson had zero SOG friday and zero SOG Saturday. He was so invisible it hurt. Vanek was -3 Friday and -2 Saturday. His definition of forechecking is to stand in front of the Sioux net and hope a "D" centers the puck to him. A great backcheck by Zach denied him a goal early on in front of a wide open net. Zach didn't score Saturday but he still ended the night +1. Gophers looked tired late both nights. Maybe not in shape? Sioux got better each night as the game went on .. maybe in shape? schmidtdoggydog
Sioux got better each night as the game went on .. maybe in shape? Outscoring opponents 16-3 in the third period thus far is a testament to that statement.
redwing77
I stated previously how I thought some MN folks would say that Ballard and the other due would make all the difference. However, I think that, looking back, it may have only really mattered in the Saturday game. Froday, quite bluntly (looking at the boxscore and first hand accounts), was a Sioux blowout. I don't think either of them could have had a large effect on the game much rather, probably making the loss a lot closer. We swept. The series is over. We got to worry about SCSU. They've beaten everyone so far, including a very tough UMD team. BTW- How do you think UM feels about SCSU sweeping the team that swept them? Very interesting, no? CoteauRinkRat
Anyone see the interview with Potulny's dad on friday night on Fox Sports Net? I bet it is tough for the Potulny parents because I'm sure everywhere they go they catch a lot of grief. They probably are not leaving their house this week. In fairness to the Potulnys, Grant was not recruited by UND so he really did not have a choice. I actually respect Grant for how well he has done with all of the pressure put on him being the first out-of-state recruit for a long time. I also like our freshman, Murray and Stafford, better than Ryan Potulny and Danny Irmen. Time will tell.
