I think your right that about Verhoeff maybe being a detriment in DuPont's eyes but hopefully the staff makes it clear to DuPont he's #1 from the first day. I think we're gonna get him

Swap Liv, Wiebe, Zmolek, and portal departure/pro signee TBD for MacKenzie, Lindberg, Carels, and DuPont.  ;)

Would lose a lot of NCAA experience but gain a crap ton of talent/skill.

If a guy like DuPont goes elsewhere or stays in the Dub for his DY, I would be more than fine with Lin or Rudolph being consolation prize recruiting wins.

Coexist may have been the wrong way to put it. I imagine when DuPont makes his decision, he will ultimately go to a place that gives him the best opportunity to play in every situation. In all honesty, UND is probably the only team that he wouldn't be the top guy from the jump. UND's chances with DuPont varies drastically based on if Verhoeff stays or leaves.

Michigan is fairly loaded at D too..Mania not even playing right now.

I think they can play together. My worry would be who leaves if DuPont comes in. Next season Verhoeff has to QB the top PP (or at least one of them if DuPont would have the other). We have a couple guys who haven’t even touched the pp yet. They could bolt for reps.

On a side note, DuPont fairly human this year. He hasn’t been getting press whatsoever.

Yeah, sometimes you are exchanging a year, maybe two with a bit of a learning curve, especially on the defensive side of things, for possibly Junior and senior experience.  We have seen the difference those years can make with guys like Wiebe and Livanavage.
I think Strathmann’s upside coming in was his offensive ability, and he hasn’t really been able to crack the power play units.  Does he leave for a chance to show his draft team his abilities?   It’s impossible to know the mindset of the guys now, and hopefully they are all in with the program, but when your future is on the line, you ultimately do what’s in your best interest.

Like North Dakota, Michigan will lose a few to graduation and maybe a couple to pro/portal. Duke and Fantilli graduate, Robertson will get pro offers. Only program that Daxon Rudolph follows is Michigan.

I'm interested to see how MacKenzie transitions to the NCAA next year, seems like he'll eventually be a solid high floor two way type.

They definitely could play together. I think it being DuPont’s draft year makes it interesting. He’ll want to join a program that he’ll be able to get those top powerplay minutes/points. We could run a two defensemen top unit or have him on the second unit but I doubt either will be attractive for him.

All things considered, only a few programs really have a shot at these top uncommitted defensemen, UND being one of them. I would be somewhat surprised if UND isn’t able to land a blue chip defenseman for next year. In my opinion, Carels, Rudolph, Lin, etc. seem like a better fit for the player if Verhoeff is still around.

I think the one big thing with DuPont is him waiting to see how playing your draft year in college affects McKenna and Verhoeff's (more specifically probably Verhoeff as a D man) draft stock. These two (along with if there are any others playing college hockey from the CHL currently) I believe will be a case study for others moving forward. If one or both don't put up all that great numbers and they fall a little in the draft I think would have a lasting effect on others thinking of accelerating and leaving the CHL. For all the others that get drafted this summer, it certainly seems like a no brainer to take the jump to a higher level of play.

McKenna didn't accelerate, he's a 2007 and graduated HS in 2025 like all other Canadians. Verhoeff being a 2008 had to accelerate, same as Celebrini, Wood, Toews, Cammalleri did in years past.
