We might have to get in line for next year's tickets after the last playoff game in March. You mean April, right? Congrats on getting the seats you wanted. I have been a die hard fan since I was about 5 years old driving up once a year for a series and I finally got to be a fan cheering in the student section three years ago. I have had season tickets the last two years in a row and now I have no seats to cheer on a team I love. I was not as lucky as others to be able to camp out because of school and other committments. Lucky for me my parents have season tickets and I have a guaranteed seat, but the most disappointing thing for me is I can't sit in the student section any more. It wasn't REA that did this...it was the Athletic Department. I agree in that I wish there were some sort of priority system for people that have had season tickets the past two years, etc... Oh, well...the hockey gods smiled on me and my friends...250th in line for tix(not including those buying seats for friends)...Section 108, Row C, Seats 18-20 (exactly where we wanted) It was being dubbed Hockeyfest '03 at Englestad. Last night was one big party. Even the team came out to show their support and appreciation for the fans lining up so early . 50 1/2 hours after I got there, my tickets were in my hand (well sort of)...well worth it. forecheck Posted September 22, 2003 Share Posted September 22, 2003 Sleeping. I am so hungover today...... Camping out for 3 days was actually kind of fun. The worst part was after being the 25th person in line and picking my seat right away, waiting in line for an HOUR to pay for the damn things. Now you would think that I was used to waiting in line, but when I decided to take a *nap* at 5:30am and was woken up at 7am when they started handing out numbers in line, I was ready to go home and crash. So worth it, though. I was actually impressed with how everything was handled. Everything was organized, almost to the point of being anal. They let 10 people in at a time, but if you had more than 10 people in a group they would just let the group in, assuming they were together in line. I just thought it was funny that they made us get in single file line to be escorted to the student section after signing our contracts. We were all friends and planned on sitting together, so it's not like we were going to kill each other for the seats. Plus, REA officials told the police department that since it was private property, they had no right to be telling the students that they would do random searches for alcohol Thursday night and hand out $101 fines for public intoxication. It was like they WANTED us to party. And party we did. And every morning REA security would come outside with garbage bags and brooms, and hand out free security patches to the select few of us who cleaned up. It's going on my jersey. Fedorov Posted September 22, 2003 Share Posted September 22, 2003 Here are my thoughts on the process. The first problem is that people started camping out on Thursday, so people missed class. I'm sure the student government won't want that to happen again, but people are already planning on going earlier next year. The second problem was that there were no rules. Basically you could set up a tent and as long as one person was there at all times, you could be holding that spot for 20+ students. According to one security guard, people could find friends on Sunday morning and get in line then. It was the students job to enforce the budging. If that happened, there would have been a lot of fights. Of course the Sunday line scramble was helped a lot by giving out tickets at 7 AM, since many people would try to sneak home at night and then come back in the morning. So basically when I started out I was probably around person number 80. When people had everyone over and partied, I was probably around number 400. An unofficial list was made early in the evening on Saturday, so then I was around 300. More people were gone on Sunday morning, so my ticket placed my around 260. Thanks to a few people on this forum, I ended up closer than that and got my desired seats. So basically it was everyone for themselves. I don't know if any fights started over people cutting in line. I agree that things were OK when we first got into REA. Everyone filled out their paperwork. The woman said I was free to pick out my seat, but then the security stopped me like I was crazy for trying to get my seats. So we waited and lined up by numbers again, and then we walked the Green Mile. Each person was given a five second start to pick his/her seat. The payment process was a mess. There were only 3 of the 5 or 6 windows being used. They should have had all the windows open. The printing of tickets seemed to delay the process as well, so it might have been better to mail them out or have people pick them up later. Overall, I would have so say that I am unhappy with the system. I was getting screwed by the system, but I was lucky to take advantage of it in the long run. I got the seats where I sat every game last year, so I don't feel bad for anyone that I got in front of. People that were at tent 10 or back got a bad deal, and people that couldn't wait in line this weekend got a bad deal. REA or the construction company will have a high electricity bill, so they will not like the process either. If the system is mainly unchanged next year, I believe people need to sign up as they get there. Random checks of people in line need to be done with people only being able to miss a select few (due to getting supplies or something). The bathrooms were overflowing on Saturday night, so that needs to be considered as well. The missing of class will probably cause the biggest problem, and I'm sure people who have tickets now will want seniority. Our group got pretty lucky, because we all wanted to sit together and we had around 20 people. Our group started at about 170th people in line, so we got really good seats. Yes, what I did caused me an ethical dilemma and it was unfair to a lot of people, but I see it this way: this is the last year I'll have the ability to attend Sioux games. Probably for the rest of my life. I go to student teach next fall and I graduate in December. Therefore, there will be no next year at Camp Ralph for me. I also had to be in Minot on Friday and Saturday to give a professional talk. So, maybe I didn't deserve the courtesy I recieved, but I got it. Thanks to everyone who let me fulfill my goal of getting season tickets before I graduated. I have been unsuccessful since the new Ralph opened until now. Thanks. Someone told me on the news that they claimed there were 1,000 people that camped out, which isn't rue. I know people who came that morning that had tickets in the 400's, so I am guessing some people got turned away that came in the morning. With the electricity I had (I mean didn't have if anyone comes with a bill) and where I actually ended up in line, I think I played the system better than anyone in line. I'm not paying for their education. Besides, there is no way to enforce it. If people think camping out for hockey tickets is more important than going to class, it's their personal decision. If you can't afford to skip your classes, then either have your friends set up camp or you're SOL. Plenty of people waited until Friday or Saturday to camp out and they all got tickets in the lower bowl. It's the people who waited until Sunday morning who may have not had as much luck. If it is going to be that way next year, you might as well set up a tent two weeks early with a large group of people. All you need is one person there at a time. I find it rather ridiculous that UAA tickets aren't part of the package. I don't really care that many students won't be here, they are season tickets. In fact to me that means you should get all the tickets that "regular" people get. I assumed that wouldn't happen though and we wouldn't get playoff or tournament tickets. But then we don't get UAA tickets? That's stupid. Students could give back the UAA tickets or the Christmas tickets and get a couple bucks off their season tickets. They changed it rather quickly and allowed us to just drop off our slip and let them print them out later and come and pick them up in a week or so. All in all, it was a lot of fun and I wish I had gotten there on Thursday, not only to get my seats sooner, but to party another night as well.
