Pirates give Schneider second chance

Defenseman Andy Schneider knows hockey players don't often get a second chance, and he's trying make the most of such an opportunity with the Portland Pirates.

After sitting out nearly a season and a half because of a broken right wrist, Schneider is trying to make a comeback with the AHL team.

"He's a guy who has been identified," Portland Pirates Coach Kevin Dineen said. "He's a guy we're going to have expectations for, but we want to make sure he's healthy and conditioned to play."

The Portland coaching staff should get a good read on Schneider today or Sunday during preseason exhibitions against the Manchester Monarchs in Portland and Berlin, N.H.

Schneider sat out the rest of that season and all of last year.

"I went back home to North Dakota," he said. "Thankfully, (the Penguins) found some money for me, and I went back and finished up my degree."

Last May, Schneider was awarded a bachelor's degree in mass communications from the University of North Dakota.

Who is that interviewing Matt, Ms. K??

Unfortunately I don't know but based on the microphone logo I'd say she a new member of the Lightning staff or TV crew. I'm guessing we'll find out next Thursday during opening night!

The Lightning made some cuts yesterday and today and Matt remains in Tampa and is playing vs Dallas tonight. Word from the Lightning is they could make 1 more cut at Dman but hopefully Matt's performance vs Detroit showed the coaching staff what he is capable to do now. *crossed fingers*

So unfortunately for JPar, Frank Doyle passed through waivers unclaimed and they will probably split time again this season. Jordan played the second half of Lowell's preseason game against Bridgeport tonight and they won 3-2.

Zach scored the winning goal for the Devils tonight on the 5 x 3 and barely even celebrated. Maybe it's because Travis wasn't on the ice with him. :)

Also Coach Sutter has been using Zach and Travis together as a PK unit. This is the first time Zach has been allowed to kill penalties for the Devils, even though he proved he could do it in college.

From the Lighning web site at

http://lightning.nhl.com/team/app/?service...ge&id=18058

"What do these moves mean? Well, for starters, it means you can assume Matt Smaby, Mike Lundin and Craig MacDonald will be on the Lightning roster when they open the regular season against the New Jersey Devils on Thursday. "

very cool if so!!

Not sure if this was posted yet, just out in the Boston Herald today. http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/hockey/...ticleid=1035223

Very cool story on Bochenski. Sad thing is he's probably going to have to play with the player that I will not refer to on this site. You know, old one nut.

that guy will also be good for BO, they will be solid on a line

Young And Restless:

All signs point to Paille and Stafford getting full-time duty with the Sabres this season.

06/07 Goals Leader: Zach Parise - 31

Nine players finished with double digits in goals, while youngsters Zach Parise (62 points in his sophomore year) and Travis Zajac (42 points in his rookie season) did not look out of place.

According to WDAY (might've been WDAZ), Lee was sent down to improve his shot and his confidence.

Both aspects of his game I thought could use work when he was with the Sioux. His shot is great, for sure, but unrefined. For as great as his shot is, he was very reluctant to shoot the puck. I think, with added confidence, Lee will turn out just fine.

I thought it a long shot for Lee to make the team this year anyways, but it's nice to see he had a good camp and preseason.
